Disney's live-action "Mulan"

I had no real interest in this but now it will probably be a family movie night, so Disney gets $30 from me that they likely wouldn’t have before. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I won‘t pay 30$ for Mulan or Black Widdow lol
...Eternals and Multiverse of Madness on the other hand...

Ok but...won't the prices go down as time goes on? So if you want to watch it right away, you can pay $30 for your entire family to do so...maybe a week, two weeks later the price goes down for everyone else? And if everyone waits a few weeks and still wants to see it, the thought is that it will make its money?

Oh wow. I can’t see VoD being hugely successful at that kind of price.

This is a rare once in a lifetime situation.

People are starved for new content at this time. No big movies are coming out so the people that can pay will probably pay $30 dollars to see it.

I don't buy it. People don't wanna pay $30 do to watch a movie once. For some families sure, but there are alot who wont

Will it go down though? If it does, it'll just take even longer for it turn a profit.

It won‘t have much success outside the US as well - take Onward for example - it has been released on D+ in March, whereas other countries, 5months later, don‘t even have informations, when it will be on D+

Many people can afford $30 and do spend that and more in the cinema, but wouldn’t be as inclined to for VoD where the experience is not really close. Maybe for the biggest films like the MCU and Star Wars and people’s personal favourites. Disney classics are the kinds of films I always want to see but wouldn’t need to see on day 1.

I'd pay $30 for Tenet, or the MCU, or Star Wars, or something else I was really interested in, but not just any movie that comes along. Not for Mulan.

People are definitely not forking over $30 bucks for every new movie that's coming out VOD which is why this kind of business will not be sustainable in the future. Maybe if it's a Marvel movie or a new Star Wars movie they'll probably do it every once in a while, but if these studios really think every tentpole/blockbuster is going to succeed this way than I'm telling you that they are in for a really rude awakening.

Well I'm sure they're hoping this won't be a long-term situation to begin with.

We'll see if it's a success.
Me myself am not not paying $30 for a 1 day rental. That's stupid.

But we'll see

Now here's where I would disagree. I'd rather see it in the cinema for the full effect. At home I think it would be boring

I hope so, because this could be pretty disastrous for a lot of ORIGINAL blockbuster/tentpole films that don't have an established audience or aren't already apart of a popular brand. If they did this for Tenet I doubt it would be anything less than a disaster to be honest, because while the hardcore Nolan fans wouldn't mind putting up that kind of cash the majority likely wouldn't, especially families which why that kind of movie needs to be released in a theater.

I feel like families are going to eat this up. It’s cheaper than going to theaters. That said, I don’t think this makes any financial sense.

Also, let me be THAT guy:

I wouldn’t watch Mulan for free lol

Yeah for sure. I always thought the PVOD thing benefits families the most. Couples maybe a distant 2nd. Depending on the movie

But for individuals, it isn't good at all

Because that call might be made later. For now, though, it's Mulan.
Yes that of course that decision might be made later. And yes of course, it's not Mulan now. What I'm saying is, New Mutants cost less was going to make less money in theaters anyway. Doesn't make sense why it wasn't first
