i just got into breaking bad, finished season 1 last night... it was good but not as good as people make it out to be (though I need to watch the rest of the seasons and have heard it just gets crazy awesome).

I was a newcomer to Breaking Bad this summer. While Breaking Bad season one is good....it just gets better and better and better. That is for sure.

I envy the people who get to experience it for the first time.

Awesome  between catching up with BrB and dexter coming soon, I'll be just fine.

Man, I still don't see what people hate about season 5. I love this season. It was the PERFECT follow up to season 4. They have to bring up Kyle Butler again or something involving Quinn. That's probably been the worst part of the show for me, Quinn's degradation into an idiot. He was a damn good cop them BAM season 6 he's just a moron and forgets all about Dexter.

I think its still dark in it. The Santa Muerta killings were pretty gruesome and the Jordan Chase crew was a great story idea. The 5th episode with Lumen contemplating leaving and then the next with the dude she thinks had something to do with it are the two unnecessary plots for Lumen. We should have been introduced to Jordan Chase sooner and built up more about him and his friends. It would have worked out much better that way. Plus that part with the whole precinct about to find Lumen and Dexter was dumb except for the hilarious Masuka reenactment. No dark humor HMPH!

Well, they give you this feeling at first that Lumen could be coming undone and well, it's interesting but unneeded given how it all works out but things could have gone very differently. I still like it though Johnny Lee Miller I think should be right behind ITK and Trinity. He could have been a more grand threat but subtlety of his introduction and having it at first be only through Boyd listening to his work is just a great way to introduce him with some finesse. I dig it for real, the subtle build up to the reveal of Chase being the big bad should have happened an episode or two sooner but I think the character is good enough that it really lifts up the season as a whole

I agree, I don't get the hate for S5, either. I loved it. S6, on the other hand...

I'm one of the few that actually enjoyed S6, for the most part. Other than the whole Deb falling for Dexter subplot, and Quinn being useless, it was fun. And I loved the reveal.

BLEH. It was weaker than 3. I love every season though. Deb shoulda found put at the end of 5 for real

I hate hate HATE HATE!!! the writers for destroying Quinn! It drives me crazy! There is no resolution at all for LITERALLY ALL of his character's development through season 5. NONE OF IT AT ALL means a thing as of the start of season 6. Which is inexplicable given that they remembered Jonah. I hope they bring back Lumen at some point, the way Dexter had to go to Nebraska to help/kill Jonah was done very well but why did they just drop ALL of Quinn's suspicions!?!? I can't ****ing believe they would bring back up BHB, ITK, Trinity and not bring up Lumen, Liddy or Quinn knowing Dexter killed him. I gotta shut up now or I'm gonna keep rambling

The writers of this show have lost their way.
It's almost 1-2 seasons too long. They're just repeating everything now, Dexter doesn't seem "cool" to me anymore, and they've sacrificed some really neat developments for nothing.
A little hard to watch a monster when they're doing it so much better on Breaking Bad. Hell, we have no idea if this is supposed to be the rise or fall of Dexter.

Season 5 was "let's make this as horribly awkward and unrealistic as possible".

Everybody's reactions surrounding Rita's death were so forced and painful to watch, like Deb and Quinn screwing and then Quinn using Rita's old robe/sheet to cover himself up. WTF?

The worst part was Dexter breaking the news to Rita's parents and the kids. The writers tried shoving it down our throats that Rita was Dexter's "link" to humanity or something and that when she died, Dexter was lost. I say b.s. We've seen Dexter evolve. Losing Rita might have driven him into rage or a downward spiral, but he wouldn't forget how to simply communicate.

"I'm sorry for your loss." The most socially awkward, unskilled person would be able to explain Rita's death better than that.

I also hated the line from Deb when she saw Dexter with Lumen. Something like, "Geez Dexter, already hitting new tail?" or similar. Again, something that Deb would never say out of respect for Rita, among other reasons.

Basically, the aftermath of Rita's death was completely mishandled. Characters didn't behave the way you'd expect, and in an episode or two they were cracking jokes like the one Deb made. It took me out of the show because it was so forced, unrealistic, and simply out of place.

question... do people 'hate' season 5 by Dexter quality standards, or just hate it period.

For me, I don't hate it... but I think it is poor in comparison to the rest of the season (same goes for 6 in many ways), however I think both 5 and 6 are better than most shows on tv.

I really think season 6 is the weakest.

I agree about some points in season 5 but you're overstating the problems. I think everybody behaved pretty damn close to expected. 6 was waaay weaker than 3. 6 was the first time I started feeling like it was a chore to watch week to week

Season 5, I don't really hate but I find it just so damn average and am completely indifferent to it. I find it relatively pointless in the grand scheme of the show. I would say its an average season of Dexter and an average season of TV. There's far better out there.

Season 6, on the other hand, I actively hate... period. I didn't think it was better than most shows on TV. I thought it was horrendous.

Season 5 has a poor beginning and end, but most episodes were enjoyable. It's just that the season ended essentially where it began, with little to no character development. Overall still good tv, but weak by earlier Dexter standards.

Season 6 was extremely sloppy and almost laughably bad at points. "Hello ****e." Yikes.
