I have a junior membership in the Electrolytes club, myself :) I like him a lot.

I think a lot of people do not take Electro all that seriously; most of those are people who have NOT read the 'oft-mentioned Castro S6 novels. They see that lightningbolt mask and that's all they can think about, how stupid they think that looks. Now were he to be in a film, suddenly we would be overrun with people claiming to think he was the greatest thing since sliced bread... bah!

Don't think that Sparky gets no love from anybody, that's totally false. Any mad-dog killer like that who's on a power-level with Magneto, you just have to at least respect him if not love him. I think he's one of Spidey's most interesting villains ever, and I have NEVER, never seen anyone whose powers I envied more. I envy those powers more than I do Carnage's, and that is saying something.

100% true! You get a lot of kiddies not giving Electro respect because of his mask. I can remember posts on the hype with people (alright little n00bs) are Electro's stupid because of how he looks. If he were to get on screen these opinions would change yes.

And yes, he's on power with Magneto, so why won't writers wake up and realise that? The only time we've seen him that powerfull is the arc where he became that powerful. How disapointing.

Still, thanks for the cheer up :)

[Apologies in advance for this mini-hijack of Ock's thread... I promise I am about to be done with this discussion of his most powerful minion of the Six....]

Electro UK sez: "And yes, he's on power with Magneto, so why won't writers wake up and realise that? The only time we've seen him that powerfull is the arc where he became that powerful. How disapointing."

I was quite pleased with his performance in issues 1-12 of the Marvel Knights run: Electro was truly kicking some ass; I think that bodes well for the character in general. But that's Millar for you - he generally likes villains and therefore is less inclined to make idiots out of them. [we will leave discussion of what Millar did to Venom for another time]

I was thrilled with what Electro was doing in Nude Avengers, until Bendis promptly derailed that....! he went from a god to a 5-year old in like, less than 10 pages. Infuriating! god, do i hate Bendis.

Electro has powered up a lot in the past few years. I hope this trend continues.

Taking this back on subject-track: After a lot of waffling and infighting and head-scratching about how I wanted to portray Ock, I have finally figured it out. Unfortunately Armani-suit Ock will not be appearing in my artwork at this time; he's totally evading me, and so is Ultimate [although I am far from done trying to figure out how best to portray that particular hunk of burning manhood - far from it. Hottest Ultimate villain ever]. I like to work from photographic reference, so that is what I will be doing: I am using a picture of Molina as my basis & will go from there. Not that anyone CARES about this, mind you, its just that I promised Ock I would do this and I am by-god gonna do it! Plus its serving to distract me from the truly awful academic pressure I am under right now. Comics are such a great escape from that.

Preliminary scan soon.

As I told you before Sym,whichever style of Ock you choose is cool with me.Movie Ock,is one of the coolest looking versions of Octavius ever.So I am major hyped to see it

I look forward to seeing this preliminary scan.I am very eager to see what pose you have him in.I always love pics of Ock looking cool and calm, you know like the clock tower pic.

He's not doing anything exactly in it.He's just standing there looking out over the city from atop the clock tower. And he looks so friggin cool doing it.

Now that's an awesome villain.Knocking your socks off visually,by just standing there.

Btw the Hype is acting reeeeeeeeeeally wierd today.

IF Electro didn't look like he had a facial explosion with that lightning bolt mask, i'd probably take him a bit more seriously ;)

I really liked Dillon's costume in the Marvel Knights arc. The lightning bolts around his face only flared out when he activated his powers, which I thought was a pretty ingenius way to keep him from looking like a little ray of sunshine all the time. :)

That's the thing about him: he's badass just by showing up. No hyperbole required. Not even GG could match that, and I am one of those freaks who liked the movie armor. I liked it, and I thought and still think GG is awesome. But even he does not have the commanding presence Molina's Ock did. GG had to blow out walls to get people screaming. Ock had to what, throw a car and... just show up. He doesn't even threaten people in that MJ-kidnap scene, and everyone's practically losing control of their bladders.

I should have something to show you all by mid-week. This is the first time I've gotten this far, I kept flipping through all the pix I saved that were posted here, and finally decided "this is the one".... the design just coalesced in my head, we'll see what happens. I still have two symbiote-related pictures to finish... I just needed a break. Those will eventually get done.

[Electro looks like "a little ray of sunshine"... LMAO :D]

Exactly. The mere sight of Ock in the movie commanded your attention.

And as I said before,I loved the whole T-Rex shaking thing they did whenever Ock was approaching on his tentacles.Especially in the cafe scene.Peter and MJ look out and see everyone frozen still listening as the ground shakes. Then we see people running and screaming in terror.

I only wish we could have seen Ock strutting down the street on his tentacles, like some pissed off King Kong :D

Excellent

I shall be eagerly watching out for this pic.Don't keep us in suspense for too long ;)

Venom_uk just went home.Just dropped him off at the airport.I miss him already :( We had such a great time. We'll do it again soon buddy

Too be honest I think it was for the best I came home today....if I'd stayed any longer my Debit Card would have exploded! :p

Hehe. I kid, I kid. I had a really good time. Ock & his family where great with me & Ireland is a pretty cool place. Hell, it has four comic shops after all! lol
Hopfully next time I go over Ock will have a car or something...my lil legs weren't made for walking damn it! :p

You do realize that now that we've been waiting with baited breath for so long, it had better be an orgasmic drawing. ;)

I'll say.

