Do you like sad endings in action films?

Yes. :( I like happy endings in everything. I know that sad endings sometimes fit the storyline and make a movie more poignant. So I guess I'm okay with them, sometimes. But mostly I like to live in happyland. :yay:

I thought it was pretty ballsy to have Kate Beckinsale's character die at the end of Van Helsing.

it was unexpected but it didnt help the fim in any way .

As long as the ending fits in the movie.

Like Memento can have no other ending, Oldboy either. But sometimes the ending is just tacked on to cause talk (The Mist) or just stupid.

The ending wasn't tacked on just to cause controversy. It was tacked on because it fit the rest of the film to a tee.

The ending to The Mist was perfect.

Edit: To avoid having to post it later, it was miles better than the non ending in the short story, and one that King himself curses himself for not thinking of- he praised the new ending up and down. And it's not like King is usually kind to movies that depart from his source material- Look at how he has disowned Kubrick's Shining. The new ending to the Mist fits the rest of the film perfectly, and sums up the hopelessness, horror, and utter lack of faith in the human condition that's running throughout the entire story in a single moment. Yes, the last word of the short story is "hope," and the last few pages in general are about not giving up. But the rest of the story is translated pretty damn accurately to the screen, and that "sort of hopeful" original ending never fit in the first place.

What he said.

Love sad endings, but then that might tie into my love of independent and foreign films. Right now I'm really in love with Casshern because it turns the superhero thing on it's head and then the ending's pretty devastating and uplifting at the same time. Their way of life carried out to it's logical end and they find their peace.

For me, Oldboy has one of the most shocking endings to a film which I've seen.

Especially when the tape is played.

Ew.

Is happy land down the road from pleasentville?

It depends on the movie, some movies should have sad ending, while others need happy endings. Rocky is a good example, it's a bittersweet ending, Rocky goes the distance, but still loses the fight and it works really well that way.

Superman movies always end well with Supes flying over Earth

Great happy endings.

It depends on whether the film earns it or not. People like to have sad endings because they think it adds depth, but it doesn't if you haven't earned it, it just pisses people off.

i was sad at the end of 300 , even with the knowledge of it coming . i think it is good for an ation film to have some drama to lend towards credibility . sometimes death is cliche in action films to the point of it being ineffective.
the best friend usually gets killed alot.

I thought that ending was so well done, IMHO it is one of the best done sad endings I have watched, when he was calling out "My Queen, My Wife, My Love", and then looked up, that was heartbreaking, but very well done, another couple of good ones are Seven and Man on Fire

I like happy endings as well, I go to the movies to enjoy myself, but sometimes a sad ending fits it depends on the story and tone of the film.

^That movie truly freaked me out at that end. I agree...best sad ending.

Depends, in the case of Alien 3 my answer is no. Not only because Ripley dies but because they killed off Newt and Hicks, as well as Bishop in the first 10 minutes which really ticks me off.

That's the main reason that movie is the worst piece of ***** I've ever seen. :cmad:
