All Kevin Smith flicks are underrated. Even Jersey Girl. Yes.... That's right. Even Jersey Girl.

PREACH, DAMMIT!! Between the Sweeny Todd moments, and just about every scene between Ben and Liv Tyler, I liked the movie!

I'm almost done with it (like 1:30 hours in), and it's been a while, probably like 2 years.

Wow, what a great movie.

Everyone does a great job, the 'Fleck is just awesome in this.

Alan Rickman, how did he not get an Oscar nomination for this is beyond me.

George Carlin? Jason Lee? Matt Damon? Salma Hayek? Fantastic.

I even think Linda Fioerntino, who apparently had some problems with KS, did an amazing job, she just appears so sad sometimes, totally in-character, and I love watching her cry (well, not really, but you get it)

This movie even manages Chris Rock not only to be tolerable, but actually funny.

Dialogue and Viewaskew references? Hey, I love Kevin Smith movies, no need to get into that

Action wise, it could have been better, although I do love the (as IGN once put it) Avengers-style melee at the end, but most than anything....the story.

You believe Rufus when he's talking about Jesus, how nice he was and all.

You feel sorry for Jesus being told all that while he's only 12, when, as Metatron puts it, all he wanted to do was play with other kids, and how much it hurts his Father to not be able to tell him Himself.

You feel so sad for Loki and Bartleby and their reason to do everything that they did.

How Man screws up so bad sometimes, doing horrible things in His name.

And that basically you just need to have faith, not fight over who has the best religion

I'm missing a lot of stuff, but jeez, there's just so many things to talk about.

This is probably my favorite Kevin Smith movie now, I fracking love it

Damn Gams, its like me and you are the same person.

I LOVE this movie. It's the only Kevin Smith flick I own on dvd. I love the message behind it. I personally am not strictly any religion, though I do believe in God, and I don't see how people saw this film as blasphemous at all, when the message behind it was so pure and so true.

The message was spot on and mirrors what I believe, the acting was great, funny, moving and everything else a movie should be.

I felt for everyone, even the fallen angels who were basically jipped.

Brilliant movie.

I am officially in love with zer00.

Glad to see someone sees Sarah Michelle Gellar as the ***** she is.

The funny thing about Dogma is this: I detest Jay and Silent Bob, and yet I love this movie. Very muchly so. I can't explain the rationality, but I think Alan Rickman has something to do with it--he cracks me up every single time.
(Of course it could also be that I'm a Snape addict--mind you, I'm not in love with Snape, so much as I would like to be him. I detest kids, and if I could get away with what he does, I'dve been a teacher, too.)

Anyways, I like how the movie is a riot, and it's pretty much about being open-minded. I mean, it's one of the few movies I dig that I walk away from with a smile, you know? Besides that, I tend to like movies that start out in the "real" world, and then one thing happens, and suddenly you're on this epic journey to save the world, or something. Because that's how I get through my days, really--pretending something exciting is gonna happen; I make stuff up all the time. And so I relate when I see others doing the same.

No No.
Every single thing Kev has done is insanely OVER-rated.
He's a cool guy, but he can not write or direct real movies.
It's just fun for geeks to see some of their own favorite topics and sensibilities on the screen so they confuse his movies with "good" movies.
His dialogue is unbearable and as a director he doesn't even have the skill to make made-for-TV movies, let alone theatrical releases. :(:down

Dogma is an awesome movie, and, i think it has some of the most important messages about religion... especially, not to take it too literally.

I couldn't agree more with your sentiments on Kevin Smith. However, Dogma, although not very well directed (as are all Smith films), was a very well written movie and his only movie that was actually smart. So, is it a great movie? No, because Smith directed it and he is not a good director. The plot, writing, etc..was very well done especially considering the subject matter. The message behind Dogma was fantastic, but it was heavily bogged down by far too many "Smithnesses".

My SMith opinions.

Clerks - a funny stand up comedy routine turned into a very poorly directed movie. The material would have worked in stand-up but it doesn't translate into a movie.

Mallrats - can anyone say fanboy wet-dream?

Chasing Amy - utter garbage all around. Clearly Smith knows no actual lesbians and the story seemed to be written by a man who only knows the subject matter from movies like Where The Boys Aren's, ie porn

Dogma - see above

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back - again, some funny bits and some few guilty pleasure bits (teh girls getting out of the van to old-school Run DMC was cool) but it is far from a coherntly directed film.

IMO, Kevin Smith would be good doing his own Saturday Night Live style skit show with short skits that don't have to be part of a larger narrative, because he can be clever, but his skills as a filmmaker are not very good.
