Comics Doesn't anyone else read Spider-Girl??

Well Jarkoer, its' just me an' you bud! The discussion for issue 86 starts NOW!

Cool! Thanks! :)

Okay, #86 stuff --

Mayday and Moose's moment was really touching. Knowing Tom's situation really put a lump in my throat reading that. We've all had (or, unfortunately, will have) moments like that. There's nothing that can be said, but just having a friend around makes a big difference. Saw the previews to #89, and I can't wait to get back to Moose (and Sandra).

The story was really exciting. Ya had Mayday doing her thing at school all the while you're seeing Apox kicking everybody's butt, and you just knew that eventually those two would meet up. Good suspense work!!! Didn't particularly like the Hulk's monologue here. That was way too much personal info to be giving out during a fight scene, and it kinda slowed things down, but I guess the Hulk fans needed to know what was up with Banner in the MC2.

REALLY liked the way the F5 kids were introduced in the first couple of pages. Apox is a great villain for an issue, but I hope there's more going on than just trying to beat him up for a couple of issues. I'm really hoping we get to see more of the F5 kids to spice that up a bit, and maybe have some flashes back to Midtown because the action there is getting interesting too! Alyce being so protective of Jacob was really nice. Not sure if it was because Alyce is just being overly protective of her brother or if she and he had to go through some bad times on the playground when they were kids. I'd really like for them and Kristoff to play a big role in the next couple of issues.

LHS speculations --

Who's going to die? I think it's going to be Captain America. I think it has to be a Main Marvel Universe character for the new readers to get into it, and for it to be really meaningful and touching. Besides, have TWO shield-slingers in one reality is a little redundant. Could turn out to be American Dream or one of the Ladyhawks, though.

The villain? I think it's the Games Master (or whatever his name is), that Elder of the Universe? Every time the Marvel Universe gets into a big "all heroes" battle, that dude has been involved in some way every time going all the way back to Contest of Champions.

About Normie, I think the very first time he shows up with the Venom symbiote, it's gonna fall really hard on Spider-Girl. She's the one who's been telling everybody that Venom's dead. When everybody realizes that she's been lying ... hoo boy! Back to square one for her! (Not gonna comment on the "Wild Man's" situation, though, except to say that his lies will probably catch up with him too. Heh!)

And what's up with Brenda dissing the CEO of Oscorp? Maybe she's just trying to back up her man?

Hey, BSM!

Heard back from Tom. I think he's going to stay really coy about the whole Davida-Ladyhawk thing, and keep us guessing.

From his response, I think Gerry Drew is still alive. He might come back in a future issue. Gotta take that with a grain of salt, though. I asked him for a special Halloween issue with Morbius the Living Vampire a couple of years ago, and he gave me the same response. Still waiting on that one. Hee!

I think Kaine's going to be showing up again along with Agent Wheadon's group sometime in the future too. That's a bit more definite than the Gerry Drew thing. Especially since Brenda is still a part of that group. Hee! I wonder if Agent Wheadon will show up for Brenda and Norman's wedding? :)

I don't think Normie (he still Normie to me :D ) and Brenda are going to get married...unless Tom has told you they definitely are. I wish Darkdevil would appear more....but I will take Kaine too

Hey...who do you think will be the "Last Hero Standing"? I think Spider-Girl would be too predictable so probably it will be someone else

I love how Tom has the Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye in there...I don't like those developments over in that other universe (though I doubt Hawkeye will be dead for very long)

Naw, Tom didn't say anything about Normie and Brenda getting married. I think Venom will probably come between them in the end. :joker:

Might be Captain America who's left standing at the end. That boy can fight! I've got a weird mind. What if ... the last hero standing is the one who dies?

The last issue was phenomenal, imo. Can't tell you how cool it was for me to see that the FF will endure as an organization through their children. (not unlike Spider-Man enduring through Mayday)...

This book is SO under-rated it's just....criminal.

They can keep their alternate futures where the world is over-run by killer robots, or ruled by evil business conglomerates...

