The bathroom scene...

"What are you doing in here?"
"I love the smell of urinal cake."
"Me too. *turns around* USE THE LADIES ROOM!!!"

:lmao:

Loved that ending. Loved the WHOLE thing.

Yeah, that scene was great!!!

Overall, I really enjoyed the show. I love the way the show visualizes how Will Graham thinks.

And I have to say, they really did push the envelope with the gore. It's not gratuitous, but when it happens, you definitely get that shock factor from it. There's enough stylization balanced with realism that it never feels silly, and that's important, 'cause this show is DARK!!!!

And Lord knows NBC needs a hit, because the network doesn't have much else going for it at the moment.

I'm confused...is Lecter supposed to be the Minnesota Shrike or is the Shrike also a cannibal?
I took it as The Shrike will be the season arc, one new copycat kill each episode sort of. I dont know why, but I dont think it is Lecter.

- Speaking of the hospital ending, that was also a surprise to see Hannibal fell asleep holding the girl's hand. I like the flicker of compassion there.

- I did get a little confused about which murders were Hobbs and which were Hannibal. I mean, we saw Hannibal carving up lungs, so did he kill the one girl who didn't fit the rest? And was that really sausage he brought Will for breakfast?

I don't think that was compassion, it was something else. Either Hannibal is trying to parrot sympathetic human behaviour, or he just does it to experience the sensation and the delicious taste of that girl's weakness and vulnerability, like a cat with play with a mouse.

I think all the schoolgirl murders were committed by Hobbs except for the one they discovered out in the field. That was Hannibal's, copycatting Hobbs per se for his own complex set of reasons.

Fantastic pilot, better than Awake's. I really hope it gets enough viewers. NBC will likely air the entire season but would love for it to come back for a 13 episode second season.

Awww man don't make me remember Awake. That shows was actually rad

I was under the impression that Hannibal killed the girl in the field in order to give will the hint he needed. Part of his training/toying.

I saw a complex array of reasons behind his actions:

- to train Will to recognize that this was not the real Shrike at work
- to test Will, so see if he is as smart as Hannibal guessed he is, and by extension whether or not Will will be smart enough to catch Hannibal one day
- to toy with Will (and also Crawford) to see how these normal people react under duress
- just 'cause: Hannibal really needs no reason to kill, just like I have no reason to tap my foot at my desk at work, but I do it anyway. Maybe Hannibal himself wanted to see if he could feel what the Shrike feels firsthand, to try to understand other, inferior, killers better.

Loved the pilot. A part of me wishes it was a period piece, but I can live with it. I immediately preferred this version of Graham over Norton's version.

I was talking to a friend last night about the progression of Lecter because she said he was more "subdued" than Hopkins or Cox. This is all fine with me, because we, the audience, are aware of everything, seeing him now as a snake. It's cool because we get to see Lecter play his cards and "act" as normal as he can. If the show stays on the air and gets to show his incarceration, we'll get to see Mad's version of the deliberately creepy and chilling lines that Hopkins displayed, after all, he is outed and incarcerated.

Exactly. People would be side-eyeing Hannibal hard if he acted as freaky and creepy as Hopkins does in Silence of the Lambs.

Nobody would want to go near that guy as their therapist, for one.

Very chilling and enjoyable premiere, loved the visual imagery, it gives the show a very unsettling vibe to it. Great work from the leads, Mads was great as expected and Dancy's pretty good himself. I really hope this works out for the long run, god knows Fuller needs his bad luck turn around for once.

Just my opinion, of course. I do find it enjoyable, but it is awfully hokey.

Yea to each their own. Wikipedia says that it's RT rating is at 94% though so I think I'll be good when I finally get around to watching it. Movies being dated and things like that don't bother me at all, a good story is a good story regardless of the time period. If I cared about that sort of thing I would have never watched such cinematic gems like Godfather, Taxi Driver, Drugstore Cowboy, The Graduate etc. I love dated films.

Man I have got to read all these books. I totally forgot Hannibal has a sixth finger

Loved that ending. Loved the WHOLE thing.
Agreed, this was a great premiere. I will say there were a couple of moments where I found Lecktor's accent a bit hard to wade through, but overall I was quite pleased.

And on the subject of Hannibal's breakfast it seemed like they made it pretty clear that they were eating the girl's lungs. I am kind of getting the impression that we are going to be getting a ton of innuendo and double talk without flat out saying anybody is eating human meat. At least anybody besides the killers or Hannibal.

Agreed. I think Hannibal threw that one kill in there to test Will's perceptions, to see if he could tell the difference.

I found Mads Mikkelsen's accent fine and easy to follow.

I'm not to sure I like how weird Will Graham is in this. I like William Petersen and Edward Norton's take on the character more so far.

I love this version. I just have a soft spot for social outcast type characters though.

I loved it. I wish they found a better timeslot because I don't think Go On is the best lead in...

I dunno, seeing Matthew Perry repeatedly over a half-hour period does make me want to eat human lungs for some reason.
