Dexter

I've noticed a lot of people on this thread want Dexter to start training Astor and Cody to be Dark Avengers like he is. I don't know if it will happen on the show, but it does happen in the books. Somewhere in Book #2, Dexter discovers Astor and Cody have their own Dark Passengers and they find out about Dexter's Extracurricular Activities. And Dex agrees to teach them the way Harry taught him. I don't know exactly how this came about because I accidentally bought Book #3 and started reading it first (woops). Anyway, Astor and Cody seem to be far more f**ked up in the books than they are on the TV show, so I don't know if they have any plans to go that route. Just thought I'd mention it.

The show has already gone a different direction than the books, so I doubt if they would go that direction.

they might go that direction with the baby. Instead of picking up a pacifier, he picks up a knife! lol

I agree. But many people on this thread were calling for it, so I thought I'd mention it. Besides, they might run out of ideas for upcoming seasons and fall back on the books for future inspiration. I doubt they'll do it exactly like the books either. Likely they'll make Astor the blossoming killer, as they've already established that Cody is quite well adjusted after the trauma of his father's abuse. Astor's older and better remembers the trauma inflicted by their father.

I've read two of the books and am personally relieved that they drifted away from much of it. For one thing, the Dexter character of the books is a very weak protagonist. Dexter of the show retains some semblence of humanity. Suggests that their may be some man left in Dexter. Book Dexter lacks that and makes it impossible to relate to him as he is essentially a hollow shell. He IS the monster he so often claims to be (as opposed to the one he tries to rationalize himself as in the book). On top of that, Lindsay's writing style is very weak. Plots jump from point A to point B with little build up or logic and there is no falling action after the climax.

As for Astor and Cody, yeah, they are clearly entirely different in the show than in the book and I hope it stays that way.

The one thing of the book I would like to see carry over is Dr. Danko or at least something similiar. Obviously the plot would need tweaking but I'm sure the writers can improve on him as they did Dexter, Rita, Doakes, LaGuerta, and Angel.

That's funny. They'd have to do a time jump and recast Cody, Astor, and Baby Harry to do that though (I have a feeling they'll name the baby Harry, it's the kind of sappy, sentimental thing Dexter would do in order to appear "normal"). But then we've got the whole "Nature vs Nurture" debate happening (does being the son of a sociopath automatically mean that he'll be a sociopath too? Or does there have to be mitigating circumstances, a childhood trauma to trigger it?)

I read a news article on buddytv from the LA Times. That reveals Dexters babys name is going to be Harrison. Which is cool naming the baby after harry.

I have a feeling that the Trinity Killer aka walter simmons is going to be dexters neighbor due to the casting sides I read and the fact that spoiler guru Michael Ausiello said we will be meeting more of dexters neigbors . Also in the press release when they revealed the new big bad will living a duel life as a suburbanite. But thats just my theroy tell me what you guys think.

so have they moved to their new home already? I know last season Rita wanted to start looking at houses which made Dexter uncomfortable...

I'm Only Part way into the first season and i'm addicted! Dexter FTW

Just spoke with Blockbuster Video. Dexter Season 3 is due to come out August 18. I guess the guy from Tom's Video was mistaken. Another month and a half to wait.

I made this today. Pretty happy with most of the coloring but the arms just don't seem right. That possition is hard to draw.

What makes Dexter kill people?

In the books it is something called the Dark Passenger. A few people have these and it is kind of like an inner voice that takes control and thats what makes him really good at what he does. Plus the Dark Passengers can sense one another for example Cody has one (in the book) and he can see Dexter has a 'shadow' around him. Which is the Passenger.
The Passenger's are some godly offspring or something from Moloch.

In the tv show the Dark Passenger has only been mentioned once or twice. So really we don't know whether the Dark Passenger is part of the show yet (and has to be explained) or whether the show is just going down the road of traumatic (to say the least) childhood making him c-c-c-crazy.

Sometimes i have (what i like to call) Dexter tendencies. ahem... lets hope nothing ever comes to fruition with them lol. :oldrazz:

the dark passenger as moloch should be ignored...horrible book (3)

the dark passenger in books 1 and 2 and in the tv show is just dexters "animal instinct' type thing

That's what I take from it.

The Dark Passenger is just a metaphor and what Dexter calls his drive to kill.

yea the whole moloch thing made me want to kill jeff lindsey for ruining a good book series

I agree with this sentiment. The Dark Passenger is Dexter's natural killer instinct. Contrary to anything PETA might tell you, we are predators and thus we all have a killer instinct. Most of us don't develope ours. If we're hungry we don't grab a spear and kill ourselves a wild boar, we just run to the nearest Safeway and buy ourselves a stack of pork chops. It's like a muscle, if you don't exercise it it becomes flabby and weak. Soldiers, sport hunters, police officers all exercise theirs. In Dexter's case, his killer instinct takes over completely from time to time. Most serial killers wait for this to happen before they choose their victims. Dexter has learned to choose his victims first. At least, that's my take on it.

im with you... harry found dexter in time, before the 'see-saw' went one way or the other. so he guided it, aimed it...kinda like the incredible hulk with ed norton, he cant control it, but he can aim it.

i wouldnt mind seeing a show on like discovery channel, kinda like how when TDK was coming out they did that psychological look into bruce wayne...id love seeing that on a character such as dexter.
