🇺🇸 Discussion: General Election 2024, 🥥 VS 🍊

The only solace I can take on the 3rd term thing is he is almost 80 as of now, so he'd be what 82 by then? So hopefully even if the spirit is willing, he cannot physically do it

We can all hope he doesn't inherit Trump's popularity
Unless Trump resigns now, Vance becomes president, and then implements Project 2025 to remove detractors and stack the SC so he can be president indefinitely

Trump won't resign now

Where was the Progressive left? Or do we speak in American terms here where the Progressive left is what for Europe the right center is?

Because the Progressive left would have meant to me a stronger support for Trans people, stopping the Money to israel etc.

I would happily take a European Centrist as a candidate right now.

Trump won't resign now
No not now, but he will not make it all four years, he isnt physically capable to run the country for however long he is in power, then Vance will take over and he is far worse.

Can't see a lot of Republicans being happy with that. They will all want to duke it out in 2028 to be the post-Trump candidate. They aren't going to bend the knee for Vance.

He will try. Trust me, only thing that will prevent him from attempting to serve out the term is death. If he is alive, he isn't resigning. His ego is too high

I mean...a Chef's kiss would be that Republicans try to remove Trump, he goes out swinging and it starts a Civil War in the Republican party lol

So, all i have read and seen since Kamala entered the race was massive democratic enthusiasm unseen since Obama, so, where did it go? She had massive crowds, polls showed her leading from the moment she entered, what happened, all i heard was a wave of angry women would keep Trump out, nothing like that happened at all.

I work in care, right

The amount of clients I've had, who are either bordering on their 90s or are 90+, who might as well have rap sheets titled "Reasons I Should Be Dead" that go on about as long as the average thesis would make your head spin

Trump making it to 2026 is 100% a pretty realistic possibility, I'd argue the most likely to be honest

Like I said in above post, he won't resign regardless how bad his health gets. Only death would get him out at this point. His ego won't let him step down
It seemed like he didn’t care anymore about the election in the last month or so. He didn’t put in any effort. Maybe winning will invigorate him, or maybe he wants his pardon and then ****s off to the golf course again.

Trump 100% cares about winning. Make no mistake about this. If there is one trait Trump has in spades, it's determination/ego. His ego rules him above all. He will not go quietly anywhere into the night of his own accord.

A lot of those folks didn't turn out because of Biden and Harris being complicit on Gaza. Biden winning Michigan last time around was made possible by 200,000 Arab and Muslim Americans in Detroit. A lot of them stayed home or voted for Trump in protest.

I genuinely think Harris would have done better if she pivoted to the left. Even better would have been a candidate who could have distanced themself from the Biden admin while pushing progressive economy policy. You can see how Harris' support in the polls started to crumble in August as soon as she started to pivot to the centre and define herself as a continuation of Biden's administration. When people started to realize she was more of the same, she lost a lot of support.

I hate to say it, but if Dems want to win and making lasting change, social issues need to take a back burner on their platform for a long time to come. FDR had it right in the 30s when he focused on universal economy policy and combatting economic inequality instead of civil rights. He got a lot of criticism from activists at the time, but he believed that it would divide his party and coalition. However, the lasting changes he made to the economy and social safety net set up the long-term prosperity and security that allowed big civil rights changes in the 1950s and 60s.

The exit polls really make me think of Germany in 1933. People didn't like Hitler, he was a laughing stock Bohemian corporal to most, but people thought his grand promises would fix the economy and change the status quo.