Me? I'll take MC2 as the PROPER Marvel Universe future any day.

It really was good stuff, and being that my youngest sister is a cancer survivor, it hit home with me as well. Also, i forgot all about Sandra! Was that her also on the cover of 89?

The story was really exciting. Ya had Mayday doing her thing at school all the while you're seeing Apox kicking everybody's butt, and you just knew that eventually those two would meet up. Good suspense work!!! Didn't particularly like the Hulk's monologue here. That was way too much personal info to be giving out during a fight scene, and it kinda slowed things down, but I guess the Hulk fans needed to know what was up with Banner in the MC2. Yeah, i wasn't happy with the Hulk's dialogue either, and the fact that he was easily taken out of the battle.

I believe there's enough superheroes assembled to bring Apox down. Alyce to me, represents her fathers' sensitivity, and aggression. Whereas Jacob is more free-spirited, and fun-loving. The F5 kids where introduced very nicely, and i too would love to see them more in future issues.

Now that you've mentioned it, Cap does seem to be the best canidate for this big climatic ending to this arc, being that other iconic Silver Age characters have died in the MC2U, ( Green Goblin, Kingpin, and Daredevil for example)- so that does seem the route Tom'll take. Who knows? God forbid, it could Peter!

The villain? I think it's the Games Master (or whatever his name is), that Elder of the Universe? Every time the Marvel Universe gets into a big "all heroes" battle, that dude has been involved in some way every time going all the way back to Contest of Champions. You right again, will the Silver Surfer make a cameo? And the Elder's name you looking for is on the tip of my tongue, i'll search through my old SS comics and find out.

About Normie, I think the very first time he shows up with the Venom symbiote, it's gonna fall really hard on Spider-Girl. She's the one who's been telling everybody that Venom's dead. (Not gonna comment on the "Wild Man's" situation, though, except to say that his lies will probably catch up with him too. Heh!) Now this is what i'm waiting for! In that LHS #2 preview, Dormagmus went after a "civillian who was mugged, and displayed super-human strength". After he summons the spell to make the mystery man reveal himself, i swear its' Normie using the symbiotes' power, and knowledge to quickly dispose of Dormagmus. Poor may, she's still learning the hard way- "Never trust an Osborn!", but i can't say that i didn't see this coming- well Normie going back to his evil ways, but never with the symbiote. Good one Tom!

And what's up with Brenda dissing the CEO of Oscorp? Maybe she's just trying to back up her man? Yep!

Cool! Thanks Jarkoer, you're the man sitting next to the man, that talks to THE MAN!

Y'know, I think it is her! Tom said at that Pittsburgh Convention that she'd make an appearance soon. I think a lot of people at Midtown know about her and Howard now. Maybe somebody might take things out on him. Moose, maybe? Mayday's going to take it hard because she talked to both Sandra and Howard in the past, and I guess things still haven't worked out. That issue looks like it could be a little dark, but I'm really looking forward to it.

Too bad about Normie. He was a nice guy, and he was really popular with a lot of fans not too long ago. Well, he didn't take a long bath in the goblin goo. Maybe there's an antidote somewhere. I'm a lot more interested in Normie now than I have been in a long time! Where Venom is right now in the story is really excellent. Whatever Tom's planning with Normie, I'm really enjoying this story so far.

You're welcome. Anytime! Tom's a really cool guy. That dude's a class act. Jeffers is awsome. That guy really thinks two moves ahead. Me? Ah, I'm just some guy who wandered out of nowhere one day. SG's the first book I've read after being away from comics for six years. This is great stuff! It really speaks to me about a part of myself that I didn't think existed anymore.

