Hannibal Scoop: Wonderfalls' Caroline Dhavernas to join Bryan Fuller’s New Project
by Kimberly Roots

A talking lion figurine told us something great Wednesday night: Wonderfalls sweetheart Caroline Dhavernas will be part of the Hannibal cast.

Just kidding about the lion – it was actually showrunner Bryan Fuller, the man behind both the single-season cult hit and NBC’s upcoming horror series, who tweeted the news. “CAST #Wonderfalls #Hannibal” said his cryptic message, accompanied by a photo of Dhavernas in her Wonderfalls days.

We hear that the actress will play a series regular named Dr. Alana “Al” Bloom, a psychiatric protege of Hannibal Lecter’s who teaches psychology at Georgetown University and is consulting with the FBI on criminal profiling when she introduces her mentor to Laurence Fishburne’s Jack Crawford.

Hannibal is, of course, NBC’s contemporary series take on the characters from Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon novel. Written and exec-produced by Fuller, the series centers on the budding relationship between FBI agent Will Graham (played by Hugh Dancy) and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) – who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship.

Dhavernas most recently starred in Shonda Rhimes’ short-lived medical soap, Off the Map.

Hannibal is slated for a mid-season premiere.
Oh ****, y'all.

YES!! I've been hoping for a Fuller/Dhaveras reunion for ages now.

I want footage for this now. I don't care if they haven't even begun filming, I want it! Same for Mockingbird Lane, which I'm hoping gets a full pick-up soon.

Nice, this reminds me that I have to watch finish Wonderfalls.

I was not wild about them changing Dr. Bloom's gender, but I heart Carol Dhavernas, so I'm sold.

This has grown into one of my most anticipated shows for the 2012-2013 season. With a 13 episode order it may debut in February so it can air uninterrupted until May.

If those pictures posted on that board are any indication, the imagery in this series is going to be ****ing great.

Exclusive: NBC's Hannibal Taps Camelot Actress to Fill Philip Seymour Hoffman's Shoes
by Vlada Gelman

NBC’s Hannibal is putting a gender twist on the famed cannibal’s backstory.

Camelot actress Lara Jean Chorostecki has joined the cast of the Peacock’s upcoming Hannibal Lecter drama series in a role previously played by Stephen Lang in 1986′s Manhunter and Philip Seymour Hoffman in 2002′s Red Dragon, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Chorostecki will portray Freddie Lounds — aka Freddy Lounds, the sleazy tabloid reporter played by Lang and Hoffman on the big screen — in NBC’s contemporary take on the characters from Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon novel.

Written and exec-produced by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls), the project centers on the budding relationship between FBI agent Will Graham (played by Hugh Dancy) and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) – who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship. The cast also includes Caroline Dhavernas (Wonderfalls) as Dr. Alana “Al” Bloom, a psychiatric protege of Hannibal’s who introduces her mentor to Laurence Fishburne’s G-man Jack Crawford.

Chorostecki’s Freddie is more sophisticated in her manipulations than her male predecessors, but no less daring, making her a foil for not only Will Graham, but Hannibal Lecter and Jack Crawford, as well.

Chorostecki will next be seen in the upcoming BBC America original series Copper.

Hannibal is slated for a mid-season premiere.

Never heard of her. Hope she's good.

'Hannibal' Adds Potential Love Interest for Hugh Dancy (Exclusive)
"Young Adult's" Hettienne Park will recur on the NBC drama from Bryan Fuller.
5:45 PM PDT 8/23/2012 by Lesley Goldberg

NBC's Hannibal has cast a new member of Laurence Fishburne's investigative team.

Hettienne Park, whose credits include Young Adult, Bride Wars and episodes of Mercy and The Good Wife, has joined the upcoming adaptation of the Thomas Harris books, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

Park will recur as Beverly Katz, a bright-eyed yet weary crime scene investigator who specializes in working with fibers. She's part of a team of three who piece evidence together. When she first encounters Will (Hugh Dancy), she confronts the criminal profiler about his unusual role with the FBI and flags the special treatment he receives. While the duo initially clashes, their relationship could potentially become a romantic one.

Mads Mikkelsen will play the psychiatrist-turned-serial killer in the 13-episode dramatic take from Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller. Wonderfalls alum Caroline Dhavernas will star as Dr. Alana Bloom, a psychology professor at the University of Chicago who also works as a consultant profiler for the FBI.

Fishburne will recur as Jack Crawford, the head of the FBI's behavioral science unit, with L.A. Complex's Aaron Abrams recurring as Brian, a medical school grad and tech geek who works with Park's Beverly.

Fuller will write and executive produce alongside Martha De Laurentiis (Red Dragon and the big-screen feature Hannibal), Sara Colleton (Showtime's Dexter), Jesse Alexander (Lost) and Katie O'Connell. David Slade will direct and exec produce the NBC-Gaumont International Television co-production.

Park, repped by Blue Ridge Entertainment, has also appeared in Damages, Law & Order and Numbers.
Given that he ends up married to another woman and who the series lead is, I'm betting things won't end well for her.

Given that he ends up married to another woman and who the series lead is, I'm betting things won't end well for her.

Dr. Katz is a character in the Red Dragon novel, part of the investigative team, and doesn't get killed, so there's hope for her yet.

I don't think they've even begun filming.

I'm sure Fuller will tweet something when filming does begin. Getting a TV season started, especially a new show, feels like it goes at a snails pace but then once it starts its like a unstoppable train. Time isn't their friend.

