Comic-Con: ‘Hannibal’ Crew Teases Season 2 Two-Part Opener
By JEN YAMATO

NBC’s Hannibal ended its rookie season on a cliffhanger with FBI investigator Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) on the wrong side of the bars, accused of murder. Thursday at Comic-Con exec producer Bryan Fuller revealed that the crime series’ second season will return in a two-parter followed by a trial in Episode 3. “We have the season arc crafted and its a doozy,” Fuller teased to a packed ballroom. “We just finished breaking Episode 3 and we are breaking Episode 4 now.” The series’ second season openers will act as a pseudo pilot, Fuller said, reintroducing characters who now find themselves in much different places. “Will knows something no one else knows and it’s a great place to put a character,” Fuller said. “One of the things I was most excited about in Season 2 was seeing Will Graham hit rock bottom.”

Fans were out in full force to support the NBC series which wrapped its freshman season down in the ratings. In its first Comic-Con showing since debuting in April (Hannibal had a pre-premiere appearance last year) the show had fans in full Hannibal cosplay turn up at the panel. Star Dancy joined Fuller, exec producer and series director David Slade, and producer Martha De Laurentiis onstage for a panel chat following a gory “amuse bouche” highlights reel. The recap was a reminder of how Hannibal routinely depicts some of the most extreme graphic kills on broadcast TV. Fuller says network suits rarely object. Except on the Season 1 episode “Coquilles,” in which a killer mutilates his victims into angels to watch over him in his sleep. “We had two people who were nude and we saw their buttocks,” Fuller said. “They were dead, they were flayed open, and cracked in many ways. Their butt crack was the least offensive of the ones they were sporting [but] the network said no… I asked why, because of the exposed spine and muscle tissue and flayed skin? I said, ‘What if we fill the butt cracks with blood so you can’t see them?’ They said OK.”

Fuller & Co. spoke often and fondly of Red Dragon, the 1981 novel by Thomas Harris that Hannibal is adapted from joining numerous films (Silence of the Lambs, Manhunter, Red Dragon) featuring the famous Dr. Hannibal Lector character. “I was going back to that book until the day we finished shooting,” said Dancy. “I read it a couple of times and tried to let it be in the background.” Slade, whom De Laurentiis announced will direct more episodes, wants to film the book’s real ending into the show’s future. Absent co-star Mads Mikkelsen also got love from the panel. “He screen tested because he was not so well known,” said DeLaurentiis of the Danish actor, whose biggest role stateside at the time was in Casino Royale. “But I think he really owns the role now.” Fuller described the take on Lector that won Mikkelsen his vote. “It was about finding an actor who had a specific take on the character,” said Fuller. “He said he didn’t want to play Anthony Hopkins or Brian Cox. He wanted to play Satan.”

lol Mads in the gag reel...

"This is possibly the finest salad I've ever eaten in my life. Shame to ruin it with all that meat."
".... Shut up, *****."

:funny:

Damn, Abigail was such a damn cutie. Just noticed her in episode 10 of Caprica and just something about her. She definitely needs to be in more stuff since she won't be showing up on Hannibal again.

Well, we can't be so sure now, can we? ;)

I mean, yea but I dunno if I'd like that twist much. It's just like with Miriam, aside from her arm beig found we aren't 100% that he killed her either

Mason Verger is proof that you can still live a long and fulfilling life with parts of your head missing.

Kinda my point. No parts
Of Abigail and only an arm
Of Miriam's so we can't exactly know but I still wouldn't like it at all. There's too much stuff that's gonna be going on that bringing her or even them back would just make it convoluted. Leave em both dead.

I think it's pretty safe to say Miriam's dead.

Probably Abigail too.

Holy hell that gag reel was great. I need more of that in my life like now!

Gag reels from dramas are always so much better than comedys :D

Gag reels should be mandatory on all DVDs. :D

Fuller was on the Kevin Pollack Chat Show. Can't post it here because of language, but it's on YouTube.

Hannibal Exclusive: Sex Symbol Cynthia Nixon Joins Season 2 Cast as
Hungry for a little Hannibal Season 2 scoop?

Sex and the City vet Cynthia Nixon is returning to TV with a recurring role on Bryan Fuller’s delectable NBC serial thriller, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Nixon will play Kade Prurnell, an employee of the Office of the Inspector General in FBI Oversight who is investigating the events of the first season and Jack Crawford’s (Laurence Fishburne) culpability.

Nixon’s post-Sex TV roles have included stints on The Big C and 30 Rock.

Hannibal is slated to return at midseason.

The extras are different from the region one and region two Blu-Ray. On the region two all you get is the first look featurette and forensics 101 featurette which is disappointing.

He's back for a second helping.

:awesome:

so.... STILL no news on whether or not bowie accepted that offer ?

I paid for that one on Amazon streaming because I wasn't going to wait. To pay for just one isn't so bad. :p
