Comics Doesn't anyone else read Spider-Girl??

I'm singing the ol' Ren and Stimpy song: "HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY, HAPPY HAPPY JOY!!!" What great way to end the year, and great stories to look forward to! Thank you Jesus!!!

I have not been reading any Spider-Girl Comics since few years ago, but just wonder If Scarlet Spider (Girl...whatever name is) still around later or whatever happen?
The Scarlet-Spider you're referring to is none other than Felicity Hardy, the daugther of Felicia Hardy, and Flash Thompson. She's still a character in the book, but she hasn't been seen in a while though. I'm sure she'll be back to bother May in the future though!

Note that one of the people posting to that thread says he plans to write Marvel to ask them to take Tom off the book. I think we should write Marvel to say we want Tom on Spider-Girl as long as he wants to keep writing it.

I wonder if this guy is the same jerk who posts under Tom's name on the Spider-Girl board.

If it were up to a certain group of direct market readers, Spider-Girl would have been gone a long time ago. That she lives now and will live long into the future is a testament to the dedication, love and belief in the book by the creators and the fans who never gave up on a book that Marvel has tried to cancel a number of times. To discard any of that just to placate a couple of people who had no part in her longevity would be a repulsive injustice to me. NOBODY gets left behind. Especially Tom.

Exactly, Spider-Girl lives because we, the fans have supported the book, AND the creative team wit it. So i'm not at all worried about someone's disinterest in the current creative duo of Tom De Falco, Pat Olliffe, and Ron Frenz.

I don't mean to cause a panic. There is absolutely nothing to indicate Marvel plans to take Tom off the book, but they could and after 100 issues some idiot may get the idea it would be a good time to bring in a new creative team and score some more publicity from the milestone. Would it be a stupid thing to do? Yep. But I stopped reading Spider-Man because Marvel keeps doing stupid things with the character. Most of what Marvel has been doing in the last three years qualifies as stupid things, but unfortunately a lot of those stupid things have been profitable.

I just want to suggest now is a time for some subtle but positive reinforcement. Thank the powers that be for letting Spider-Girl reach this milestone, while praising Tom, Ron and Sal to high heaven. I don't want people writing in to say, "If you fire DeFalco I'm dropping the book!" That's the wrong attitude.

This is the time for honey. We'll save the vinegar until it's needed. And let's hope it's not!

Hi, Guys!

While it's true that Spider-Girl has just been renewed past Issue #100 and will be published throughout 2006...NO BOOK is ever completely safe from cancellation.

Sales on the monthly book have been drifting downward...and that's not a good sign.

I think Ron and Sal have done some pretty great covers, but the retailers aren't responding...and that's not a good sign.

The Digests are doing extremely well. Last Hero Standing sold very well...but neither of these things seems to be translating into increased sales for Spider-Girl...and that's not a good sign.

The gang and I are determined to kick up the excitment and do our best to make Spider-Girl a must read for anyone who likes comics. It's our goal to get more people reading this book...and we could use all the help you can give us.

Tell everyone you know about Spider-Girl and please encourage them to try the book. We need to increase sales because...that would be a good sign.

Thanks for being there!
Tom D.

I dunno why more people ain't pickin' it up. It's way better than any Spidey title. One ass I know says th' way th' captions are done annoys him so he refuses to read it. Lame-ass reason if ya ask me.

When i hear excuses like these, that usually means that they have NEVER read the book. Because what in the Sam Hill does the capitons have to do with the artwork, or story for that matter?

I quote "Let me get this straight, you're suggesting I buy a comic whose story is made up of roughly 70-80% narration, and skip the narration? It's bad writing, in my opinion. And I won't read it."

I enjoy reading Spider-Girl comics than almost any Spider-Man titles, but I stop buying them for little while because money shortage until this year, but I'm having trouble find Spider-Girl comics since all stores don't have 'em. Look like I'm going have to subscribe it.

Oh no. We may be in the clear for now but things don't sound too good. Us Spider-Girl readers need to really start passing the word along strong. Maybe give the book some new readership that it deserves. :o

Sounds like the comic shops in your area sell out of Spider-Girl almost immediately, but never increase their order. That appears to be common. Tom DeFalco says it's true even of the comic shop in his neighborhood!

If the comic shops have a pull-and-hold service (most do), ask one to hold an issue of Spider-Girl for you every month. Getting a subscription from Marvel is fine, too.

But the first thing you should do is walk into every comic shop you visit and ask, "Why don't you carry Spider-Girl?" Then report the answers here.

Yeah, distribution in my area has been down. I've complained a few times wearing assorted cross culutural hats and shady sunglasses, but I think they've caught on.

You know, i also attribute the diaster in New Orleans to the fall in sales, because a lot of people were trying to aide those in need financially. We've gone through a great deal here in our nation, and we pooled all of our finances together to help out those victims of Katrina. I do believe that once things return to normal, (if it'll EVER be normal again..)- sales will pick back up.

Does anyone think that the Spider-Girl line might get cancled?I have not heard much from it in recent days.

It isn't in any danger of getting cancelled in the near future. I believe that Tom Defalco said in an interview, which I'm sure is somewhere in this thread, that the Spider-Girl book is safe from cancellation for now. Something along those lines.

Scroll up a little and you'll find the message Tom DeFalco posted on the Spider-Girl Message Board. He said Spider-Girl is safe through the end of 2006, but also noted that sales have been drifting downward since summer (it's in the 18,000s now. Had been holding steady in the 20,000s for about a year). So even though Spider-Girl seems to be safe for a full year, we need to help drive those monthly numbers up.

I still believe the lower sales are due to the state of emergency this nation has been in the past few months. People have been giving more, and that tends to cut into any extra monies they used to have before hand. I do want this comic to live on, and will continue to do my part to get the word out. If we can get the book back into the 20K-25K mark, we should hopefully be ok. (Hopefully!) If we're at 18K now, we have our work cut out for us, but i believe we can do it!
