Disney's Frozen - Part 1

So I went a bit crazy after Disney released that Multi-language Let It Go reel and hunted down about 75% of the different versions of the song, it's kinda remarkable from a linguistic perspective just how different an experience a song can be when it's sung in another language. The vocals are all superb but the language itself can greatly affect the song, some sound far more suited to the song than others, some even sound better than the English version. As a musician I don't know why but I've never bothered to seek out foreign versions of popular songs, it's almost like hearing it for the first time with a new language. Will have to seek out more foreign versions of songs I like. Thanks Disney.

Where is this clear footage coming from?

High quality screeners for pretty much every Academy Award nominated film have been leaked. It happens every year right around this time.
There's been tons of very good quality stills and gifs hitting the net over the last week or so.

Loved it! I was actually very tired when I watched it and am going to try to watch it again this weekend when I'm fresh, but even with that I thought it was brilliant! The the story, the setting, the characters, the humour and the music were all excellent and I agree with the high praised that it's the best Disney movie since the Renaissance era.

After Wednesday's $675,281 Frozen has $338,125,385 domestic and should be about $338.8 going into the weekend.
It's only losing 222 screens this weekend and will still be playing on 2757 screens, so a conservative estimate of $8.2m this weekend should put it around $347m. Even without the sing-along expansion in 2 weeks it was projected to finish with $380-$390m (well past Despicable Me 2's $368m, which will put Frozen as the #1 animated movie and #3 movie overall of 2013), , if the expansion gives it a good boost it could top $400m domestic (falling just short of Iron Man 3's $409m for the #2 spot).

man.....that would be outstanding if it can reach those numbers!!

Ok, I've long held onto the hand drawn animation with all my heart, but after Frozen I can't ignore how visually impressive the CGI nimation is. I kinda hate saying this because I was dead set against the idea for a while due to my own bias towards drawing in general but I'd really like to see the entire Disney hand drawn back catalogue given a CGI makeover.

Oh goo God no! If Disney attempted to CGI The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Lady & The Tramp, or any other of those classics I would die a little inside.

I can accept that, sadly, CGI is the future for 99% of American animation (though it doesn't have to be). But if they start tooling around with the classics, every cinephile's calm should be as collectively ruffled this side of Hayden Christensen in ROTJ.

I love Frozen and think it's great. I love its animation (though I think it would look even better hand drawn). But let's not go down that rabbit hole.

There's a 3D movie at Disney World called Mickey's Philharmagic that has scenes from The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast CGI'd over. Granted they're new versions of the scenes made just for the film - the story is that Donald Duck has lost Mickey's Sorcerer's Apprentice hat, and goes traveling though various songs from those films and a few others to try and get it back.

But yeah, it looks weird. It's still my favorite 3D movie in the theme parks and I've seen it about a dozen times now, but I definitely prefer the original animation in the original films.

idk.....I suppose for curiosity's sake, I wouldn't mind seeing CGI models of Belle, Ariel, and the rest of the 2d princesses. just to imagine what they'd look like compared to Rapunzel, Elsa, and Anna.

HOWEVER, I would never want them to actually redo the classic films in CGI.

I saw a CGI Ariel in some promotional material once. Didn't look great because the rendering seemed unfinished, she had little texture on her face or costume. I'm actually surprised Disney haven't converted all their famous characters to CG, at least for promotional and merchandising reasons.

I'm guessing it's prob easier and cheaper to convert the CGI princesses to hand drawn versions than the other way around.

Yeah, the whole film (which is only about 11 minutes long) is CGI. The only princesses in the film are Ariel and Jasmine. There's a "Be Our Guest" sequence, but Donald is in Belle's place, so she's not there.

The premise of the film is that Donald is supposed to be setting up the orchestra for Mickey, but he tries on his Sorcerer hat and all hell breaks loose, and Donald winds up chasing the hat through all of these scenes from Disney movies.

I think the order was this:

-Be Our Guest, with Donald in Belle's place.
-Fantasia, during the Sorcerer's Apprentice scene.
-Part of Your World (the hat is now in Ariel's treasure trove)
-I Just Can't Wait To Be King, with Donald getting trampled by all the animals
-Tinkerbelle makes an appearance, which leads to "You Can Fly", that has Donald flying with Peter Pan.
-A Whole New World, with Donald following Aladdin and Jasmine on the magic carpet

It's in 3D, and the screens wrap around the front of the theater, so the effects are really cool, especially the flying carpets - it feels like the whole theater is flying. You can also smell the apple pie during the Be Our Guest scene, and they spray water at you during the Fantasia scene.

I wouldn't want to see the original movies converted to CGI, but for the purposes of this, it was pretty cool.

My guess is that they don't need to know how to sing, because their job is to meet and greet the people at the Disneyland, and they don't have to do anything else.
