The Avengers Do you think they did your fav AVENGER justice?

Iron Man was definitely done justice. Also, one of my other favorites, the Hulk finally was done extremely well in my opinion! His appearance in the Avengers far exceeded the crappiness that was the first two movies.

After this movie, if the same thread is created for the Avengers 2 in 2015 (?), then the Hulk is a serious contender for my Best Avenger spot.

I can't even choose a favorite Avenger.

They were all my favorites in this movie.

I agree with what Shadowlord X said about your post. Well said. Especially about Whedon avoiding spoon feeding. If I imagine the scene between Tony and Steve about Coulson taking place in panel of a comic book, its meaning wouldn't have been lost on me. I just didn't expect this from a movie and missed its point (makes me revile that reviewer who claimed Joss Whedon is the next Michael Bay even more)

If there are things that Joss is good at, it's subtleties. I would have loved to see them collaborating while they planned how to make each hero shine and hear this sort of discussion take place.

Congratulations, you've convinced me  This is what I love about forums: open, honest discussion (especially if it doesn't resort to trolling and flaming.. Reminds me of when this place was just called "Spidermanhype" Those were the days) --You get different viewpoints that can enhance your own point of view.

Wow! I have just gained tremendous respect for you.

As a Hulk/Banner fan I dont think i could rightly complain at all that he wasnt done justice. Was surprised how much they played up Banners smarts/science wizzery. Thought they might give Hulk more of a persona/speaking role but in terms of power and having big scene-stealing moments you couldnt ask for more.

You sir are a good man, your calm and open attitude will take you far. It's a pleasure to discuss The Avengers with you :)
you too Shadowlord

My problem was that Cap wasn't special enough. I think he was written well but action wise so so again. Even in Cap America I wasn't impressed by anything he did. I think they needed a better fight choreographer for cap. As someone said he seemed no different then Hawkeye or BW. I got no sense that this man had increased strength speed and agility. Never did i hear he survived frozen in ice because of the Serum. The movie was great but Cap's powers were so so.

I can see where you are coming from, but I have a feeling that if you watch the movie again, this time focusing in Cap, you will see his action is actually pretty sweet. It's just easy to miss the first time when Hulk is smashing and Thor is lightening and Iron Man is blowing stuff up. Watch it again!

Yes this should be mandatory for all fanboys and fan girls. One ought to maintain an open mind and allow for the benefit of the doubt during a debate. It's more civil, respectful and simply logical. I find it unfortunate that more people are intent on throwing cans of worms everywhere they pleased just for the sake of screening their caveman speak across the Internet. No offence intended. ;)

Anyway, yes, Whedon is known for its subtleties. He rewards you immensely, over and over, in the long run than if you watched it for the first time and that that was it for you.

The reviewer who pigeonholed Whedon to be the next Michael Bay is selling him severely short, I'm afraid.

I thought he seemed pretty darn agile, though he never did appear all that "superstrong" in this, save for a few key moments. Seemed more evenly matched strengthwise with The Chitauri than the forces of Hydra.

There were definitely instances of showing his superstrength

-The whole punching bag scene served to establish Cap's strength. Those bags are well over 200 lbs of dead weight, and he punched one across the room, and lifted up another with one arm

-He forces open that highly sealed blast door when snooping around the Helicarrier

-Throws a SHIELD agent off the Helicarrier with one hand, and makes it look easy

-In the bank hostage situation, he easily throws a Chituari solider off the railing

-Punches the entire jaw off a soldier, in the part where his reflection is shown in the mirror

-When Hawkeye and BW are starting to get in trouble, Cap jumps down and knocks down 2 soldiers at once with his shield

-Pushed BW up to the Chituari vehicle, I doubt a normal man could throw a 150 lb object up that high

That's all I remember right now, there could be more. Point is, he looked pretty strong to me

Cap is my favorite Avenger, so yeah, I think they definitely did him justice. The fact that he apparently had a lot of stuff cut from the movie and still had more screentime than pretty much any other Avenger tells me that this was definitely Cap's movie, and that Whedon gets him. I figure most of the stuff that was cut was more just for time concerns than anything else.

