Discussion: Racism - Part 3

Wasn't this what Dylan Roof wanted by shooting up that church.

And that guy who wanted to bomb something today as well..........I can see a couple of others dying for the cause to get everything set off. Real talk, with people not calling out both sides for "racism," this may get uglier by the moment.

I don't even want to think about what these nuts wanna do.

Baltimore just voted to get rid of their statues.

How is this fascism?

Because the Far Right is convinced that efforts to remove Confederate monuments constitutes a vast conspiracy to "erase history" and "destroy their heritage". Which is ironic, because they both claim to be the only true patriots and then base their precious heritage in one of the biggest acts of treason ever committed against our nation.

Woah now! Those honorable men were fighting for the states rights we enjoy today!

Like..owning sla...beating sla.......

STATES RIGHTS!!

How is this fascism?

Simple. Projection. This is what the nazis want to do, so clearly this is what their opponents want to do. It's why some whites are scared of being a minority. They know what they do to minorities, so they are afraid of turn about being fair play.

I wouldn't be surprised if you start to see a rise in extremist rednecks who die for the cause. Just like extreme Muslims blow themselves up, don't be surprised if it reverses.

This would suck. Not that I'm fond of bigots, but that I don't want my country to become so dangerous you can't go anywhere. :(

Protesters in my home town (Durham, NC) toppled a Confederate statue in response to the Charlottesville violence

While it's cathartic and all, I wish it had been taken down legally with the crowd cheering on. This is going to give the neo-Nazis and white supremacist groups more fuel to paint them as 'fascists.'

They're Neo-Nazis and white Supremacists, they don't get to complain about fascism and nobody should even listen to that idiocy.

They're NAZIS....I know Americans often don't treat the Klan as a serious threat, but these dudes are openly flying swastikas, chanting Nazi slogans, and have the expressed goal of eradicating non white people.

As soon as you align yourself with White Supremacy of any kind you lose any moral high ground to complain about anything as far as I'm concerned.

People have to deal with the evil of other people all the time, whether it's propagated individually or through organizations. It's naive to say, for instance, that if George Zimmerman is acquitted for a charge of murder-- a charge that could not be proven from the evidence-- that this or any other single thing proves that Racism is Systemic in America.

youre use of the martin/zimmerman incident as an example shows that you have no idea what the issue was to black people. After the initial investigation the police and states atty were reluctant to charge zimmerman with anything. It took a national outcry, the DOJ and a statement from the President before that case went to trial. Do you honestly believe that a black man involved in the shooting death of a 16 year old white kid who wasn't committing a crime and had junk food in his pockets would have not at the very least automatically been charged with something (whether or not the charges would lead to conviction)? Do you really believe the police would have given that black man his gun back and said its a clean shoot, sorry for the inconvenience?

You're claiming that the acts of whites against blacks are systemic no matter the individual circumstances, but that the acts of blacks against whites are non-systemic. This is called "special pleading."

okay... now just show where blacks as a group have established laws in this country that discriminate against anyone? Show where blacks as a group have created organizations that have negatively affected whites or any other groups in real ways beyond someone choosing to be offended by the sheer existence of said group?

The reason you're keeping your definition of "benefit" fuzzy is so that it can include anything you dislike, even if it confers no direct benefit on any single white person. To use your "black-ish" example, what specific benefit does any white person get from the situation of a black guy avoiding contact with a little white girl because he's afraid of being lynched?

again its the perception and the consequences of that perception that you don't have to deal with.

'It's not illegal to be black': Cops complain online about white people getting 'freaked out' by their black neighbors and wasting police time with 911 calls

A black person fishing in a community pond, two black people jump-starting a car and ‘someone from the Middle East looking mean’ – these are all ‘suspicious’ scenes that have prompted members of the public to dial 911.
These calls were revealed by serving and former police officers who took to the internet to air their astonishment at white people panicking sometimes simply at the mere sight of someone with different racial lineage being nearby.

Dozens have joined an online discussion thread to share their experiences.

The first post, on Reddit’s ProtectAndServe forum, which was set up for the law enforcement community, was called ‘People, please stop making my job so difficult’ and written by a verified police officer called sf7.

He wrote: ‘So I'm working last week and get dispatched to a call of 'Suspicious Activity.' Ya'll wanna know what the suspicious activity was? Someone walking around in the dark with a flashlight and crow bar? Nope. Someone walking into a bank with a full face mask on? Nope.

‘It was two black males who were jump starting a car at 930 in the morning. That was it. Nothing else. Someone called it in. People. People. People. If you're going to be a racist, stereotypical jerk... keep it to yourself.’
Shortly after the post went up, police officer Amipow revealed that he got a call ‘about someone illegally fishing in a community pond’.

He continued: ‘Once I arrive, I see a middle aged black man fishing in the pond. He looks over when I pull up and immediately approaches me. He said, "Let me guess, my racist neighbors called again saying that I didn't live here."'

