🇺🇸 Discussion: Guns, The Second Amendment, NRA - Part II

US News
Abbott tweeted that the gunman failed the background checks in place and he obtained the gun illegally.

That will always be the argument, people can get them illegally so why make harsher laws? But then that's the strawman for anything illegal.

Well, if they know science they can make their own guns. It's in the New Testament.

Hell any state where guns are a thing.

"But mah right to intimidate and act like a total ******* in a store full of people!"

There is no good reason to bring a gun into Walmart unless you are a cop who is there to shoot some idiot with his gun because everyone thinks he's going to shoot up the place.

Watch what happens in open carry states. With Walmart's new policies, I can guarantee you the gun nuts and the NRA are going to try to push legislation that they can't ban open-carriers from their stores because "muh 2nd ammendment rights".

Well, the gun nuts. The NRA is kind of lacking funds. They have to relay on phone calls to the president, who is notorious for going with the last person they said.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Dan Crenshaw clash over whether people should lend guns to friends

Why does Crenshaw look like a Bond villain? Yes I understand he lost it on duty, but that picture by CNN makes it seem that way.

I do not care about this controversy. Two politicians harping at each other over tweets becomes the story instead of the ACTUAL gun violence.

I really hate when people use rare instances of people using guns to defend themselves as some sort of justification for America's obsession with firearms.
It happened one time in one hundred instances. Of course they are going to cling to it.

Why are they so defensive and afraid of the truth? Lol.

Something that happens every day isn't rare.

An otherwise defenseless woman used a tool to bridge the gap in strength disparity between her and the man/men attacking her. I figured you would of all people would like this story.

How Often Do People Use Guns In Self-Defense?

It's rarer by a lot than the inchoate types that fall under the Pro-Gun side would have anyone believe and the idea that on the streets and town of the USA that people all over are either flashing heat or firing weapons constantly in self defense is frankly, a moronic assertion.

Does it happen? Yeah. Not in either the numbers or frequency some would have you think.

Waiting for the inevitable counter that has to include a some how vast yet secretive conspiracy to hide the apparent Punisher wet dream that is happening all over nation.

What does this have to do with being able to get a gun legally, by passing a background check? Crenshaw was talking about giving guns to his friends without any supervision. Why should that be legal? If you can't own a gun legally, if you can't pass a background check, why should someone just be allowed to give you one? And if the answer is, "well they didn't have time to get one", they sure as hell didn't care enough to get a gun in the first place.

I feel like this pretty much summed it all up:

"In fact, Cook told The Washington Post that the percentage of people who told Kleck they used a gun in self-defense is similar to the percentage of Americans who said they were abducted by aliens. The Post notes that "a more reasonable estimate" of self-defense gun uses equals about 100,000 annually, according to the NCVS data."

"Even if someone wanted to use a gun in self-defense, they probably wouldn't be very successful, says Mike Weisser, firearms instructor and author of the blog "Mike The Gun Guy." He says many people who carry a gun aren't properly trained to use it in this way, and there is no performance validation standard for police officers.

"If we don't even have a minimum standard, not for training, but for performance validation for our law enforcement," he says, "how in God's name is anybody going to say, 'Well, just because you have a gun in your pocket, you know how to use it in self-defense?' You don't.""

What the ****? If the checks are fine that are in place...shouldnt those friends be able to get guns on their own? How ****ing messed up is it to "lend a gun" to somebody...its not a pan or a hammer...its a ****ing gun.

As for the whole "guns for self defense" thing...kind of funny argumentation if you ask me.
On one hand people go "oh here is this one tightly contained" instance where self defense/good guy with gun works...then if you bring up the literally daily encounters where people get shot and killed, the argument is that despite the numbers its just a small number compared to how many peacefull people have guns.

Im sorry but what now? One encounter where having a gun at hand was good means something...but 1000 a year that show why its ****ed up are just collateral damage?
