Yeah, I really believe at this point all this mess is about one of these two reasons:
1) They don't want to announce yet that they WON'T renew it, in fear of audiences losing interest in watching the rest of the episodes (and they need viewers)
2) It's a weird, sadist marketing trick of NBC and the "Hannibal" creators (who I presume already know it will be renewed, but pretend otherwise), in order to get attention from audiences and media.
On NBC's end most likely. On the company's end, there seems to be talks about other deals that are in the works. NBC's fall and mid line ups are already booked, they're not just going to suddenly cancel a mid-season show they have a contract now with to throw Hannibal in there. Meaning the only NBC slot left for Hannibal is summer.... This is why it's more likely that the company is in talks with other distribution companies now than rotating around NBC, NBC is more or less booked right now except people are thinking summer?
