Even though I enjoyed the movie and rated it an 8/10 nothing got me too excited because I felt like I have already seen the movie before from Tv Spots and Trailers and the response might have been mixed due to the fact they built it up too much and people's expectations was too high and people may have walked out the cinema feeling disappointed because they were expecting too see the best Spider-Man movie ever

For The Amazing Spider-Man 3 they should only have 3 trailers
One 30 seconds teaser and two 2 minute trailers and certain scenes shouldn't be shown in these trailers like the scene with Doctor Octopus arms and The Vulture wings should have been a surprise for the movie

I can agree with that somewhat. It was unfortunate that almost every money shot was in the trailers, and no action scene at all was kept secret. I don't think the amount of trailers they showed was the problem, that's just the way it is, but what they chose to show. The first extended trailer after the Superbowl had basically condensed the whole film into 3 minutes, not that it wasn't cool to see at the time, it definitely got me excited for the movie. In that respect it did it's job.

I think the movie would have been viewed better if nobody knew about Rhino, Goblin or where Gwen's death would have occured. Should have only had one trailer, one teaser and a few TV spots, which were just shorter versions of the trailer. Actual posters should have just had electro on it.

Also, SHOULD NOT have mentioned sinister six film before the movie came out, imagine all the references to it and how cool they would have been if we didn't know about these new fiilms?

Imagine us knowing none of that? If they didn't market Gwen's death so much, it might have been more of a suprise, and given how powerful it was when we knew it was coming, I can only imagine it as a suprise! (My Mum didn't expect it, she won't go to movies I suggest for a while now)

I watched all the trailers and a couple clips and it didn't ruin the experience, as I can disconnect myself from the footage I have seen. doing that I can watch the movie as a whole feeling like I'm seeing every part for the first time

still, the amount of footage they showed is not really excusable. they should just do two trailers and then do tv spots from the trailer footage we have already seen, problem solved. they get more than decent marketing and the movie hasn't been half spoiled

Agreed. I think Marc wanted to keep much of that a surprise, especially the Harry/Goblin bit and of course, Gwen's demise. But leave it to the good ol' marketing dept at Sony to F that to all hell.

I used my wife as a reference point for many of those aspects of the movie. She was essentially 100% unaware of everything including the death of Gwen. She was literally on the edge of her seat. It was great to see her reaction.

Prior to the film I only watched the trailers, SB spots, and the enemies unite reel and I kinda felt like I saw too much just from those. I totally avoided the featurettes that were released before the movie came out but I just recently went back and watched all of them. And, damn. They pretty much had the entire movie laid out for you. I can't believe how much footage they put into those. I'm so glad I avoided them. lol. I was almost facepalming while watching those featurettes.

Next movie, I'll watch the first and last trailer and that's it.

I can add my mother to that list. She had no idea, she literally thought Gwen was so good at helping Pete she'd become a crimefighter too! She was devestated, audibly bawling. She was happy I didn't tell her though.

I watched EVERYTHING, every little bit of footage.

Next film I'm going cold turkey, no trailers for me! The only things I'll see are perhaps the GIFS in people's avatars, and the popups on youtube :)

Me too :highfive:

I'm being serious if you take clips from the trailers and Tv Spots and put them together you would have a 5 minute mini version of the movie we even seen the final shot of the film in the trailers

Oh man I feel you on that lol I watched those after I saw the movie too and my goodness.

People seem to think having multiple villians means a movie wont be any good The Dark Knight had 3 Villains
Scarecrow(for about 3 minutes)
The Joker
Two Face
And many consider it one of the greatest superhero movies if you have a great script backing you you can have multiple villians

They should have held back on the amount of footage shown, but given I enjoy the final product, it didn't 'ruin' the movie for me.

Two-Face and Scarecrow were side villains. Joker was the main.

Who's the main in TASM2? Electro? Well that makes the film wkrse. You just made Spider-Man's arch ****ing enemy a side villain.

Also all the villains in TASM2 ****ing sucked.

Nope. This movie ruined this movie.

Agreed. I only saw the first trailer once and never followed production and I still managed to be tremendously disappointed in TASM2.

Sony has never demonstrated the slightest ability to handle multiple villains in its Spider-Man movies. I shudder to think what Sinister Six could turn out to be like.

I think most trailers are like that anymore. Instead of trailer lasting maybe a minute, they all run about 2-3 minutes and give you half of the film's plot points. But,of course,we always want to see more. I remember the first trailer for Godzilla and being disapponted that they didn't really show much. lol So,damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Jesus Christ The Green Goblin is certainly to return in future movies and have a bigger role it's not like they killed him off and i had no problem with Electro being the main villian cause I want to see different villians every Spider-Man movie

So much self control!

We'll have to start a cold turkey thread in 2016 to comfort each other during the tough times of avoiding the trailers :)

I got burnt with the trailers of ASM and so have avoided pretty much all super hero trailers since and my enjoyment of the movie is so much greater as all the great things I see I see for the first time.

I won't be able to resist watching the Avengers trailers next year, hype will be way too high

Sony have no originally sadly they try and take what makes other franchises work and use it for spider-man

I would have been pleasantly surprised if the trailers only showed electro. Rhino and Goblin might have felt more impressive.

So yes...the trailers ruined the movie for me... (basically all of rhino's scenes were shown in the trailer...)

I had the awesome pleasure of seeing this film (for the fourth time myself XD) with a friend who's such a spoilerphobe he'd not so much as seen a trailer on Friday. All he knew was that Electro was in it.

His reaction was awesome, because things that IMO should have been twists, like the Goblin, or brilliant bits of surprise fan service, like Rhino, remained so for him.

Still love this film immensely but I'd have loved to have seen it for the first time without the trailers ruining the above surprises and basically ruining the climax.
