Disney's live-action "Mulan"

I felt like this movie worked, Cinderella worked, Alice in Wonderland worked but when they came for the big dogs like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, they should've just went balls to the damn wall. I knew Beauty was doomed when they failed miserably at "Belle" and "Be our Guest". And then both movies, I felt like all the actors were just phoning their performances in. The Lion King was iffy, I enjoyed it when I saw it, but the liberties they took with the soundtrack just wasn't it.

Broadway versions of Beauty and The Lion King still reign supreme to me.

I actually re-watched a good chuck of the live action Disney remakes over the weekend that I hadn't seen since they came out and some that I hadn't seen yet at all, and the ones that stood out the most to me were still Cinderella, Mulan, Dumbo and The Jungle Book. I didn't care all that much for either Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast though.

Bro, I was watching Hunchback of Notre Dame. If they don't put that on the damn remake list and give it the budget and life it deserves, I'm gonna riot. Could you imagine Hellfire?

^^Still the best Disney villain of all time, IMO. But I digress lol.

Basically even with the budgets and special effects we have right now they still can't capture what animation does. Mushu being included would have worked a lot better for me.

I think one of the reasons they held off on Mushu this go-round was because he was a dragon. I remember reading before that people looked at that as being very disrespectful since dragons are sacred in Chinese culture.

But it would've been a fun nod if one of the soldiers was named Mushu and cracked a joke or something.

Honestly, I am not sure that it would. For me, the problem with these is at conception. Corporate greed bleeds into them, and that is something that I don’t think adding a Mushu fixes. It is a behind the camera issue. I have just reconciled that I will be the dude out on his lawn that simply doesn't like these, and that's okay!

I'm not sure about best overall villain, but definitely best Disney villain song. And pretty mature thematically for a kids' movie.

That man was vicious. Killed Quasi's mom, kept him hidden from the world playing mind games on him, doing all that evil using the Bible to justify it. He's right up there with Bambi's mother's killer and Scar. LOL.

I checked up on the news articles in Finnish media from last week and saw the note at the bottom that Mulan will be on Disney+ on December 4. So we won't even be able to buy it.

Not to mention Frollo was straight up rapey towards Esmeralda, he really is one of the top Disney Villains. Bambi's mom's killer ain't got s--- on him.

your right this is and still is the best Disney villain song but I highly doubt Disney will give it the respect it deserves

Yeah, I completely disagree with this. Beauty and the Beast definitely "plays it is safe" by sticking close to the source material, but the music is pretty great in it, and it is clearly the film they put the most effort into, and it shows on screen. The castle and Belle's town have more to it the anything else built for any of these films, and I personally adore every song in the film. Even Gaston, which can't really compare to the original, plays really well imo. And the Beast's new song is just great.

I wonder if Disney anticipated all this controversy and that was part of the reasoning to put this on Disney+ instead of theaters.

The songs are fine, but the movie is basically unoriginal in every regard. All they do is make shallow changes that address things people joked about in the animated one. Without the charm.

I echo the feelings of Lindsey Ellis on that movie. That's i think the best review floating out there of that movie.
