Horror Dr. Lecter Invites you to Dinner. The ''Hannibal'' Thread - Part 5

I was just asking I didn't read all the posts just heard it might film after august this coming year and then I see you guys talking about buffalo bill and thought I missed some news

My bad

He was pretty insistent that we'd see that novel covered at some point or another, so in hindsight he must have known that if MGM didn't play ball they'd eventually get their way. I'll be very interested to see how quickly it all materialises.

Halt and Catch Fire will be ending soon as well, so hopefully everything will fall into place so Lee Pace can play Buffalo Bill like Fuller wants him to be alongside Mads, Hugh, Lawrence etc.

Fuller wants Pace for Buffalo Bill? That would be amazing, really hope the stars can align for this show to return.

Fuller also wanted Lee to play Francis Dolarhyde too, but Halt and Catch Fire was renewed and he pursued other options. (I love what we got in Richard Armitage though, he wasn't a downgrade in anyway.) Seems like Fuller just really wants one of his muses in Lee Pace to play Thomas Harris' antagonists and Pace did play a transgendered person in a film earlier in his career.

Another tantalizing idea that Fuller had was hiring Jodie Foster herself to direct an episode - that's an idea that'll get those fannibals' hearts racing.

I think he said once that Foster politely declined an offer to direct.

Aww man! Ah well, at least Fuller actually kicked the tires on that one.

Does the complete series set come with any new features? I already own seasons 1-3 on blu ray so I'm just wondering. Sorry for the bump.

Season 3 was very weak. Too much of Fueller being weird of the sake of being weird. I'm out on a fourth season.

Bryan Fuller says Hannibal revival 'conversations' have begun

Fannibals, rejoice! Bryan Fuller says his fellow Hannibal executive producer Martha De Laurentiis has “started conversations” about reviving the much-loved show, which has been off the air since NBC screened the season 3 finale in August 2015. But Fuller also warned that it could still be a while before fans see the show return.

“Conversations couldn’t start until 2 years after the final airing of season 3,” Fuller wrote on Twitter earlier this week, in response to a request for news about Hannibal. “@neoprod has started those conversations. This takes time.”

Excellent. Now we just need Fuller to confirm he's gained the rights to Silence of the Lambs.

To be perfectly honest, considering the deficit between how I feel about seasons 1 and 2 (when Fuller was working with loosely-defined backstory) and how I feel season 3 (when Fuller was actually adapting material), I don't think I'd mind too much at all if he completely avoided Lambs altogether and branched off completely into his own continuity.

I believe one of his ideas was to set Silence before Red Dragon, in the two year time skip the show had. It could be a way to have it both ways, as Fuller could explore Will/Hannibal post-S3, but also just do a 6 episode adaptation or whatever of Silence of the Lambs. Or invent more stories with Clarice and just set it before Red Dragon.

Nah, I think it's only right that this series gets the chance to deliver its own twisted version of the "Lambs" storyline, as they've already done with "Red Dragon" and even "Hannibal", to an extent.

I'd rather Fuller's "re-mixing" of Harris's material than adaptation. It worked better and made things such as Red Dragon and Hannibal elements pop up in season two better. It feels more like Fuller doing his own thing which was more interesting.

That's what I mean. It's not like Fuller would ever do a straight adaptation of the Lambs movie/book, which is why I'm so interested to see his take on it. There would still be plenty of twists/turns and surprises.

Considering the cuisine for S4 is Cuban, I don't think it's gonna be SOTL just yet.

The strength of this show centers on Will and Hannibal and really sets it apart. I feel if you bring in Clarice, it would distract from that. I really enjoy the road map that Fuller and co. have drawn for themselves, taking the occasional detour into Harris when necessary like in season two.

If Clarice and Silence of the Lambs is set within the 2 year time skip, we could get an awesome, more straightforward (well as straightforward as Fuller's adaptations get) adaptation of Silence of the Lambs. You wouldn't have a conflict with Will's character either. Plus it could give them breathing room to potentially create original stories with Clarice Starling. I'd love to see Fuller make some original stories about her.

I don't want another straight forward adaptation. You will never top the movie. You might as well just keep it Hannibal/Will focused. That's the strength of Hannibal. That relationship. The movies covered the Clarice stuff, now I like how it's about Hannibal and Will. It's carved out its own identity. The SOFL idea just feels more obligatory and less natural for the course they've charted.

That's the main thing. Silence of the Lambs is just on a different level than either of the Red Dragon adaptations or Hannibal. The cultural relevance, the awards love... that's dicey stuff to play around with. Even aside from my feelings about Fuller adapting stuff vs. Fuller more-or-less filling in narrative blanks, I'd say steering clear of fully delving into Lambs wouldn't be the worst thing.

Didn't Fuller say his planned Season 4 would be done in the way of Angel Heart/Inception? I could see the whole season being an extended dream sequence within Hannibal's head as he and Will fall off that cliff, with Season 5 being Silence of the Lambs.
