Disney's Frozen - Part 2

The film is going to do gangbusters when it hits home video. Not just families buying it, but a broader demographic.

I know I'm buying the blu-ray disc on March 18, but I wish Disney would announce the date that the 3D blu-ray will be released. I'd rather get the 3D but I'm buying the blu-ray anyway.

No, no, that's clearly what it was. Because when you think Satan, you think of a lonely person who spends all their time in their bedroom to avoid hurting people and ends up running away to be themself while not hurting anyone. Clearly this is the epitome of all that is dark and evil. :o

of course. :o

Personally, I feel it's the best kind of theme/metaphor: one that works on multiple levels. When watching the film, I see the broader being yourself theme one as more of a surface layer and it works perfectly fine. However, I feel that beyond that the LGBT one (not just sexuality) works better. As jmc said, it can often times be a default go to when it's a film about being yourself and I agree in some cases. But, in this case, I felt the film had so much that leaned it towards that specifically that I can't read it any other way.

and I think we bring our own experiences into the equation, too, in terms of how we relate to the characters, like Elsa.

in your case, you may have been more apt to see or relate to the LGBT themes.

in my case, I was not. I related to her in a different way.

but, as you said, it works on multiple levels, and both of us can relate to Elsa on similar and on different levels.

that's the beauty of Elsa!! :woot: Like the beautiful ice crystals she creates, she's a personal reflection of each of us who watch the film, reminding us to be true and embrace our special unique selves.

and, perhaps, that was also the case with that pastor guy. He brought his own experiences/biases into the equation and that affected how he saw and interpreted the character.

although...........I still think the Satan analogy is just reading way too much into it and pushing it way too far. And if you really think that, then you've missed the entire point of Elsa's character........

He seemed to have missed, ignored, or forgotten.......Anna wasn't the only character who sacrificed herself in the film. Elsa made a sacrifice herself for 13 years to protect her sister and those around her.

It was supposed to come out the same day as the regular DVD/Blue Ray release, but it got postponed indefinitely. I suspect it's an effort to help the later theatrical run. I don't think they were expecting that it would still be playing probably into April.

Russia was a bit slow reporting, but the weekend ending Jan.26 numbers finally came out.

9) Frozen - 364 736(32 938 784)

#1 was I' Frankenstein

1) I,Frankenstein - 6 336 631

Foreign markets are slow to report sometimes. Some interesting numbers.

Frozen still number 1 in Venezuela in its 6th weekend
#2 in Australia in its 5th weekend.

interesting. thanks.

You can import it from the UK if you really want it in March. Pretty sure it's region free and there's a nice Zavvi steelbook being sold over there. Otherwise, there'll probably be some ultimate collector's edition in the winter to try and get people to double dip with the 3D, the sing along and hopefully a few more bonus features (under an hour for the highest grossing non-sequel animated film, really? That's ridiculous).

I really hope they have a good "making of" bonus feature.

I'd love to delve into the history of how they made the film.

and it sounds like it has a long history of failed attempts......going all the way back to Walt's days.

I really loved the Blu-Ray Beauty and the Beast "making of" feature. Felt Tangled's was lacking a bit.

Disappointingly short.

Target has one more deleted scene, "The Voices of Frozen" featurette and an art gallery.

Looks like Disney is probably holding some of the features for later, probably when they finally release the 3D blu-ray in the winter. Well, I hope so anyway.

I hate it when they do stuff like that........

Perspective very much comes into play and I don't think it's fair at all to say one metaphor works better than another. It's what you personally take out of it. I look at Elsa as being an artistic metaphor, someone who has these abilities but had never been given the opportunity to use them, but I can equally see her being a metaphor for abuse, someone who has a dark secret in her past still struggling to deal with the trauma with her running off and embracing her powers akin to a drug problem she develops.

and speaking of that, I think I read somewhere that was one reason why Demi wanted to do the pop version of Let It Go, or why they asked her to do it.

Demi had that dark chapter in her life where she went through rehab and everything. so she could relate to the meaning of the song.

I read that too. I heard Demi takes a trip to rehab for a week every now and then cause she fears she will relapse. I think her version is good, but I think the omission of some of the lyrics robs some of the power the original had.

Wed. numbers for South Korea are out (I love how fast their reporting system is there).

Another huge increase. +34% from Tue and 93% from last Wed. The big holiday in SK is just beginning, should be a huge weekend there.

316,392 admissions, 3,891,764 total. Nearly $30m US.

Before this opened expectations were along the lines of $20m would be good, $30m would be amazing. It's going to easily double "amazing", maybe more.

Oh no, absolutely. Perspective always comes into what you get out of a film. And by one working better than the other, I meant for me personally. My apologies if it came off as rude.

I'm bored and have nothing to do for the next little while so I'll just explain why I read the film that way. The powers growing stronger at puberty, not wanting people to touch her, hiding away in her bedroom, the constant talk of doors ("Come out the door" in Do You Want to Build a Snowman?, it's in a few lines and in the title of Love is an Open Door and "Turn away and slam the door" in Let It Go) obviously I'm relating to closet door which I feel fits in each of those, "Conceal, don't feel" being a more....Disney way of putting what I and I know others get told, the way the town reacted when her powers revealed, the actions of her parents, etc... bring me to this conclusion. Of course, as you mentioned, perception comes into play. However, I genuinely felt most of it felt too almost obvious to have not been on their mind when making the film. But, once again, to each their own, especially on a Disney film. I've never liked arguing Disney films. If we can agree it's good, which I think we can, it doesn't matter. As long as how you read it makes you happy (NOT that she's the devil XD).

Apologies for that really long and poorly constructed sentence. I've only just woke up.

is it wrong that I now can't get Defying Gravity out of my head?? lol

I don't think it's possible to have Idina Menzel's singing stuck in your head be a bad thing.

and what better way to wake up than to discuss Frozen!! :woot:

It seems everything to do with Frozen is successful:

The soundtrack to Disney's "Frozen" returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 93,000 copies in the week ending Jan. 26, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That's up 7% compared with its sales in the previous week (87,000). This is the album’s third nonconsecutive week at No. 1. A week ago, it was No. 2.

Last week's chart-topper, Bruce Springsteen's "High Hopes," falls to No. 8 in its second week, selling 26,000 (down 74%).

"Frozen" is the first soundtrack to spend at least three weeks at No. 1 since 2007, when the TV soundtrack to "High School Musical 2" ruled for four frames. The last film soundtrack to spend three or more weeks at the top was "Bad Boys II," which reigned for four weeks in August 2003.

Cumulative sales for "Frozen" now rise to 769,000.

For the first time in FOREVER! There'll be music, there'll be FUN! For the first time in FOREVER! A Disney movie will be loved. I know it may last only for today, but for the first time in FOREVER, for the first time IN FOREVER! Nothing's in our WAY!
