I'll be seeing it in a little under 3 hours. I'll tell you then.

I'm not surprised. Beginning with Winter Soldier, it seems like every Marvel Studios that has breached the 90s mark has to fight tooth and nail to stay there, no matter how well received they are. We probably won't see a film score 92 and above for a long while.

The tomatometer doesn't really matter anymore,
we know the movie is good, and we know the film will make a lot of money,
the movie is successful.

With over 170 reviews in and the typical Marvel movie getting between 250-300 reviews, we're past the halfway point in the amount of reviews that'll come in. Barring a massive influx of negative reviews, I think it's safe to say Dr. Strange is not going to drop below the low 80s.

It absolutely matters. It just released in North America. There is definitely a direct correlation between RT scores and box office success for super hero films, in most cases. There are always exceptions, but critical hits tend to be skewed more positively towards their original projections than critical bombs.

Tomato meter matters because studios now use the Rotten Tomato score now as a marketing tool. It's an industry standard and it's become a major talking point among audiences now. It's widely used.

Marvel Studios has never produced a film starting with Iron Man 2008 that's scored an actual "Rotten" on Rotten Tomatoes. Very few studios can claim that. Pixar most definitely can't.

The good reviews at least set a good precedent for Doctor Strange ahead of its opening domestic weekend. It's already done well overseas, but a high Rotten Tomato score gives it even bigger momentum.

Rotten Tomatoes is never guarantee the movie is going to do better, but it always helps. Even if the movie does disappointing business, a high RT score still gives the idea that the film was well received by critics and possibly fans, it just didn't find a wider audience.

Second of all, Doctor Strange has generally been a C-level character over the years. Marvel's now getting to explore a lot more obscure lesser known characters on film. To make a movie starring Doctor Strange that could get better reviews than a movie with Batman and Superman and also do competitive box office is a pretty big statement that Marvel is not to be taken lightly.

Pixar hasn't had a rotten movie...edit: nvm Cars 2...didn't know that was theatrical

Methinks Marvels Netflix shows have a higher review average vs their movies

The MCU came close to rotten for TDW and TIH 66 and 67% respectively

High 87-89% methinks now.

Sounds about right it has been at like 91-90 for a while but has gotten close to be under 90 a few time by getting to like 89.7 where it is rounded up to 90.

This is seriously doing way better than I thought it would do, that's excellent.

Hope it brings in more $$$$ than I thought as well.

Doesn't need the benefit of rounding any more to stay at 90%.

Assuming that this gets as many reviews as Ant-Man, (which is 271), Doctor Strange needs to have 243 fresh to be rounded up to 90 %. That means that out of 72 remaining reviews 64 have to be fresh. Which means 89 %. Doctor Strange has a chance, but sadly we should brace ourselves for 80's.