A former 911 dispatcher called Nursehokiehi said that lots of people rang in to report a ‘suspicious person’ and when asked for clarification as to what was suspicious about the individual, ‘most would mumble, stumble or even whisper “umm, he’s/she’s black” or “Muslim-looking”’.
Nursehokiehi added: '[replying] "Ma'am, it's not illegal to be black (or Muslim, or Mexican, etc)... " usually worked.'

Other racist complaints aired on the thread include a lady who called the police because a black man was sitting in a truck opposite her house, a woman in a college town who reported a ‘middle easterner’ strolling along looking ‘mean’ - the officer failed to find this person among the 200 or so walking around - and an anonymous resident dialing 911 at the sight of a black woman walking to her mail box.

And a traffic officer with the handle TeenageExplorer wrote: ‘We frequently get calls about black men and women and kids, yes kids, walking. Like WWB [Walking While Black] was actually a crime and not a Twitter joke.'

I came across a video on Youtube, from "Vice News" where one of their reporters was able to interview one of the Alt-Right leaders.

My god, I know they were demented and crazy but I hadn't realized just how deep their insanity went. Jeez, this world has so many problems as it is and now we have to deal with this garbage.

Man, America is going to be considered to be a joke of a country to all nations if this keeps up.

Sad, truly sad. :(

Strange that these kind of incidents make more folks realize what they should've already known, which is that America isn't this bastion of hope or happy racial mixing pot. The country itself may be legally integrated, but emotionally, folks will always be segregated. Cynical, but that's how I see it.

But the actual rub is they can't leave people alone. What does someone being bilingual have to do with them? My friends constantly switch back and forth between languages but according to Alt- Right Nazis that's Unamerican?

Yep! Sadly, I say this about the police killing minorities as well. The first thing people say is why didn't you do what the police said? You can't do that when you are in a choke hold! It wasn't until the Australian lady was killed in MN that people realized that maybe there is a police problem. Not once did I hear anyone say why didn't she comply?

Well, cops are more fearful too, with the rise in killings. Everyone just needs to calm down and listen, on both sides. :(

Man, America is going to be considered to be a joke of a country to all nations if this keeps up.

As kids, people have posters of celebrities and sports icons on their walls. The Alt-Right had posters of notorious German officials from the 1930's and 1940's as kids.

There's not evidence that there's a rise in killings. Police shootings have never been officially tracked by the government. To some people it seems like there's a rise in shootings because there's video evidence of it. What's been going on has been known and talked about within minority communities since the police have existed in the United States.

Also listening doesn't mean you want be killed. We've numerous instances of people doing exactly what Cops told them to do and they were still shot.

And that's without even talking about the beatings and false arrests. I still remember that report about the Baltimore Police department and it's wide spread corruption and abuse. They were doing strip searches on people in public and assaulting black people for just being in the park.

It never will be. Some people are and will always be racist. Racism comes from every side and affects everyone. It's a sad fact. Largely however I think we are in a good place. Most people aren't racist. It's the loud minority that gets the most attention sadly. It can always improve and will with each successive generation but it will never be perfect.

I understand free speech but hate speech coupled with low IQ's from either side = violence. What can help? Qualify the KKK, Neo Nazis, etc as gang members and disperse or arrest any and all public gatherings of such. Make a constitutional amendment making it illegal to fly any other flag besides the US flag and any State flag. No one should be flying a Nazi flag. No one should be flying a Confederate flag. No one should move here and fly another Country's flag be it a murderous regime or any other nation...publicly. You can do as you wish in your own home. You can't really regulate free speech so I don't see that as ever changing legally. It's vile but idiots gonna idiot.

The Republican Party voted a racist into office, who ran on a racist platform that they said spoke to them. That is a pretty large minority.

Also thank you for the Trump, "many sides" approach. Not like I needed it confirmed, but thank you.

You seem to be part of the solution!

If you think every white Trump voter is racist then every black Obama voter is racist. Can't have it one way.

No it doesn't and to even say such a thing is silly. If racism affected everyone we wouldn't see in countless studies and mountains of data that points to racial inequalities that negatively impacts POC.

Did you just compare voting for Obama because he is black and voting for Trump because he showed a disdain for non-white people? Really?

You know what isn't part of the solution? Voting a clear racist into office.

chaseter, if I am remember correctly, says he isn't a Trump support. How he post contradicts that rather completely imo.

Anyone can be racist. But if you are a minority in the US, you don't exactly have a KKK or Nazi heritage to call up to invoke your disdain for others. Its such a fundamental difference, it changes the equation almost completely.

When you see people of all races looking at those monsters that showed up in Virginia over he weekend, you can understand how they might react in a less then satisfactory way. There is no understanding in just hating other people because of their skin color. And that is what those anti-protesters were faced with. Hateful human beings, showing up with their symbols, telling them they aren't worth living.

This is exactly why Trump was an embarrassment trying to blame other people for racist showing up to start a problem. It shows he sees these racists as his people, people he needs to defend and handle with kids gloves. Just like Russia. Imagine that.
