Fantasy Dungeons & dragons movie discussion

Not bad visuals and looks fun. I don’t mind the humour if it’s supposed to be someone’s D&D campaign (rather than the characters naturally being like that).

Looks fun so, sure, why not?

I can already attest that Sophia Lillis as a druid will be my favourite character in the movie. :atp: Though I wish they made her more clear that's she's a tiefling by giving her a different skin tone. Also, I honestly didn't even notice her horns at first...

I have no problem with the vfx but I also never had a problem with vfx in MCU movies and Disney+ shows.

I wasn’t expecting this to be so goofy. Looks fun enough. Hopefully there’s a decent story and characters in there to make it work.

God, you guys will say anything to crap on the MCU. This looks like straight up trash.

No, the previous Dungeons and Dragons movie was trash. This actually looks like a decent, fun time, made by people who love DnD and seem to actually understand basic filmmaking, plot and story structure.

Not your bag? Fine, but insulting the tastes of people looking forward to this is not cool. And I’m saying this as someone who likes the MCU.

Chill out.

The cast is quite good here. I love Sophia Lillis from I am Not Okay with This.

MCU movies have multiple shots where you can clearly see greenscreen edges on actors.

And this has a bunch of fake looking monsters and costumes that look like they came from Party City. But that’s beside the point. What does this movie have to do with the MCU? You thinking Marvel movies are crap doesn’t make this movie good. I swear, it seems like every time a movie comes out - regardless of the quality - someone has to chime in with, “Well, at least it looks better than the MCU!” Whether it does or not, why does that matter?

Relax.
Ignore them.
Especially posts like the one you quoted.

It looks incredibly generic. That said, it looks more enjoyable than the 2000 film.

Rewatching the trailer, I like the creature designs a lot. Fun, more innovative, a little different from the typical Hollywood affair. I’m assuming the designs are inspired by the games?

Lol. That poster.

It looks like a bad Drew Struzan impression. And they’re de-emphasizing the hunk de jour— Rege-Jean Page— not a good look if you’re hoping to pull in “Bridgerton” fangirls.

Making a TTRPG into a movie is going to fail the same way making video game RPG's are gonna fair: You just can't cut out the thing that is inherent to the medium and expect it to work.

The promotional material for this movie is reminding me of Seventh Son [2014], WarCraft [2016], and In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale in all the worst ways combined.

No idea if this will be any good but it looks like it will at least be fun if the poster is anything to go by.

I mean, you are using the lore to make a story, just like in a session. Its not a set story with different paths like in a video game, it is a bunch of tools to make your own story. I mean, it does look like someone's campaign.
