I just wanna say that while there has been some serious missteps with the franchise I’m still happy with X-Men, X2, First Class, The Wolverine, DoFP, Deadpool and Logan.

Apocalypse could’ve been so much better and let’s not even bother with Origins and Last Stand.

Just wanna put it out there that overall we’ve had some really excellent films that have been unique and different. And X-Men and Spider-Man coming in during the 2000s helped launch the amazing and rich comic book movie world we have today. So as a fan I’m happy about the previous chapter, what’s next we shall see I am sad to see it go but then so excited to see what’s in store. And we still have a bunch of movies left. I’m hoping Dark Phoenix will be decent. I’m not expecting DoFP quality but for a franchise that’s been with me for so long I want it to end good and for something new and fresh to begin.

The point is more to get people's expectations in check. It seems people essentially expect the Fantastic Four and X-Men to show up in MCU properties starting today. Plus, those five years or so should be more than enough time for people to realize that there are a whole lot of downsides to this deal as well outside of the Marvel characters.
I agree. There is a sense of Kevin Feige being this messiah figure descending from the heavens to rapture the X-men and the Fantastic Four into his utopia. And in this utopia, everyone's favourite character and storyline is "done justice." It will be very interesting to see how and when the MCU starts to integrate these characters, who gets left out, and how the inevitable changes from the comics are received by fans.

Reading that Feige interview again, it seems he was planning to reboot the MCU anyways from the sounds of things.

No people need to go crazy! X-MEN are joining MCU. The CompleX is finally over!

The desire to tamp down expectations right now is a bit silly. Naturally, most people are elated at the acquisition and we're anticipating what it will mean for the Marvel properties. We can have fun with the prospect as much as we want. Even if we swing off virtual chandeliers and run wild across the Internet, everything will be fine. :jd:

A month ago people's expectations about X-Men reverting would've been treated as a pipe dream. Yeah there might be knee jerk reactions but they deserve them.

It's not like people are gonna refrain from paying for a MCU X-Men movie.

rebooting doesn't sound like Feige

Rebooting makes it sound like they're in trouble or have run out of creative options. That's far from where they are. There's no need to reboot.

The way I view the future Fox films is this: if cameras aren't rolling in 2018 (or possibly very early 2019), then the film isn't going to happen.

It is certainly going to be very interesting. Especially if the upcoming Fox movies get good reviews. It'll be unlike anything we've seen before for sure. :woot:

I never said they would. I was mostly referring to the fact that people forget that outside of the MCU stuff this is an absolutely terrible deal that will hurt the industry in the long term. ;)

I'm there right with you. I would never trade the movies you listed for MCU movies in a million years. I think we should respect what the X-films have done in the last 18 years, but obviously without rose-tinted glasses. I do think that it's time to close this chapter and start a new one, but an 18 year chapter with nuance, gravitas, relatable themes, great performances, and great character work (for certain characters) is nothing to scoff at. I am both excited for Dark Phoenix and open-minded regarding the MCU reboot. After Homecoming, I learned not to dismiss Disney/Marvel and Black Panther looks incredible, but I will always credit X-men (2000) for making me an X-men fan for life. I totally encourage and support Disney/Marvel in making movies that give us what Fox lacked (though I wish this happened in a way that wasn't as damaging for the industry as a whole).

No matter what anyone deserves, we are still about 2-3 years at least from seeing any of fantasy ideas come to fruition. I mean considering we waited four years just for Avengers after the first Iron Man, that's okay. But we are still a ways out.

Well this is a thread about Disney/Marvel's X-Men buyout. Don't see what's the issue in the omission of that topic. Sounds like raining on people's parade.

I never said it was wrong not to discuss that here, but you asked so I clarified.

I think part of the problem is how some of us see different terms being used. For example, you speak of things like "ways out" and "years off" and then say we are looking at about 2-3 years. To me personally, that's not "years away." Years away would be like 2028 or 2030. 2021 or 2022 is nothing.

Maybe things would go smoother on here if we just spoke in terms of dates and hard numbers instead of vague terms.

Considering that all but a few mutants have been either omitted from the Fox-Men verse or used without having personalities or even names, as well as the fact that there have been drastic changes from the comic books, it will indeed be interesting to see what Kevin Feige & co. decide to do. My sense is that Feige will decide to reboot both the Fox-Men and FF in order to adapt them into the MCU in a manner that complements what has already been accomplished. A completely fresh take on these characters is what's needed to revitalize them and attract new fans.

All people can do at this point is speak vaguely as far as a timeline and direction go, we know nothing! Lol

Of course not, but it would clarify what it is we actually mean.

By years, I just mean...more than one :)

But yeah, 2021-2022 is definitely within reach :D

Who else is ready to see Kevin Feige's villain problem ruin Doctor Doom, Galactus, Annihilus, Kang, Magneto, Mister Sinister and Apocalypse?

TBH, Loki, Ultron and the Phase 3 and Netflix villains aren't as bad with the exceptions of Dormammu and Kaecilius. Dormammu can still reappear to be done better, though.

Maybe the villain problem is that they couldn't use those characters :D

The best 2 Netflix villains are great. I didn't like Ultron. This year has seen a marked improvement in villains and now Marvel will have some of their top villains available. Let's hope they can do them justice.