According to Fuller's twitter, they start filming tomorrow.

Dancy and Mikkelsen on set

I can't wait for the day when we'll get footage for this, I can sense that it's going to be great.

Here's another pic of Hugh and Mads from a different angle and in colour.

'Hannibal' Adds 'Kids in the Hall' Alum to FBI Team (Exclusive)
Scott Thompson will play the third member of Laurence Fishburne's investigative team.
2:28 PM PDT 9/6/2012 by Lesley Goldberg

NBC's upcoming Hannibal series has rounded out the ranks of Laurence Fishburne's investigative team.

The Kids in the Hall alum Scott Thompson has boarded Bryan Fuller's adaptation of the Thomas Harris books, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

Thompson will recur as Jimmy Price, the third member of the FBI crime scene investigation team headed by Laurence Fishburne's Jack Crawford, the head of the FBI's behavioral science unit. Jimmy specializes in fingerprinting and spatter patterns at crime scenes.

He rounds out the three-person team that includes Hettienne Park (Young Adult) and Aaron Abrams (L.A. Complex), who play Beverly Katz and Brian Zeller, respectively.

From Pushing Daisies' Fuller, Mads Mikkelsen will play Hannibal, the psychiatrist-turned-serial killer in the 13-episode series. Wonderfalls alum Caroline Dhavernas will star as Dr. Alana Bloom, a psychology professor at the University of Chicago who also works as a consultant profiler for the FBI, with Hugh Dancy starring as criminal profiler Will Graham.

In addition to writing and starring on Kids in the Hall, Thompson's credits also include The Simpsons, Reno 911 and Carpoolers.

Great news, I'm a fan of Scott Thompson, and interesting to see him in a serious role.

This role was played by Dan "Bulldog" Butler in Manhunter, and was the guy who was able to lift a fingerprint from the toilet tissue letter that Dollarhyde sent to Lecter.

The next role for Jose Andres: culinary advisor for “Hannibal,” a future NBC series
By Tom Sietsema

Add yet another line to the epic resume of celebrity chef Jose Andres: culinary consultant for the forthcoming NBC series “Hannibal,” based on the fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter.

You remember Lecter. He’s the mad man from “Silence of the Lambs” who professed a fondness for human liver “with some fava beans and a nice chianti [insert scary tongue noise here].”

Andres says he was tapped by producer and screenwriter Bryan Fuller to flesh out the character, so to speak, by showing what a culinary sophisticate the cannibalistic psychiatrist was, pre-incarceration. There will be references to French chef Auguste Escoffier and fine wines, says the chef, and a scene featuring loin — but not pork or beef loin — with roasted apples and Cumberland sauce. Eventually, “every single body part” will factor into the show, says Andres, who adds that his research included eating “a lot of lung dishes this summer.” (Lung, from animals, is popular in Italy and Spain.)

Putting in a plug for his native Spain, he says human bones found in the ancient Atapuerca caves in the north of the country show evidence of man eating man, perhaps in the belief that the consumer might absorb the conquered party’s power — but possibly also just because he could.)

Andres was eager to accept the assignment from Fuller, who won an Emmy Award for his work on “Pushing Daisies.” “This is beyond cannibalism,” says the chef. “It’s about people who have dark sides and dark stories.” His restaurant team had initial doubts about the project. “This is TV!” he told them. “I’m going to lose customers doing this? I don’t think so.”

Andres hesitates to share too much about his work on the series, which has not been given an air date yet. Some of his ideas might end up on the cutting room floor, he explains. But the chef suggests viewers watch for a party scene with food prepared by Lecter and also an “interesting” new way to prepare a Fuller favorite, mushrooms.

“I want Hannibal to have the same passion as Jose Andres has,” says Fuller, the creator of the 13 episode show, which is currently shooting in Toronto and stars Mads Mikkelsen as the cannibalistic psychiatrist before prison. (His advice to the actor: “Do not read any serial killer books. Look at cookbooks.”)

While the series will show Hannibal “at his most peacock and expansive,” Fuller says, the character will be seen cooking, rather than sourcing his main ingredients, to “make him more relatable and less a villain.”

Lecter is no garden variety flesh eater, says Fuller. The character thinks
of his victims like this: “You are a pig of a human being and you deserve
to become someone’s bacon.”

Pass the wine, please.

Guillermo Navarro to make Directorial debut on Hannibal Episode 6

If he's as good a director as he is a cinematographer, this should be quite something.

Exclusive: Pushing Daisies' Ellen Greene Joins Cast of NBC's Hannibal
by Kimberly Roots

Congrats, Aunt Vivian, on getting out of the house!

Ellen Greene, who played one of Chuck’s shut-in aunts on Bryan Fuller‘s Pushing Daisies, is reuniting with the show’s creator on his new gig Hannibal, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Greene will take on the recurring role of Mrs. Komeda, a novelist and member of Boston’s cultural elite. She’s also a pal of the titular cannibal, Dr. Lecter (played by Casino Royale‘s Mads Mikkelsen) which – we assume – should protect her from becoming his lunch.

Greene’s recent TV work has included roles on Bunheads and The Young and the Restless, and she’s best known for playing Audrey in the big-screen adaptation of Little Shop of Horrors.

She is the latest of Fuller’s former co-workers to join the NBC midseason thriller; two actresses from his one-season cult fave Wonderfalls — Caroline Dhavernas and Chelan Simmons – have already signed on to be part of the bloody good time.
Pushing Daisies reunion, y'all!
