I'm pro 2nd amendment. Responsibly own several different types of firearms for hunting, sport/hobby as well as competition and self defense.
Even I as a pro 2nd amendment individual raise an eyebrow to the open or even conceal carry of a firearm for untrained individuals. I mean that may seem silly since I'm pro 2nd amendment right....? but its true.
I feel it is everyone's right to own a firearm or firearms (yes singular or plural). But feel when you are looking to carry one in public it should come with a more specific set of rules.
Again, even though I'm licensed to carry, and own firearms and pro 2nd amendment I cannot tell you how many people I have seen at ranges or even carrying a firearm and think to myself wow they are being unsafe or wow they probably shouldn't be doing that.
At least if you go for CWP training and testing you are subjected to safety training, handling and cannot pass it without a shooting test which will prove capable and safe handling.
My state just recently passed an open carry option for people that have already obtained their Concealed carry permit or for those that plan to get their permit. That is the only way you can open carry here unless you are hunting or fishing. For me personally, I see very little and few instances where I would ever actually open carry. I'll stay concealed for likely 99% of the time. That way I don't draw any unnecessary attention to myself. But there are also some areas that I if I found myself in, open carry may be a more viable option, but again extremely rare instances.
