Disney's live-action "Mulan"

I can't believe Youtube didn't recommend this to me until yesterday. Completely missed this. Anyway, looks like "Husavik - My Hometown" finally has competition at the Oscars in the Best Song category. Really like the song and video. Reminds me of the old Bond opening credits.

So we won't have any reviews until this actually releases on Disney+? Going in on blind faith for $30 dollars.

We should have a poll to see who will/is planning to rent this for $30 when it comes out.

I still won't. I'll wait until it's free on Disney+ or cheaper. Don't see why pay $30 for this at all. Rather spend it on things I'm interested or save that money. Plus there are hours of other content out there for no additional charge

I’m sure Disney will spin it any way they want for that first opening week. But I still won’t think it’ll be comparable to what could’ve been had it been a non-pandemic theatre opening.

Oh for sure this won't make theater money. Nothing will.

But your point is right this will be spun. Studios always do. Like with those opening weekend TV spots. Movie bombs and you still get stuff like "The #1 live action movie in a America not based on a superhero property" or those weird records that are always broken.

No way for me. I can’t understand how this is going to work at such crazy prices.

The last thing is the big one for me. I wouldn't mind seeing this, but I have a bunch of other stuff I can watch without paying extra. Even if it doesn't go free for a year or two, I have no problem waiting.

Yeah that's why i never got the "I'll buy it cuz I'm bored" reasoning. There's so much content out there to enjoy. Even things I'm sure they haven't seen before. It's not like Mulan is the only thing out there. I'm sure there are other movies, books, shows, albums, to enjoy. But to each their own

They are banking on nostalgia and impatience parents with kids who will whine just enough to pay for it. If this was Black Widow, I'd probably consider it. If this was a Star Wars movies, I'd definitely do it. But this is a movie I wasn't that hyped up for to begin with.

This was dumb to reveal. The beginning of December will be here before we know it. On the plus side, they basically just cut the legs off this experiment, which means it will hopefully go poorly.
Pretty much. Were this Black Widow, it would still have made money regardless because of the built-in MCU fanbase that would rather watch it as soon as possible rather than wait three months and risk getting spoiled.

But a live action Mulan without Mushu or the songs? I can wait three months. Were this Beauty and the Beast or even Aladdin, curiosity might have gotten the better of me.

They really did make the wrong Mulan movie for this, didn't they? They made one for mass appeal in Chinese, with the idea that they were going to be uber respectful and potentially utterly dull in the process. Now that dream is dead, they don't really have a movie that feels like they can market in this situation and get the maximum payoff from the Disney+ markets.

Oh it backfired spectacularly for them. Even if it gets across the board stellar reviews (which it very well could, who knows), it'll still be a financial disappointment since it's now known that it'll be available at no additional charge in three months.

I am really curious how this reviews. I don't think it will bomb in that regard or anything, but it just looks so boring to me, even as I do want to see it. :funny:

Why did they reveal this? Did they really think it was a good idea? Also I feel for the family that randomly purchases it over Thanksgiving holidays, because that one child in their home won't stop asking for it. :hehe:

I don’t really care to see Mulan, but I want it to sell well enough that Disney decides to release Black Widow this year on D+.

Now that Disney has let everyone know that they just have to wait three months to get it for free, that's not going to happen. No big success for Mulan, not even a marginal success. So Unwise.

Trying to please China was always going to come back to bite one of these studios in the arse. There is something poetic about it being Mulan of all movies.

Only have to wait 3 :cwink:
