🇺🇸 Discussion: General Election 2024, 🥥 VS 🍊

US News
What better way to cheat than gas light Democrats for 4 years with cheating allegations first?

It's ingenious.

Heh I put in my early vote early last week was on a Disney cruise since Tuesday and yeahhhh. Had no access to internet but was able to find out via ABC on the ship on Wednesday morning who won. Really put a damper on my trip (which I was aware may be the case) and yeah man.

It's times like these I wish this election happened when I was single so it would be easier to ignore these next (hopefully only) 4 years. It's a lot more upsetting when I got kids and we got a guy who will idiotically put someone like Betsy DeVos in charge of Education. And maybe he'll put someone in even more incompetent in the role that will now directly affect my kids' education.
Trump is eliminating the department of education completely, also eliminating FEMA and another agency, he promised to appoint Robert Kennedy Jr in charge of the department of health, you know the anti-vaxer and guy who had worms eat is brain, and then but Elon Musk in charge of the things he cares about and slash $2 trillion from the budget, it will not be defense or things that benefit the rich, and give massive tax breaks to the rich while implamenting tarriffs on virtually everything, so fasten your seat belt things are about to get rough, trump also said yesterday there is no number high enough he wouldnt spend to deport hundreds of thousands, you know people who do the jobs no one else will do and pay more in taxes than any billionaire, which means high prices

Trump won the last undecideds that made up 7% of all 2024 voters according to the exit poll. His late stunts seemed to have worked. He also won people that voted third party/indy candidate in 2020 and did not vote in 2020 voters.

Trump won the popular vote with about the same amount of Repulibcans showing up, wasn't a huge wave or jump.

Harris had much less Democrats come out and vote.

I'm sorry but the Dems sitting home are to blame.

We should consider these people not voting aren't necessarily Democrats. They are just people who aligned with Democrats in 2020. However, they prefer to not vote for anyone this time. That means they feel alienated by Democrats in some way.

I doubt Democrats not being too left is the reason this people feel alienated. After all, if they care about the government not being too left, they would still vote for Kamala (since Trump is a terrible threat).

PS: People not voting for any side are people who don't care but also don't fear any side.

Like i said, democrats have themselves to blame for whats coming, i dont want to hear complaining about peoples rights being taken away, they had their chance to stop it and didnt

Exit polls - Youth electorate share (+margin lead)
2024:
age 18-29 (14% share) (D+11)
2020: age 18-29 (17%) (D+24)
2016: age 18-29 (19%) (D+19)
2012: age 19-29 (19%) (D+23)

So the Harvard poll and other turnout estimations were way way wrong about youth turnout and the margin.

So are we going to blame everything on racism and sexism?
Don’t forget stupidity. That’s a big one!
Harris basically copied and pasted Hillary Clinton's failed 2016 campaign (except even worse, Hillary actually won the popular vote). How is that a "fantastic job"?

Yes, she was in a tough position. But she made it even harder on herself. This is one example.
I’m having second thoughts about the criticism of Hil. She was a terrible candidate and the Dems never should have handed her the nom. But running a center right campaign in a center-right nation makes an awful lot of sense. It’s frustrating that we look at these small campaign mishaps and pick the gals apart when Donald can talk about quadruped eating immigrants and ******e a microphone and come out in clover.
Clearly, "at least I am not Trump" was not enough of a campaign to run on, and that is all Harris seemed to have to offer. How is that a "fantastic job"?

Fantastic may have been an overreach. Solid, maybe even strong? It should have been enough. But ‘Merica loves Trump, and until the law is changed so that only black women are allowed to vote - a law I strongly endorse - we’re going to get more like him.

Harris ran ~8 points ahead of President Biden's approval rating while Clinton ran 5 points behind President Obama's in 2016. That's about a 13 point difference between the two in comparison. It just wasn't enough with Democrats with a six and five point drop in the electorate share from 2020 and 2016.

"At least I'm not Trump" is what Biden ran on and it worked

Yes, this time it was from Trump, the economy sucks because of Biden, and Trans men in girls locker rooms and boom, we elected our first dictator.

IDK if people truly understand just how bad it could get for everyone, no matter who they voted for, this group of Maga republicans are extemists with views we have never seen in positions of power in this country, we will be seeing more religious laws passed especially evangelical christrians view of the bible

The interesting, but generally unsaid, part of this is that Bush inherited a booming economy from Clinton, crashed it, Obama inherited his mess, the economy recovered, Trump inherited a very good economy, crashed it because of how COVID was handled (it would have been a problem anyway), Biden inherited a terrible economy from Trump, was really turning around, and now it's being handed over to Trump.....and we'll see......

And Republicans are better for the economy than are Democrats.......

And we know a large chunk of inflation was artificially boosted by corporations.

Were they intentionally helping the far right, greedy or both?

It's more about identity and vibes than people think.
Exactly right AND the Republican Party has shown they want to keep people in ignorance. Groom bigots so to speak....

The irony, absurdity, and sad part of it is that there are people out there who are being discriminated against who side with those who could care less about them.

We can talk all about the coulda shoulda wouldas regarding the campaign. But it is nearly impossible to fight this degree of willful ignorance. Fighting back against far right propaganda online and on TV should be job one if it isn’t already too late.
