Discussion: Racism - Part 1

A perfect example of liberal identity politics gone completely off the rails.

I saw Solange Knowles tweet and then a subsequent Op-Ed about "white spaces" in CNN regarding Solange Knowles' tweet. Solange basically cried racism because she was yelled at to sit down while dancing at a Kraftwerk concert...

Kraftwerk(who I am a fan of and have seen live in the past) while an electronic band that started in the late 1960's suffice it to say most of their audience is going to be rather old. It reminds me of the time I saw Roger Waters and was promptly yelled at to sit down during the concert by a bunch of crotchety old people that don't want to stand. It has nothing to do with race, it has everything with them wanting to not stand up even though it's a freaking concert and not one that is in a theater. If she's going to cite the Kraftwerk concert as a reason why black people don't feel safe in "white spaces" then well...she's delusional.

1) Why the hell is Beyonce's sister at a Kraftwerk concert?

2) Why the hell is Beyonce's sister in regular seating?

I can't imagine Beyonce's people didn't have any pull at a freaking Kraftwerk concert.

Also, Kraftwerk is awesome.

Solange's music taste is actually pretty great. I know she's into Beach House and has worked with Dev Hynes from Blood Orange. I saw her last year at a festival headlined by Morrissey and Kanye and had bands like Jesus and Mary Chain, Savages, Death Grips, FKA Twigs, Neon Indian and Battles, Nicholas Jaar, and Simian Mobile Disco etc etc. She's for lack of a better word kind of in the indie music scene.

Kraftwerk probably hates Jay-Z, they hate sampling, they went after Afrika Bambaataa back in the day.

Actor and Rapper Riz Ahmed (Jason Bourne, Four Lions, Star Wars: Rogue One Nightcrawler and The Night Of) wrote a Essay About Being Attacked By Airport Security And Racial Profiling that got some buzz on the net.

He said America was surprisingly still pretty segregated in many of the places he had spent time in.
"Conversely, American society is pretty segregated, but the myth it exports is of a racial melting-pot, everyone solving crimes and fighting aliens side by side."

I guess we're desegregated compared to pre-civil rights.

But I never thought about Britain being less segregated than the US.

I figured all places were segregated to an extent.

I sure there are plenty of segregated places in Britain but Riz Ahmed grew up in London which is very diverse.

I was born and raised in London. A lot of film and television doesn't really reflect what modern London is actually really like in regards to the diversity and people mixing from different backgrounds.

A lot of people that aren't from the city or live here don't really understand it. Some people are scared by the cities diversity but most Londoners seem proud about it and think it is one of the things that make the city great.

There is even a social dialect called Multicultural London English that a lot of millennials speak.

Eggsy from Kingsman and Ali G speak in the dialect.

Interesting.

And I have to say, Multicultural London English is a way better term than Ebonics.

I already see people saying he was reaching into the cab where there might have been a weapon. Also expect this poor guys entire life story posted online to find any kind of criminal activity to "justify" it.

That's what kills me! People look for ANY excuse to justify the cop who will get a paid vacation(basically)and no jail time but yet are pissed that Kapernick is doing what he is doing. If he didn't, this stuff would be buried under other news. Like the cop in NYC who killed a guy because he was scared but only got probation. That is crazy!

Just to play devil's advocate, let's even say, okay, maybe he was hypothetically reaching for a weapon.....but they already stunned him, and then they shot him seconds later.

Even if he was reaching for something, he'd already been incapacitated. So that excuse doesn't get very far.

Is this whole crowd of police officers "confronting" an unarmed motorist stranded by the side of the road so trigger-happy and afraid of their own shadows?

Once he was tased, they should have just subdued at that point.

I hate that people are already making excuses for the cop who shot this man. She sounded freaked out on the audio, too. This dude got tased already and you still shoot him?

A man dies yet people are upset at Colin Kaepernick "disrespecting" an inanimate object. That's the problem. Overall, these patriotic people probably won't even show half as much anger with this man's death than they did with the flag bulls***.

I think the issue is the immediate reaction without all the facts....because of the victim's skin color. Wait until all the evidence is in before you torch down the town. Unarmed whites are killed too but no one cares. It shouldn't be a race thing but that's the first thing people jump to no matter the circumstances. If it turns out to be a race thing, send them to prison. The end.

You're right, unarmed whites are killed by criminals at an alarming rate but those are criminals. Police are held to higher standards. They take an oath to serve and protect. There's no justification for shooting dude in cold blood. But I'd bet money that none of those cops spend a day in jail. The MOST they will get is probation IF they get that.
