I was pissed at first, but realized rather quickly the movie can be made correctly without being R. I'd have Deadpool have a bit of fun with the censorship, a la Peter Griffin in PTV. Deadpool's a character where a writer can go ultra meta and self-aware with stuff like that. Besides, if they maximize revenue on ticket sales, they can do it again with a solid unrated cut on home release.

Oh, please. Deadpool as a character has much better potential than having to rely on endless gimmicks in the vein of how Daniel Way wrote him (and ended up turning him into a joke).

And considering that Luc Besson's $40 million dollar R-rated action pic Lucy, starring a FEMALE star none the less, has made more than $120 million Statesite, and more than $350 million dollars so far, it's simply a lack of b***s on the studio's side, when everyone on board (including Ryan Reynolds, who was the one pushing for it) was keen on making it R-rated.

You can make a lucrative R-rated action movie. And you can make a lucrative R-rated action-comedy. Lucy. 21 Jump Street. 22 Jump Street. Just to quote a few. Two of them from this year.

Everything else is just bla, bla, bla.

That's a pretty dumb strategy. Why would a movie studio that's building a franchise of films use one of their opportunities to only focus on an insignificant percentage of fans? Makes no sense, especially for a superhero movie.

Besides, this doesn't NEED to be rated R in all honesty and probably wasn't ever going to be no matter what studio made it.

Totally agree, to this date only the Blade movies were R rated comic book adaptions. That was before the major boom of the genre. Secondly I was watching something where a person said I don't remember who. I'll paraphrase " It cost too much for studios to make these movies and have them be R rated. The status who has changed movies are more kids and tv is more for adults."

They can easily replace curses with benign insults,we don't need to see nudity and gore.There is no need for excessive blood
The people governing these things have become little relaxed in their criteria,I mean DoFP had a lot of people getting stabbed,lots of heads and extremities coming off.I don't why they can't have that on a lesser scale in this movie

Fox should hire some guys to make sure they walk a thin line between PG-13 and R-rated without having to delete scenes later

A PG13 rating is not surprising and should be fine.

I thought The Wolverine was noticeably more violent than prior films and it maintained a PG13 release (and a R directors cut; something that could definitely work out for Deadpool too).

I don't need to f-bombs and gratuitous blood; Deadpool can be accurately and respectfully portrayed within the confines of a PG14, no doubt in my mind.

It takes away the visceral quality, and is counterproductive from a narrative/visual standpoint. It's about a mercenary for God's sakes. A mercenary who's got a healing power, which often leads to gory gags about him losing limbs, whatever. A mercenary who uses guns, knives and swords to take out (kill!) his enemies.

Eh,I don't think that's entirely true
If this was a R-rated movie,they would give it an even lesser budget,lesser special effect and action.And do little advertisement since they would know that a huge chunk of the income would be cut-off already

Atleast with a PG-13 rating they will give it a push

A studio's aim is to primarily make money,that doesn't mean that they don't want to make good movies.All I am saying is that,when they are investing something like 120 million in a Deadpool movie(Budget plus advertisement),they need to be sure that it will make money,and an R rating would not help that case

They made a PG-13 Die Hard and it just wasn't the same.

This is probably a good business decision, but it sucks from a creative standpoint.

Expendables 3 was made PG-13 and it BOMBED. Least grossing movie of the entire franchise. They tried to make it more kiddie appropriate.

Wait. Hold up real quick. Deadpool more trendy with the kids?! I want you to walk down your street and ask every kid you see, "Do you know who Deadpool is?" Nah, man. Fox has the opportunity to make this a great film. They have a franchise on their hands. Yeah, it might not make the millions right away. But guess what?! If it is great, you can build a structured fan base and with that loyal fan base, you can make a trilogy of Deadpool and in the long run it will make more money than one PG-13 softened down Deadpool movie.

Also, I meant Kids meaning anyone under 17 who can't buy an R rated ticket. So I guess teens more so, that was my bad. Deadpool is extremely popular with the under 17 crowd. Would I prefer they make it R? **** yeah. But PG -13 can still work and will play to the audience that gives a ****. Plus we can still get a an R on Blu Ray. Fox needs to make a good Deadpool movie regardless.

If its just a "money grab", don't you think they would have released this a long time ago. If a PG-13 Wolverine film in 2013 only earned $134 million in the United States (yeah I know it was made for $120 million and earned $400million+ worldwide), what about a R-18 Deadpool film?

As long as they make a good film that is faithful to the Deadpool comics besides showcasing blood/gory scenes, I think they are good with a PG-13 film.

I don't think the R rating is necessary to the character. The majority of the comics have been PG-13 material; if they get the costume & his personality right, that's all that matters to me.

The most hardcore stuff in the movie should be the testing/torture Weapon X does on Wade anyway. I think they could get away with that with a TDK-style hard PG-13 though.

I think they can get away with Deadpool being tortured, he's a mutant anyway. They got away with mutants being killed and stabbed in DOFP. For me, the only thing I'm concerned is with this Pg-13 rating is they can't show a lot of blood.

Deadpool is not a mutant actually. But they could make him one I guess.

It's pretty brutal in the comics and the script. More so then the X-Men movies. Deadpool himself looks like Freddy Kreuger.

But Yeah, they had Logan rip his heart out so thye can come up with something.