Yep, Cap definitely was the forefront of the movie, along with Iron Man. Whedon did say that the Avengers is gonna be from Caps point if view after all. Can't wait to see the deleted scenes. There is at least one action sequence of him, as that shot of him throwing the shield towards the camera was never shown in the film

He initially said that, but then shifted the perspective from Cap to the entire team....the final cut was far less Cap centric. A lot of scenes regarding Cap and his adjustment to the real world were cut.

Cap was my favorite and it was great seeing him giving orders and leading the team at the end and assuming that role since none of the others really seemed to. I really liked his germany line to Loki and I wish we would of gotten more of those moments with cap. I feel like thor got the shaft a tad in terms of meaningful dialogue outside of his fight with ironman, the rest of the movie he was just there summoning lighting and fighting with hulk.

It would have made the movie 5X more interesting too see it from caps perspective. Wouldve lead to so many interesting ideas with interactions with the other heroes.

Possibly, but I think they're saving that whole story/those ideas for Cap 2. Avengers wasn't supposed to be a Cap story...it's an interesting angle but in the end didn't serve the purpose of the film as a whole.

I agree. TA shouldn't have been any one character's story. It was every character's story. Just like how originally the idea was to try and have Tony be the focal point, the driving force of the story...it just didn't work. The story belonged to all of the characters.

yeah but it would of made it feel a bit more natural then the approach they took of every already knew each other vibe. When tony met Cap in germany they greated each other like oh hey whats up. I can see stark and banner having that knowing each other thing going on but cap and thor had never met them before. plus correct me if Im wrong but Ironman and cap hadnt even met up until that point and how did cap know who stark was in such little time? See where Im going with this? wouldnt it have been a great leeway into some meaningful dialogue with those 2 prior to thor coming and snatching loki away?

Also in X-men one it was told from logans point of view and that turned out pretty well. Now X2 and X3 went alittle too logan heavy though.

The entire series was a Logan arc....moreso the first two films. And, to be honest, that was something I disliked about the X-Men series. Too focused on one character when the X-Men are a team-based entity. Same thing with the Avengers; when you dwell too much on one character, story anchor or not, you risk taking away time from the other characters, and that, imo, would have disappointed fans....especially so with Avengers.

That was definitely a more pronounced problem with the X-men trilogy than it was in Avengers. In all honesty I think First Class, while easily being the best X-men film to me personally, was also a bit more successful as an ensemble film than Avengers IMO, particularly because I think a whole lot more of those characters had arcs that felt more substantial as opposed to Avengers, even though what we did get, especially in terms of the Stark/Cap dynamic, was well done.

Avengers is probably the greatest comic book film ever in the action department, or close to it, but First Class still had it's fair share of action, along with laughs, while still maintaining a bit more of a serious tone without being dark at all. A very treacherous tightrope to walk, and I think they did it in style.

First Class definitely deserves any praise it gets, but it doesn't get any bigger than The Earths Mightiest Heroes, and the world seems to agree, according to the universal phenomenon this film has become. Everywhere I go, everyone I know, people can't stop talking about the Avengers. It's awesome

They were debriefed separately, Iron Man with the package he got from Coulson and Cap with the info Fury left at his apartment. Cap even mentions to Iron Man later... ''I watched the footage, you're not the guy to lay down on the wire, etc.'' So, I think their introduction fits considering they researched each other but didn't know each other at all.

Hulk, eventhough he only got abot 5 mins of total screentime...he definitely got done right!

This is just a small nit pick and I know that from a story standpoint it made all the sense in the world to have Ironman in the air most of the time shooting chitauri chariots down. But I wanted to see at least one moment of ironman landing and punching a bunch of those aliens like he did with the terrorists in IM 1. Although I'm sure we'll see plenty of that in IM 3 I still wanted to see him punching chitauris.
