Behind the scenes - voice actors.
Demi Lovato's version isn't bad (a big part of that has to do with the song just being well written) but Menzel's is on a whole other level in terms of execution.
I get goosebumps and butterflies in my stomach for goodness sake when I listen to Menzel's version. Every time.
I totally agree. I have nothing against Demi Lovato, but there are few singers who can compare with Idina Menzel, and Idina's version sends chills down my spine whenever I listen to it. That's why I'm going to buy the soundtrack, which is something I rarely do except for Broadway shows. If Let It Go doesn't win Oscar, it'll be a travesty.
Btw, for those of you who are fans of both Frozen and Wicked, this is a video of Idina Menzel singing the song Defying Gravity (from Wicked) with the footages from Frozen. It's terrific, and a reminder of just how amazing Idina's singing really is:
Just want to let you guys who just discovered the talented Idina Menzel to check out this video in which Idina sings Defying Gravity, from her musical Wicked.
I've heard of that song before, but this is the 1st time ( in forever ) that I've actually listened to the whole thing.
it starts out kind of "slow" and different, but by the ending.....wow!!
that's also the way I felt about Let It Go when I first listened to it. it takes some time to get used to it and adjust because it's not "traditionally melodic." It's not a "soothing/pleasing" melody like Beauty and the Beast, Part of Your World, or I See The Light. But by the time it starts to get going and by the time it reaches the final verse........you just get blown away!!
and I can definitely see the parallels and similarities between Defying Gravity and Let It Go; it's a song that would certainly suit Elsa!!
both are certainly power anthems of freedom and liberation.
Absolutely.I won't be surprised if they decided to cast Idina as Elsa after they heard the Wicked musical. As you said, both Defying Gravity and Let It Go are similar thematically, and both are sung perfectly by Idina Menzel. However, I think Let It Go is the superior of the two songs, and one that will be the highlight of her career.
I'd turn it off right there. No reason to keep watching.I totally agree. I just saw this film last week. I have to say I really enjoyed it. To be honest, the only reason I went was because it was cheap night Tuesday (only $6) and Frozen was the only movie starting at the time I got to the theatre (8:00). But I'm glad I chose that film rather than waiting for one of the "more grown up" movies.
The kid from the family sitting just down the row from me was really cute. She was so upset about Princess Anna being frozen solid near the end she wanted to leave because it was too sad. But just as her parents were about to accommodate her, Princess Anna thaws out and the kid was happy again. It's nice when people can find a movie that touching.
Don't know if it has been mentioned, but Frozen has officially become the #1 original (non-sequel) animated film of all time.![]()

so do you think this has enough gas in the tank to make another $20m+ domestically to pass Despicable Me 2's $368m?
That is an absolute certainty.
It will be at $350 (just under or just over) by Thursday, coming off a 9.118m weekend. Weekend to weekend drops have been steady at -18% to -23%, so even taking no other factors into account it would normally do another 7m+ this weekend.
But there are 2 big factors this weekend.
1- Superbowl Sunday causes drops for all movies on Sunday, less so for female and kid oriented movies than others, but they get hit too
2- The Sing-a-long expansion is this weekend, the effect is unknowable, but worst case scenario is it has no effect, best case it could add a couple million, likely result is probably somewhere in between.
Frozen will probably be in theaters for a long time yet, even after the DVD release in March, which means it will be playing when the Academy Awards are handed out. Assuming it wins Best Animated Movie and best song it will get an "Oscar Bump" (movies that win major Oscars and are still playing get a boxoffice boost as people rush out to check them out, studios often bring them back on more screens too).
The absolute floor looks like high 380's, the ceiling appears to be low 400's, but if it's in the 390's Disney will take steps to push it over (Disney made sure Tangled played for an extra month to get that last million to pass 200m)
If I were to guess, I'd say Frozen Passes DM2 on the second weekend in Feb (Feb 14-16), Valentine's day is another big boost day, romance and family movies always have bigger than normal days on Feb. 14.
Disney knows that Frozen is on the verge of breaking several more records, so I'm sure they will do all they can to push it over.
