Doctor Who - Not a Hugging Type of Thread - Part 19

Actually 3 seasons is a good amount to get comfortable in the role

-1st year introduce the doctor. Work out all the spots that need to be ironed out

-2nd year get more comfortable. The previous doctor's era is slowly fading away or almost all gone.

-3rd year. The actor is comfortable and has made it his own.

We really get a beginning, middle and end.

It's also best for telling a story that's unique to that Doctor, and being able to tell if well with a definite end.

Tennant and Smith's stories wouldn't work if they had continued on.

David Tennant's could have worked but Matt Smith's would have become too drawn-out. Some plot threads were left hanging too long as it was, whilst others that really didn't need addressing - such as what was in the Doctor's room in The God Complex - were answered.

Ben Daniels was on the shortlist as the next Doctor when Matt Smith left.

I enjoyed Daniels as General Merrick in Star Wars Rogue One and Father Marcus on Fox Exorcist sequel series.

He was the guy they were going to go with if Capaldi said no, yeah. I think he'd have been wonderful.

I'm hoping they go with Paterson Joseph for 13. He was rumoured to be up for the role back when Smith was cast, and I've kinda wanted it ever since. Although he is doing Timeless at the moment (which is also time travel, coincidentally)

Another actor I think would be great is hello to Jason Isaacs, but I don't think he'd do it.

Jason Isaacs would be amazing as The Doctor but then again he is great in everything I've seen him in.

Today a fan was punched by an autograph dealer whilst trying to get David Tennant's autograph. The man was left shaken by the encounter and believes it was his last opportunity to tell Mr Tennant how much he had been inspired by him to take up acting.

As the Whovian community we all need to come together and try to ensure this poor man gets his chance to tell his idol how much he means to him - because why should a cruel autograph dealer motivated by his own financial gain spoil it for a genuine fan of the show?

I am going to start a petition at some point. It would be nice if we could try and help right this.

New trailer

I'm so glad we're back to April for the premiere. Hopefully they can get this ship back on course and we return to pre season 6 airing schedule.

So the bookies are making Kris Marshall the favourite for the next Doctor atm.

Not a bad choice imo. He was good in Death in Paradise and can handle drama and comedy well. And they'd finally have a punchline to the running 'ginger' joke.

One firm isn't taking bets on him anymore suggesting they are confident, but I wouldn't take that to the bank.

Finale villains confirmed. Mondasians at last

Twelve- The Doctor will see you now!

I guess you can call this "Cyber Monday"

Finally, I've been waiting the entire run of the series for the cybermen to show up!

Although I'm over Moffat's tenure, I do hope he goes out on a strong note.

Sadly nothing from any of these trailers have made me even slightly interested in the new season.

I think she feels like a step back in terms of going for season 1 Rose.

They should have changed the dynamic like a mother/son or brother/sister.

If she's just a one off to tie up 12's tenure then I won't mind.

From the indications, she will be just for the season and not returning.

Probably to let the new show runner do their things. For me she has a tough act to follow. I loved Amy and Clara completely. Both leaving broke me a bit. I like what I see in the newer trailers, she seems fun, but she also feels very generic at the same time.

knowing this is his final season I am fine with her being an one off (so to speak) as rather I like her dynamic with this Doctor or not, I think it would make it harder for me to accept her with a different Doctor

I didn't care that much for Capaldi at first but after the Missy episodes, his awesome anti-war speech to the fake Clara Zygon, and Heaven Sent/Hell Bent, I kinda don't want him to leave now.

Missy is going to be back for his finale, too.

I wonder how they are going to have Capaldi regenerate?

Maybe Capaldi wants another the Master caused the regeneration like in the old series.

I recently re-watched all the "new" seasons from Eccleson to Capaldi. My 10 year old daughter started out being in the room when they were on, doing her own thing, to asking every day after she got out of school "Are we watching some Who today?" Her favorite Doctor is Matt Smith. Surprisingly, her second favorite is Capaldi. She absolutely adores Clara. I recently had to buy her a Clara action figure and a Tardis that it can stand by. Last weekend we went to her first comic con....the highlight of it for her was they had a life size TARDIS and a life size Dalek that she got her picture taken with. She is wanting to watch more WHO so much that I got out my 3 DVD box of the very first 3 WHO adventures starring Hartnell. We just finished the first adventure AN UNEARTHLY CHILD and she liked it. I honestly didn't think she would go for it because it was in black and white and not as flashy and quick as the newer ones are....but she liked it. Looks like I'm going to have start looking for more DVDs. As she says now....."I'm a Whovian....and I want some new adventures."