If you'd bought that Fearsome Foes set,it might have exploded lol

Ummm you do know those were not the all the comic shops in Ireland.Just in my area :p

But yeah they are all great stores. And lethal on the wallet.I thought I had escaped one, without buying anything, and then I spot this absolutely AWESOME Joker bust in the window.Venom_uk,spotting my weakness, urged me to get it :O

Hopfully next time I go over Ock will have a car or something...my lil legs weren't made for walking damn it!

Oh you lazy git lol.The longest walk we had was about 15 minutes long :p

Thtat it? I do double that a 8:00 every morning ya lazy bugger! :p

But seriously, sounds like you two had fun. I get more and more jealous of Doc Ock's comic book stores by the second. Only one near me closed down the other week :(

Haha. Yeah, after this weekend I'm giving the poor guy a well deserved rest.
How much was that Fearsome Foes boxset anyway? I don't remember seeing a price on it. lol

I didn't wanna be the only one blowing my money on comic stuff. It's only fair I rope you into doing the same. After all, what are friends for? :D

Yeah, 15 minutes too bloody long if you ask me! :p lol

It had better be an orgasmic drawing...?! Gee, feel any pressure? Not me! :D Seriously, showing you Octavians this feeble scribbling is SCARY enough! - feel free to tighten the thumbscrews a few revolutions, why dont'cha. LOL

Okay, I took this:

... and ran with it. This is NOWHERE NEAR done, the backround has not been filled in, and when its finished I'll have to take a digital picture, because this thing is huge, not all of it fits on the scanner - as you can see.

127877618.jpg

You may notice in the original photo [which I DO wish was bigger], he's looking downward. I shifted his gaze to the viewer, and yes he will have the whited-out, "x-ray eyes" thing going on. The tritium-sample will be half metal, half miniature fusion "sun" with the arcs coming off it, etc. Suggestions? Complaints? LMK.

I may also add the macerated flesh around the eyes a la Ultimate, just because I think that was such an awesome look... not decided yet.

Sorry about two posts here, but as USUAL it took me ten minutes to get that post above to generate and I don't dare try to "edit" because that is just begging for a 20-minuute session in Frozen-Post Purgatory. Well over half the time, lately, on the relatively rare occasions when I DO want to sign in and say something, I get so effing fed up with hitting "log in" or "reply" and then waiting ten minutes that I end up leaving in disgust. And I mean literally ten minutes. I am a type-A personality and that kind of thing is tough on the constitution.

Ok so it's not just me this friggin site freezes up on!!

Sym that is awesome

What a great pic to take inspiration from.I really love those style of shades he wore in the bank scene. So having them in your pic is a big plus.

I really have no criticisms for this.Dead on likeness to Molina there.I like the set up for the pic,Ock holding a vial of tritium.Very cool.

One question though,How much of the tentacles is in this pic?? You said this is not the whole pic,so I'm just curious are you doing anything with them, like having one snaking around the tritium for example.

Go sym, i think the Big S will be proud of this :)

I like it lots, no crits right now from here, but I know they will come up a little later.

Let me know when you do more of the background, i'm intrigued. :)

Very nice sketch Sym

Ock, did you beat that Spidey game you told me about before?

YES that is going to happen, the tentacle will be in the foreground coming over his shoulder, it snakes out of the picture and then you'll see it holding the globe, coming in from the top [probably]. From somewheres, anyways.

It will definitely be in there! Can't have Ock without 'em. I always do the person first, tinker around with that, get that as right as possible and *then* put in the difficult stuff like hardware, just in case disaster strikes and I have to erase the whole person and start over [it has happened before!]. That space between his face and the globe will be mostly filled in, promise.

Lots of fun special-effects with this one, I'm looking forward to it. Thanks, guys. :)

Sym, I'm impressed. I've never been one to capture photo realism in my drawings. Everyone I draw is cartoon-ified to a degree, but you've captured Molina down on paper and that's pretty damn awe-inspiring. Continue running with your idea. My only crit? It looks to me like his neck is a little too straight up and down and makes his pose look uncomfortabley posed, as if he is touching his chin down to his neck. If that doesn't make sense, try to imagine how skinny his neck is under that collar and maybe you'll see what I'm seeing? I'm not sure if the edge of the paper is indeed right where we see it online, but I would consider making the slant of that collar a little less steep.

Other than that, rock on my fellow arteest. Splendid job!

Yep I finished it last night. Not the hardest game in the world, but great fun to play :)

I wasn't sure if you were just using the contents of that pic or not,but I'm delighted you're adding your own touches to it.

Ock does indeed need his tentacles. They are his precious pets.

That space between his face and the globe will be mostly filled in, promise.

Lots of fun special-effects with this one, I'm looking forward to it. Thanks, guys. :)

I'm glad you're filling in the space.I was going to ask where his setting is,but now I don't want to know.I want to be surprised :)

Once again,it's looking great Sym.Can't wait to see the final product.

S, your observation is correct & your suggestion is worthy, so I'll be changing that part of the drawing. I'll rescan Thursday, this time from the actual edge of the paper, so everone can see how his neck and shoulders are really set. From what I can see, Molina must have had his head turned pretty far to the side - some shading will help enhance that concept, too.

Thanks again to everyone for your kind comments; this guy is definitely a challenge to draw. However, stretching one's boundaries is good. :)
