I don't think they will follow strictly the book canon, as they've already done by now. But certainly you have a point on that.

Well, I don't understand why you are irritated, I don't think he gives away much about the plot, basically he shares his wish and his plans to pay tribute to the books and films and generally Thomas Harris' "world" of which he is a great fan and he has said he was a student of Thomas Harris (I don't know what he means by that, but whatever). Basically the information he gives out is about characters and storylines based on the books and/or films, so it's nothing new.

And IMO, it's a very clever way of promotion, every Thursday before every episode is on air he answers questions of fans on twitter. Only then (and in one particular interview) he "spills the beans", but again, he chooses what to answer. And all this helps building up anticipation among eager fans, mainly those who already love the "Lecter world" and have read the novels etc. It's a good thing to have fans waiting for something to happen, something they have seen before and are curious to see how it will be interpreted in Fuller's world.

Believe me, this is how I feel, me, a hardcore Lecter fan since I first watched SOTL, and now I wait every Thursday to see if he mentions something interesting about the show. And I swear, I don't feel that I've been spoiled to any big secrets about the plot, I don't have a clue what he has in mind! But I am eagerly awaiting to see, and I can only wish he gets the chance to fulfill his intentions, provided it's worthy.

Sorry for my rant, but I had to explain my point of view about this matter.

I mean it is possible but I don't want to see that. Fuller says he wants this to end up being the definitive Hannibal story so yea he sort of needs to stick to it. Clarice goes from a trainee in Silence to being a seasoned agent in Hannibal. Stuff like that needs to be kept in IMO. Plus, as Venus Ice said, I don't wanna know all this stuff really.

I agree to a degree it's just odd. I mean, at least Walking Dead keeps you guessing. I just wasnt expecting all this info like this. It's just weird to me because most of the time showrunners try to keep you guessing and sure there's enough room here for that but now it's kinda like he has to stick by what he says. Now, everybody is expecting Red Dragon to actually happen. When this was announced I figured it'd end with Lecter's incarceration. I will say it's a good way to keep people interested but it's not that cut and dry, it's a double edged sword. It gets people interested but it also kind of boxes Fuller in to where he sorta has to do that now or a lot of people will be pissed about it

Yes, I get your point Eklypze. But I believe that you are one of the few exceptions that feel like this.. And "Walking Dead" is not based on a famous novel or movie isn't it? So, it's obvious they will try to keep things secret. But what's the point for keeping secrets about "Hannibal"? As I said, he just says to fans who ask him, "we are going to show you this and that you already know from the books and look forward to it" blah blah. He doesn't give away the script details or exactly how it will all pan out to fit the plot of the show. And I believe that he shares all this because he considers himself a fan. He is too enthusiastic. That's all. He can't help himself :woot:

And frankly, I'm very curious to see how he will fit all these in his version, but to tell the truth, I'm not very optimistic about it. At least not for after season 4. All this nonsense going on with MGM can cause a serious problem.

I agree with this.

But also, I'm not really interested in seeing a movie as perfect as The Silence of the Lambs recreated with a different cast.

And "Walking Dead" is not based on a famous novel or movie isn't it?

A graphic novel series, which the show deviates from significantly at times

So, I wonder how old Hannibal is supposed to be. They can't possibly keep his entire backstory with him still being so young in 2013. He doesn't look nearly old enough to have been alive during WWII.

I wonder that too, especially considering Fuller said we may see Uncle Robert and Lady Murasaki.

Mads Mikkelsen was born in 1965.

I read somewhere (Probably on here) that Fuller said the WW2 backstory was jettisoned.

Which is fine, as I did not care for Rising, in either of its iterations.

Haha it seriously is. I liked it when it was first released my first thought was "This movie is rad!" And I just never watched it again. Tried a few weeks ago and oh man, I honestly couldn't even finish it

Rising is like bad fanfiction.

The story behind it it ridiculous too...

Movie Studio: We want a Hannibal prequel.
Thomas Harris: I don't want to do that.
Movie Studio: We're making one with or without you.
Thomas Harris: ... ****. Fine, I'll do it. :csad:

Haha yea I've always thought that is equal parts funny and sad.

One wonders if Harris made it as campy and ridiculous and self-parodying as possible as a big middle finger to the studio for forcing it on him.

so, nbc is only putting the first 3 eps online right ? cause I didn't expect the second one to be put online and it'd be weird as hell if they put the entire season online. not that I wouldn't like that incase I miss an ep or wanna watch it again, of course. just that it obviously wouldn't get as many views on tv that way .

Silence of the Lambs is the only movie I will honestly give a perfect 10/10 to.

Completely off-topic. I just felt like sharing.

On topic, I'm glad they scrapped the WW2 timeline. If they do ever explore Lecter's past in the show, I kind of hope they come with something completely different. Although Fuller did mention his uncle and Lady Murasaki showing up at some stage...still, that could mean anything. Most of Rising was alright, they just need to drop the vigilante thing and the sword play.

I was not too fond of the angle of Lecter pursuing cannalbalism as a result of trauma. It was a part of the angle of making him sympathetic, which I was not fond of in the books. Speaking of the aforementioned element of camp, I thought Mason Verger's death rested on the borderline; I actually preferred the film death to the book death.

Mason's storyline in the book was just so damn good but yea that death was just goofy. Although the cattle prod part TOTALLY should have been left in haha

If I had to edit Rising, it would go something like this:

Have Mischa be killed and cannibalized, but Lector doesn't get revenge. He never finds or kills the ones responsible. He grows up haunted by the memory, wanting just to be able to comprehend how someone could do such a thing. He study's psychology, he studies cannibalism in other cultures, but it's not enough. Ultimately, the only way he becomes content is to become his nightmare.

No vigilante hunting, no martial arts, no pseudo-romance with his aunt.

It's not much, I know.

I kinda sorta like this idea. it makes sense for Hannibal. much more than turning him into dexter with a foreign accent.
