Do you think the Pirates sequels should have been made?

Was it worth it?

  • YES!!! The only thing better than more pirate movies is more rum!

  • NO! They ruined the ending of the first one with inferior sequels.

  • I don't care and I don't care about these movies.

  • What's a pirate?

Well that ending as Joker describered, sucked. IMO. It was trying to go for moving or profound but these movies are originally supposed to be Erroyl Flynn-styled swashbuckling fun with the Indiana Jones sense of humor and Depp's self-deprecating performance.

It tried to become an epic LOTR meloncholy ending but it was too downbeat. It didn't work. Also, Jack losing the Pearl and the criminal misuse of Norringotn in the third installment was all disappointing.

Watch the end of COTBP and it is SOOOO satisfying. It jsut brings a smile to your face with uncharted adventure ahead and seeing him get the ship back and the way everyone gets a fina lbow (except Barbossa for obvious reasons) was gratifying. Did AWE capture that feeling? No. It was just meh. These sequels are more Matrix akin to me, really.

Jack didn't "lose" the pearl...yes, Barbossa stole it back, but at this point it seems to be a game these 2 are playing with each other. Barbossa steals it, Jack gets it back, rinse, repeat. And it's not like Jack didn't get the last laugh, stealing Barbossas map and such. So for him, it's not a perfect ending, but it's not really a down ending either. And yes, Will and Elizabeths end was bittersweet at best, but that's how life is. Yes, I'm aware it's a movie about pirates fighting an incredibly exxagerated east india trading corporation who's taken control of a fish man and involves a sea goddess...but some things need to be done to ground it so you can actually feel for the characters, and that's what I feel Will and Elizabeths ending did.

I think that even more sequels could actually be done, each being stand alone this time, focusing on Jack's attempts to regain the Pearl and live forever.

i am glad they made sequels. both of them were awesome. good stories, fun to watch. i hope they'll make 2 more so we see a history of jack, barbossa and pearl and their quest for the fountain of youth.

lol Love that more rum! I voted yes of course lol.

What is Pirates lol.

I too was taken back by the end of AWE with Will and Liz. I thought that he could only come on land once every 10 years, forever(though why Liz couldn't just live on the Dutchmen I don't know), but once I got home I read a bunch of people saying that it was only for 10 years, and that Davey Jones was a "special" curse because that woman ****ed him over. But I don't really remember anything of that nature, other than the lines about her breaking his heart. But I never caught on to anything suggesting that the original curse is just 10 years and then as long as your love is there you go free. That's actually pretty ****ing stupid.

Yeah Will & Elizabeth's ending was crap. I didn't mind Jack & Barbossa's endings - Jack losing the pearl wasn't too bad as he had got away with the map. Norrington was definitely not used properly. The pirate lords also didn't really do much. I thought they'd be getting involved in that battle at the end but all those ships from both sides weren't involved at all.

Certainly nowhere near as bad and disappointing as Matrix Revolutions though.

I thought the sequels shouldn't have been made, because it ruins a joyous and fun movie (CotBP) with more of the same (DMC and AWE).

But on the other hand, they were enjoyable if derivative, but far too complicated for their own good.

I say hell yes they were worth it like L.O.T.R, Harry Potter and Now Pirates its a nice change to have a frnachise not a comic book movie. Though i love X-Men Batman and so on as films but a movie like Rings and Pirates is nice change. I say more Pirates the better. Do they have to be the same characters no but Jack Sparrow and Barbossa can't eb replaced unless you went back to when Calypso was imprisoned with the first PIrate Court or Prequel films about jack and Barbossa. For i say 3 should end this series. But i want more Potter and More Pirates. Heck bring on The Hobbit.

I don't really care, the Pirate movies never have excited me much:dry:

This decade has kind of been the decade of trilogy slightly downer endings. Look at Matrix Revolusions, Spider-Man 3, LOTR Return of The King, X3, and so on.

Hollywood seems to no longer feel the need to tie up the charcters in a neat little bow. In threequels charcaters die and the hero doesn't ride off in to the sunset.

With the love I have of CotBP I wanted sequels from the time I saw it. I love all three.

If other crap ass movies can get sequels then Pirates was way more then deserving and the sequels are awesome.

The first one, is always going to be my favourite, but I'm glad they made sequels because they all stand out in there own way and they all have good qualities about them.

The first one was great, the second one was good, the third one was ehh haven't i seen this before???

wtf?? The 3rd lord of the rings was the best one of the trilogy!

No, after watching both sequels I made it sure for myself that there was no need in them.

The first was great. The second had it's moments. Third was one of the worst movies ever made. They didn't even seem like they tried to make it good. They probably figured, "well, the first two made tons of money, we have no idea what to do for a third. Let's just make it up as we go along, people are still gonna watch it." The Result? Biggest worldwide box office opening ever. Peter Travers from Rolling Stone was right. It wasn't a movie, it was a business proposition. Studios could make a complete piece of crap, and with the right marketing, make one of the biggest hits ever.

Yes..many PotC sequels should be made....but not with the angle they took!

the sequels we got shouldn't have happened, especially the 3rd (what a fing train wreck).

but there is still plenty of opportunity with this franchise.

I would have prefered if they weren't made back to back and had their own stories. But oh well, I do not think that they were needed, but I also don't think they ruined the first one.

The only sequel that has ever ruined its predecessors was X men 3. for me anyway.

and hey, the Pirates sequels weren't as bad as the Matrix ones. Those were unnecessary.

I don't think i fit into any of the catagories. I loved the first one, was bored to death by the second one and felt the last one was good in parts. I don't wish they hadn't made them but maybe it would have been better to keep the first as the wonderful film it was. The third one felt like they realised johnny is what sold the movie needed to get him in it more so hey presto a ship full of jacks which lets face it they were right.

The shipful of Jacks was to show how the Locker was addling his brain.