This is a cool place you guys got here. The Alvaro Board has been kind of slow this past month. Thanks! This has been fun. Let's do this again for #87, but darn it if I want to wait three weeks after the issue comes out to start talking about it. :)

Yeah i know what you mean, i was hoping that Normie would be able to overcome the "Osborn legacy", and do some good- which he did by hooking Phil up with the Goblin gear, and allowing him to reassume his stint as the Green Goblin. BUT- as long as there was a Goblin, and a living Osborn, it was only right that he pick up the mantle of evil again. So he is definitely a character to watch out for in issues to come! Thanks again for being a aprt of this thread, and adding your insights, and love for this book. Spider-Girl was also the reason i started reading comics again too! You're comic hiatus was 6 years, well mine was 10 years! A former co-worker was the one who turned me on to reading again, and SG just so happened to be in his monthly rotation- so here i am! This thread can be a little slow at times as well, but as long as we have SOMEONE keeping it going, it keeps the place fun an' upbeat!

Yeah, school's out so traffic should pick up. I noticed things have picked up a little on the other board.

Ten years?! Dang! That's awsome. During my time off I didn't give a single thought to going back to comics. I missed out on the ending of the Clone Saga, and wanted to know what happened. That's how I ran into Spider-Girl on the internet. Wasn't until I was browsing at the only comics booth at this sci fi convention that I actually picked it up for the first time. Heh! And it still took me another year or two until a co-worker finally dragged me into a comics store. I think I became a regular around ... SG #48? Really good stuff. I thought it was going to be some kind of cheap sleeze book at first, but I really fell for the character and the stories. It's not so much the villains and the fighting, but rather everything else. With her family life and down-to-earth problems and referring to a continuity that I grew up with, it really does feel like I've come back home. Sounds kind of corny, huh? :)

Corny? Not at all! That's the beauty about comic books my friend, and ain't nothin' wrong with that! I read the first 10 issues of SG, by way of my co-worker, and friend, before finally buying my first issue- (isuue #12, the first appearence of Kaine, and a SG classic issue!) in July of '99. And that's all it took for me to get me back into buying comics again. I'm the kind of reader that hates to miss out on the big conclusion to a good story, so when i bought that issue, i had to find a comic book store being that i bought that one at Target! So SG reopened the flood gates, and got me buying all my favorite books from my childhood-teenage years again. The only problem i have now, is storge space!!

Ya know, with all the new Spider-Man games coming out, wouldn't it be cool if Spider-Girl was an unlockable character? Maybe they should just do a Spider-Man Universe game that would include everything, and everyone in the Spidey world! With the Ultimate Spider-Man game coming, who knows- maybe Spider-Girl will get her own game too one day. That'd be tight!

There's been a lot of talk from new readers', and readers' alike of Spider-Girl, who have been saying that they feel a new creative team is needed to take this title to higher hieghts. Now change is inevitable, but for the time being- i truly beleive Tom an' crew are doing a great job with SG, and i personally would love to see them continue on as long as they continue bringing the good stuff baby! To the new readers', i always advise them to read back issues to get a true feel of the title, that way they can get the "meat & potatoes" of what Spider-Girl is all about. Now for those that have been reading the book for a while, and feel like Tom is falling off a bit, well- everyone is entitle to their opinion. Sure, SG has had her ups' and downs, what title doesn't, but the book has been consistent to its' credit, so to each its' own. So the bottomline is this, if you like Ultimate Spider-Man, and its' character driven stories, then you'd be right at home with Spider-Girl.

Have a great Memorial's Day everybody. Be blessed, and enjoy the time your families! And send me some BBQ!! (lol!)

This is the week that the Last Hero Standing arc comes out, right? If so, this is gonna be a really good week for new comics, and for fans of Spider-Girl, and the MC2 Universe!

I think the book's been doing much better under the editorship of Nicole and Molly, and I think constructive feedback from fans have really improved things. I think things got bogged down during the Black Tarantula arc when we had a densely told action story, but in my opinion since #79 things are really starting to pick up and we're reminded once more about why Mayday is such a great character while still having the great action adventures. In my opinion the characters are a bit more important than the action of the story. I know I started reading Spider-Girl because of the character. Talking about recent issues, I think #81, #85 and #86 were especially great for the mix of character and action!

When is the next digest out? I need the 3rd digest first though

Really anxious to get the talk rolling on SG #87 and LHS #1 when I get back from my weekend. :)
