rita has gotten on my nerves this whole 4th season..i liked her the first 3 and defended her when noone else liked her but this season she's on my nerves..

Rita treats Dexter like a little ****ing kid.

Maby once the story is released from the hot ass reporter about the murdered victims being connected, Trinity might go after her ass

this past episode was great. I love how Dexter is sick of the family/community life and wants to go back being the "lone wolf". Also, it's cool that Lundy sees himself that way too. The scene with Rita singing in the car and Dexter looking helpless was the funniest thing I've seen in a while. That small cliffhanger at the end was okay. I think Rita will eventually learn Dexter's secret. How she reacts...I don't know. I also enjoy seeing the relationship between Dexter and Cody and Astor. Quinn could be the new Doakes for this season. Though he's only angry because he got caught. Otherwise, he wouldn't think twice about Dexter...

Final Episode should go like this:

Rita finally catches Dexter in the act and says "Thank god, I hack up people too".

They then get the kids, and have one big family hack up with the theme music playing in the background, and daddy dark passenger looking on lovingly.

/End of show.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Dexter had to kill her in order to keep his secret?

I've always felt that Dexter isn't TRULY in love with Rita; he just uses her in a way to make himself feel, and have some sense of normality. I think if it came down to him picking between his life with Rita, or 'The code', he'd pick The Code because the dark-side Dexter is the real Dexter. The family guy is merely his disguise. Harry has been pushing him to get rid of the family lifestyle, i see him ultimately doing just that. He killed his own damn Brother after all; i could see him killing Rita if it came down to it.

i agree but i also thought who would take care of the kids after Rita is gone? Would Dex get a babysitter lol

If he killed Rita, the whole "anti hero" of Dexter would be forever lost and he would no longer be a likable main character that murders "bad people".

I hope we never see Dexter kills Rita. No matter how much she might be annoying on screen.

He doesn't use her to make himself feel anything, he uses the whole family man image for the sake of appearing normal to others. Or at least those were his original intentions. Dexter and Rita's relationship has progressed a lot. Think back to season 1 and it's been a looong time since she was his platonic sexually abused girlfriend. And now they have a baby together. :awesome:

I loved seeing the community meetings this episode even though I'd rather see him stalking some sick f**k. Watching Dex interact with everyone is hilarious, he's like 5 seconds slow to catch on to everything. :woot: As for Harry, he isn't necessarily pushing Dex to leave the family lifestyle, he was just reminding him to not get so lost in it because one can only fake so much. Despite all that though, he'd never have Rita find out, nevermind having to kill her. It would probably be a storyline that starts out with her thinking he's having an affair though. :o

I think Harry represents Dexter's Dark Passenger. While Rita represents his human side.

I think show is all about which one he will ultimately choose. The difference between all the people he has killed & Trinty. Is they fully embraced there dark side. Dexter is still fighting both sides. At some point he is going to have to choose which way to go.

Hahaha, no, Dexter killing Rita in order to keep his secret would not be awesome. It's not his code and he'd no longer be walking the line between good and evil, which is what makes him interesting.

And yeah, he killed his own blood brother, a person who understood his dark side, but he did so to save Deb, a person who he doesn't know how she would react to learning his secret.

Harry IS pushing Dexter to leave the family life alone for 'The code'. He's letting him know the two cannot co-exist. He let him know this when he fell asleep behind the wheel, and also made mention that the reason why Trinity was so successful was because he probably doesn't have a family. Rita being killed by Dex is a tad extreme, but the look he gave her at the end of the last episode was not the loving Dexter look he shows her, it was the dark-side dexter; he seems to be able to switch it on and off like a light switch, but at that moment, after doing what he had done to the neighbor, dark-side Dexter was still pretty much still in the building.

What if Rita found out, and decided that she couldn't deal with yet another bad relationship and was gonna turn Dex in; do you guys think he'd go in quietly? I know there would be some conflict in him, and i know what Harry would say, but what do you think he would do...?

