Disney's live-action "Mulan"

This isn't exactly shaping up as a "live-action" version of the cartoon, it appears to be a straight retelling of the same story with little to no relation to the animated version other than sharing the same source material.

Maybe after the lazy and awful live action Beauty and the Beast, this is for the best.

I find their lack of Mushu disturbing.

I'm holding out hope they will cast Billy Magnussen or Jim Sturgess. :o

Ha! Cheeky

Oh ew!

Still it would be funny if it turned out mulan was just the name they gave production and it was actually another movie entirely lol

Damn! Jason Scott Lee AND Mark Dacascos getting high profile roles. I'm loving this 90s resurgence.

From their social media account, Instagram, it seems like Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Liu Yifei are already in New Zealand.....

So filming has begun??

First Look: PRODUCTION BEGINS ON DISNEY’S LIVE-ACTION MULAN.
Epic Tale of Legendary Chinese Warrior Comes to Life with Cast Including Liu Yifei, Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee with Gong Li and Jet Li Directed by Niki Caro

Yeah, they're going all Zhang Yimou.

So basically Mushu is out or if he does exist he's a non talking animal.

I don't know why it took me until just now to realize this is the second big budget production of a mainly (entirely?) asian cast after Crazy Rich Asians.

Nice to see Rosalind Chao joining the cast. I always thought she was under utilized ever since TNG though she was more prominent in DS9 and she's clearly been working in shows all this time.

Maybe we'll see him on her clothing like how they're doing in Wreck It Ralph 2 (that we've seen so far).

I'm liking this movie more and more now. Love the first image I am seeing; it's not too princess-y, but is stylized enough to be marketable.

Loved her as the weird-ass pastor on Apartment 23. A sadly underused actress who was largely a victim of times she was in.

I don't really get the point of making a completely faithful Mulan story when there's already been so many (one just a decade ago). Isn't the point that this is going to be Disney's Mulan? Talking mini dragon and all? Fantasy is part of the fun of it.
