A few questions for Devil May Cry fans.

  • Is the HD collection any good?
  • Is the second game actually bad, or is the hate for it overblown because the developers did something different or because it just didn't quite live up to expectations?
  • Does the fourth game have a satisfying ending, or does it leave you hanging for a sequel that will never get made?

1)the collection from what I hear is done well. but I'll let some one that has that answer better then me since I have the originals

2) yes. it's bad unfortunately. it's the one that did the most damage in the series.

3) the forth ended with Dante saying to Nero they'd meet again down the road. That ended with an opening to a possible sequel with those words. But nothing to distinct or something that was a dangler.

If any thing DMC 3 was more so about that with Vergil heading to the demon world trying to conquer it and take his vengeance out over there on what happened to his mother by taking the path of demons as that anime series stated if you have the booklet of 4 there's some on the anime. I saw the series it was interesting on his and Dante's past.

I know alot fans would have like to know and were wondering what he(Vergil) was up to in the demon world while Dante was dealing with stuff in 4 and hoping for a fallow up on that after with co-op with the three. and the two female characters.

1) it's great.
2) pretty bad, major drop in quality compared to the rest.
3) the 4th actually has a pretty good send off for Dante and his girls in the after-the-credits scene, which basically shows that everything that goes on in the games are just an average days work for them and they'll continue to go about doing it.

I can only answer question 2. It's terrible. Like Oberon said, major drop in quality, Dante's cocky personality is practically gone, I don't think he even had any sort of personality in that game. Super easy, one boss fight I practically only walked backwards and just shot the boss to death. Story, almost non-existent just like Dante's personality. Level design, sup-par.

I only finished that game once and never touched it again. I didn't even bother to play the second disc with the 2nd playable character. I think even Capcom acknowledges how bad it is, because canonically it takes place after Devil May Cry 4.

Wait what??? How's that possible ,where Trish is involved? the second game was her origin story where she first met Dante in that second game. If it takes place some time after DMC4 where in that she already knew him was working with him and was eating pizza with him during that story lady told before she took off for Nero's town ahead of Dante to disguise herself and help Dante from with in.

The first game is Trish's origin where Mundus created her and how she later joined Dante as a partner.

The second features Lucia and Dante taking on Argosax, Dante hardly speaks and flips a coin half the time. Trish and Lady don't feature at all so one can assume it takes place later on.

Devil May Cry 4 features Dante with Lady and Trish still working with him so it takes place before he's working solo in 2.

That I can under stand. It's the fact that Nathan said that part about DMC 2 takes place after DMC4 with in the second game that's tripping me up a bit.

Even though I played it and didn't like it as everyone else, That never triggered in my head as that happened. and i went further and actually finished that thing. I just saw it for that "trish's origin story" and the rest of it wasn't a good story wise compared to the others. but never did it once register as happening some time after 4. ???? I'm wondering how & when did that part come in? refesh my memory here. it's possible I may have tuned it out but seriously....

Well they distanced themselves from 2 almost right away, by making 3 a prequel instead of being directly related. Then they announced right away that 4 was set before 2, or atleast before the fourth game was released they did.

2 features none of the series characters aside from Dante so really they can feature anything and it wouldn't mess up anything.

Wow in them just doing that makes things worse. No wonder a reboot was made.( they confused the heck out of them selves doing so) Other wise it being the way it was before hearing this. It really wasn't necessary. i feel my neck straining and head aching about that. that should have be left as it was they made a mistake yes but that's a stupid way to fix it it's like they have the people at marvel Editing department working there. shudders. all they need now it to make dante do a stupid thing twice to ruin him as a character making sure people hate him by having immediate family and then make sure he doesn't care about them all of a sudden cause that's the people weaving story want things to go.

I think if they just continued to do solo stories of Dante and the girls going off on jobs then they'd be fine. The stories weren't really that connected anyway for it to be a major issue, it's like Indiana Jones, told out of order but mostly seperate stories.

It looks like they may not have seen it that way. Looking back it's possible after doing all that it looked like an even bigger mess then any fan was complaining about and they decided to scrap it all. If they didn't bother doing that yeah the could have went forward. but they sort screwed them selves over.

So if I wanted to play through the series for the first time, I should go 3, 1, 4, and then never touch 2?

I'd go 1, 3, 4 and never touch 2. DMC3 may be a prequel and start before the events of DMC1, but the gameplay just improved a lot. So if you start out with DMC3, you might miss some of its elements in DMC1.

The only thing that bothers me about DMC4's story is that they don't explain Nero. At all.

I'd also recommend playing 1, then 3.
I played DMC3 first and, when I played DMC1, it just felt like a downgrade.

DmC demo incoming, Mundus returns as the Demon King

Capcom is planning an online demo of DmC: Devil May Cry prior to the game's launch, giving fans and on-the-fence aesthetic nuts a chance to try out Dante's new look for themselves. Capcom has no firm date for the demo yet, but it is coming to consoles at least, producer Alex Jones tells a panel at New York Comic Con. There is no word on a PC demo.

Mundus, the main baddie from the first Devil May Cry, returns as ruler of the underworld in DmC. The Demon King joins another past character, Vergil: We previously asked if Vergil would be a playable character as he was in Devil May Cry 3, and got stonewalled. Jones provides a little more insight, saying Vergil as a playable character "will not be on the disc" and Capcom has no firm plans either way.

Players will learn more about Dante's (and, by proxy, Vergil's) parents in DmC, Ninja Theory's Dominique Matthews tells the panel. DmC will have "a few novelty modes" made available after beating the game, Jones says. The PC version of DmC will run 60 FPS with enhancements, and Xbox 360 and PS3 is 30 FPS.

-The HD collection is well done, longtime fans will notice no real changes aside from the HD.

-Devil May Cry 2 is by far the worst in the series, IMO it took such a drastic turn from DMC 1. Dante's brash, cocky attitude is almost non-existent, that along with his dialogue. He has enough dialogue to probably make barely one paragraph. There is literally a boss fight in the game that is so easy that all you do is stand behind them and let the pistols rip, doesn't matter what difficulty you have it on, the AI is just THAT DUMB.

-As for the ending to the fourth game, it's not really that bad, and it's not really that great either. They always manage to leave the door open for a future game, overall, it's somewhat satisfying. It's not as hard as DMC3 IMO, but it's still satisfying.

Capcom and their usual crap.
Oh well, it looks awesome, though. But seems to be part of the story that will be cut from the main game.