Anyhow, i think the writers are having Dexter keep his apt for a reason. They could have cleverly had him hid his blood slides and tools at his current house. Either something happens to Rita and the kids, or they end up being seperated and he has to move out....

Well...Father Knows Best... :hehe:

Seriously, as grating as Rita can be to me, it would come off as abit strong if Dex off'ed her because she discovers his secret. I don't even want to imagine how she would react if she found out that her ex was one of his victims.

Dexter would NEVER kill Rita. Deep down, the guy has some feelings as much as he doesn't want to admit. He didn't kill Deb back in season 1 afterall. I think Dexter is more human than he thinks. Harry told him that he was different his whole life, of course Dexter would buy into that. And yes, I think the visions of Harry represent his Dark Passenger, not the actual Harry. I think if Harry was alive and saw Dexter had some feelings then he would encourage him to embrace them, not run away from it. Sure, Dexter is screwed up in the head but I don't think he's as screwed up as he actually thinks he is.

On a different note, I bought Darkly Dreaming Dexter today. Can't wait to read it!

So is any one else thinking Trinity's planned final victim is going to be Dexter? We know his third victim is male, after all.

Agreed. Dexter WANTS to believe he is a monster, but the fact is, Harry did something right and salvaged some part of his humanity. It may not be normal love, but Dexter clearly feels something for Rita, Deb, and the kids.

I was actually really disappointed by the books. I've only read the first two and couldn't go on. Lindsay is a good idea man, but his writing style leaves a lot to be desired. He will spend 3/4s of the book repeating himself over and over in slightly different ways then because there has been such little progression due to the repitition he is forced to advance the story by having plot points jump from A to B with little to no build up or logic.

On top of that, no character but Dexter is really developed in the books and that is unfortunate as Dexter of the books is a weak protagonist. There is no way to relate to him as unlike on the show where he claims to be a monster but retains some humanity to make him relatable, book Dexter is truly the monster he claims to be. He speaks of characters like Deb and Rita with what seems to be disdain. He is strictly driven by his urge to kill (and eat in the second book). It makes him very difficult to relate to and that's fine if you have a strong supporting cast, but you don't. Lindsay does not allow any of the other characters to shine.

My biggest problem though, is Lindsay has no falling action. After the climax he tries to resolve hanging plot lines with a couple throw away sentences and as a result it fails entirely.

Its ashame, because in a better author's hands these books can be great but Lindsay is just such a weak author, IMO.

I was thinking Lundy. He obviously had a problem with his father, and now he's got this guy who's been doggedly pursuing him for 30 years. Oppressing him, in some ways. Sort of like an overbearing parent, basically.

I think Lundy is going to be a Trinity victim but more of collateral damage. After all, does Trinity even know that Lundy is after him? I think he'll kill him to avoid being captured but not for the sake of his victim. After all, Trinity seems to warm up to his victim, to get to know them, right? We've seen scenes of him meeting Dexter in the church and seeming to befriend him. I think Dexter will be his planned victim.

that's a great review of the books, Matt. I'll consider it when I read the first book. I hear the third book gets really crazy though and drifts away from the first two.

I also agree that Dexter will be the likely planned victim of Trinity Killer and Lundy might end up being caught in the middle. Trinity killer is definitely better than The Skinner from last season.

Skinner has to be the weakest antagonist of the series by far seeing that he was overshadowed by Miguel.

Could there have been a weaker conclusion to the season as Skinner was? I got no sense of dread from him at all.

He was really weak looking. He only got his victims by the element of surprise, otherwise he would get beat up.

After all, does Trinity even know that Lundy is after him?

He probably will, after reporter girl runs a story with that bit of info Quinn dropped while running his mouth in bed...

maby Trinity will go after Quinn, since he's with the reporter chick

I want to know if they're going anywhere with Deb investigating her dad's past? They seem to have side tracked it as of late, in favor of the 'nail on a chalk board' banter between her and Lundy's feelings.
