I bet the Predator would play games with you, probably not scrabble though.

Nope, not scrabble. Probably a game of tag, but when the Predator tags it's with that disc weapon thing it throws at its preys.

Just the disc? Damn, I was hoping he'd like me enough to use the shoulder cannon. :csad:

Well I felt that "pwned" is used waaay too much now. I might just have to start making up my own words.

I totally agree with you. And to the non-believers who say there's no proof that they have been here, where's the proof that they haven't?

Double edge sword that one

But really the chances of their being life out there are much greater than not.

I voted "No", in the sense that if someone asked if I believed there are extra-terrestrials I couldn't honestly answer "Yes".
Please note that if someone asked me if I believe there are no aliens, I'd have to answer "No" to that as well. That is, I currently hold no beliefs on the existence or non-existence of extra-terrestrials.

Belief, at least to me, is something earned through a combination of evidence and reason. Right now we don't know enough about how life arose on Earth in order to make any estimates on the likelihood of life arising elsewhere in the Universe. Without knowing that likelihood it doesn't bloody matter how large the Universe is, life could always be juuuust unlikely enough that it would only arise once... so the whole "The Universe is sooooo big" argument doesn't seem to make sense to me.

I feel the same way.

How can you prove that? Along the lines of what Kent said, we have no evidence on how life is formed, how it arises, under what circumstances, or what the odds of it are. You (or anyone here) has no way to make any assertion of the odds being greater one way or another.

My answer is yes, since recently it was confirmed via Mars rock samples providing ancient fossils,- that worms (Martians) once lived on the surface of Mars.

I just though it would make logical sense. I was only assuming. Given that we are here.....seems normal to think that other beings are out there. I know there is no evidence to back this up but the universe is so big it would be silly if there were no aliens.

Do you have a link for this startling news?

There ya go Martians are/were real afterall.
Hence, I believe.

The Mars meteorite (part of Mars found on Earth) was thought to have signs of microbes not worms (definitely a large difference in complexity), and as far as I know it has not been confirmed that that's what they actually were. So there may have been microbes on Mars... but we don't know.

It was confirmed right?, microbes is still life.

However I think they are long extinct.

As far as I know it was not confirmed, and is still an area of heavy speculation.

And yes, if there actually were microbes on Mars that arose independently of life on Earth then that would suggest that life doesn't necessarily have to be that rare... but as long as there's reasonable doubt there (which I think there is) we still only have the Earth as a solid example of a place where life has a arisen.

But its not logical. Logical hypothesises require some fact to back them up. A number of planets or size of something is not logical fact. To make any kind of assumption we need to know the exact process by which life is started and then to make any kind of assumption on intelligent life we need to know the exact process which causes evolution and what conditions are required, etc. And then you can make some assumptions but even then you have to consider that for your assumptions to work, it would be based entirely on your Earth-based knowledge so your assumption only works assuming that circumstances were EXACTLY IDENTICAL (or at least pretty damn close) to those on Earth.

There are simply to many ifs and buts for me to subscribe to the "well, there's a lot of planets sooo..." theory.

You are correct. Scientists found something that may or may not have been a bacteria-like structure and so far it has been left there.
