Doctor Who - Not a Hugging Type of Thread

You know what's crazy about Sally Armstrong? We don't really know if the Master hypnotized her. For all we know, he might have a genuinely evil mad scientist lady companion. There wasn't any indication of where her morality lied in her original timeline; we just knew she was a scientist who was being used to lure the Doctor into a trap.

I could be wrong, though. I should probably re-listen to the first two Dark Eyes sets.


On a whole 'nother note, I finally listened to "Signs and Wonders" a few days ago, and that ending really got to me. It was beautiful and sad, and it really made me wonder if Big Finish would be retiring the old 7th Doctor/Ace team for a while. Next year's 7th Doctor trilogy will feature Mel, and he's probably got more adventures with Elizabeth to explore.

I loved that episode. Honestly believe it is one of the best things Doctor Who has done. Capaldi was given the floor and the plot was streamlined and engaging. Second only to Listen.

Train settings are always a good time, case in point From Russia With Love. They provide a leisurely, luxurious ambience. When you mix in a mystery and a riddle to solve, it's a wonderful mix.

Well, Mummy on the Orient Express easily surpasses Robots of Sherwood, Time Heist and the Caretaker as the best episode of the Capaldi era.

I didn't comment on KILL THE MOON because there was far more that rubbed me wrong about it than any Capaldi episode so far...

As for this episode? Enjoyable but I can't say it blew up my skirt. I also think that this easily could have been Clara free and still work as a complete story. I really wasn't expecting Clara for a few episodes afterKILL THE MOON. Capaldi is what made the whole thing work though for sure. I think Capaldi should do more of the Doctor arguing with himself. Interesting but, I don't remember seeing any of Missy or the "Nether sphere" this time. With all the death this episode you'd think we would have gotten some more of her (another reason that Clara perhaps should have sat this trip out. They could have allotted some time to further that obviously important sub plot.

Episode was alright. I didn't feel the need to have Clara in this episode. I feel her character didn't really make a smooth transition from being angry at the Doctor to being ecstatic to be with him.

I really liked the sci fi/mystery bits of this episode. Clara's change of heart was kind of weird, though. This whole emotional rollercoaster she's on is kind of damaging her likability for me. She's coming off much less like the canny, clever woman she started out as and more like a naive child. Yes, the Doctor lies and makes difficult decisions with other people's lives. You already knew this from the dozen other life-threatening situations you've been in with him, Clara. Although Capaldi's Doctor is showing a bit of a harder edge in these last couple episodes than we saw up to now, too. I wonder if they're trying to imply that this regeneration is borderline sociopathic in his alien-ness. He doesn't seem to be able to comprehend human reactions in the slightest sometimes.

At the end of the Big Bang the Doctor got a phone call about an 'Egyptian Goddess' being on the loose on 'the Orient Express in Space'.

In this episode 12 mentions the Computer thing in this one behind trying to snag the mummy/soldier had tried to lure him before into going there (first with 'free tickets' and then from somehow phoning him).
