Chelsea Manning is running for Senator in Maryland. Thoughts?

She would have my vote if I lived in Maryland. The incumbent Ben Cardin voted to extend Trumps surveillance powers, voted to make involvement with the BDS movement a felony punishable by up to a fine of 1 million dollars and/or 20 years of jail time and tried to ruin the Iran Deal

No, not on the Federal level. Thus why Arpaio can run. Local government may be different, since I know states have different rules on felons voting.

I don't understand why she wants to run for Senate, as that doesn't seem likely to happen, and a very odd career change.

I don't understand why she wants to run for Senate, as that doesn't seem likely to happen, and a very odd career change.

I can't imagine a better platform to tackle topics like the complete failure of legal whistle-blower systems to amount to anything, prison practices, and the police/surveillance state

The weird thing is it seems like there's actually some money/influence behind her. The Bernie type people, maybe? I dunno, but it seems like someone's bankrolling this in a significant way. Kinda hilarious that people think it's viable to do that, could be a bit of an embarassment.

Legal for her to run or not, whoever she's running against is just going to have to point a finger and yell "TRAITOR", and it's basically over.

Nothing in the Constitution disqualifies a felon from serving in Congress. I was shocked to find this out.

Kennedy got some attention during the healthcare debacle, and is young. A good contrast, imo.

Your second statement contradicts your first. If sexual harassment is a real thing and should be treated seriously, then the woman shouldn't have been reassigned. The man who harassed her stayed and later got another job where he harassed someone else.

One of the good things about Trump is that he saved us from hereditary government. We had two Bushes, but Trump defeated the third one. He then defeated the second Clinton. I don't want another Kennedy or Obama as president. Political power should be held more widely than just a few families.

All I know is, Saturday Night Live better have a skit on it, or they have totally lost their touch as pure unadulterated political satire. I finally had to stop watching and I read the transcript this morning. It was a fantastic speech, but while reading the transcript I didn't remember any of what I was reading....I was only starring at his mouth.

The hilarious thing about having a Kennedy doing the rebuttal is that JFK wouldn't even be able to make it through a primary now, with the current party. Dude would be considered some anti-economic-equality, hardcore religious, hard-foreign-power-projection quasi-Republican by these people.

They do need to make up their minds, though, whether they're going to go with another centrist Hillary vibe going forward, or really lean into the revolutionary Sanders/Warren schtick. They're still muddled and confused with it as of now.
