E3 2014 - Part 1

And by 2016 if Nintendo doesn't have something else in the works to show us at E3 I would be shocked. Even if it's a more powerful WiiU (PS4.X1 level) that is BC with all WiiU games.

Maybe not.. Probably not.. I just wouldn't be shocked.

Personally, I expect six years out of a console. But sometimes, you gotta cut your losses.

If my son was older (he's only 5 months) I would probably buy a Wii U. I might still do that when he's old enough to play. Wii U's will be cheap then!

I'm eyeing a Wii U as a secondary console, with the PS4 as my primary console.

I'll get the Wii U solely for its exclusives.

First why: why? Second why: Why would you be interested in Destiny if you hate Halo?

First: I think Halo's gameplay is boring.
Second: It's a new IP...so it was my hope they would experiment more with gameplay...and they ARE. I'm just not sure it's enough.

It comes down to the fact that Nintendo has a different philosophy about what games are than most of the industry. Most of the industry are seeing games as sort of these pseudo-movies with as much focus on cinematic presentation than gameplay (not all, but by far, that's the attitude that has driven game development over the last several years).

Nintendo has always thought of games as more or less toys. This is why their mainline games have always strayed from being overly cinematic and instead focused more on gameplay, polish, puzzles, etc.

That's a generalization, I know, but I think it's a fairly accurate one in the grand scheme of things. It's why you're seeing Nintendo head in one direction, while other companies head in another. I suspect that it'll probably get to a point where Nintendo may not even be considered inside the gaming industry. Not that they won't develop games, but more and more, I think they're moving into a different type of territory than everyone else with how they make their games.

I don't think they're that far gone. They did concede HD, and online play – to a degree. They also resisted CD's for a decade, which cost them a console war, but they finally came around.

I think they just need to hurt a bit financially, and they'll come to their senses.

It's all about money at the end of the day.

Nah, with the Wii and DS, it was clear sign that they were going in a direction than everyone else. It did seem like there was vague effort to be more "core" with the Wii U, but even then it's still ran on their two screen policy from their DS line.

I expect their "Quality of Life" products, whenever they might be revealed, will probably be more in the continued controversial vein of the Wii and DS. They're going to an entirely concert as everyone else.

You know one thing I hated about this E3? The number of times I heard or read the phrase "full power of the PS4" uttered. Developers and writers really need to just drop that, like now

It is the most powerful video game console ever created.

Though games probably won't be pushing its full power until like... 2020.

I just wished they spent more time talking about new features and future updates to the consoles, instead of just games.

Backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games would have been nice, but I knew that was a pipe dream.

There's other times though to talk about features and updates.. E3 press conferences should ONLY be about games. They can tell us that other junk via PS blog or major nelson.

We seem to disagree a lot in this thread.

MS just got SO much **** for last years show.. and it wasn't all due to DRM and price. People hated the apps.. Now that these shows focus on games people want to see apps and garbage like that take up time.

No thanks. None of that is important. I don't spend 500 dollars on a system to watch YouTube. Talk about that stuff elsewhere.. the internet is a fine place to announce this stuff. E3 should be games, games, games.

Remember when they were talking about the "full power of the PS2?" Emotion Engine. :o

well I was looking at the Nintendo from siliconera and it seem Nintendo has another new race inspired from F zero and a few others there are more stuff coming from them then I realized. should be interesting

Honestly the only Nintendo franchises that would benefit graphically from an equal of X1/PS4 power are Zelda, Metroid, F-Zero, and some of the other "darker" ones. Games like Ratchet and Clank on PS4 doubtfully won't look that much better than they did on PS3 sans maybe some slight improvement.

so there's gonna be a new F Zero Wii U game?

Futuristic Racer Fast Racing Neo Headed To Wii U. October 29, 2013 . 12:59pm

This morning, Shin’en announced that a new Fast racing game is in development, this one for the Wii U eShop.

In 2011, Shin’en Multimedia released a futuristic racing game on WiiWare, titled Fast: Racing League. The game was inspired by titles such as Wipeout and F-Zero, with a gameplay mechanic of its own—the ability to transform your vehicle between positive and negative phases to match sections of the track and take advantage of them.

This morning, Shin’en announced that a new Fast game is in development, this one for the Wii U eShop. Titled Fast Racing Neo, the game is scheduled for release in 2014. No further details have been shared at this time.

You know, one thing that this E3 really showed me is that I'm on the right path going for just one of the consoles between the One/PS4. Outside a very few exclusives, almost everything major is 3rd party.

yeah. I feel pretty much the same way.

With the recent price cut ( and current trade in deals ), I was very tempted to get an X1.

However, after watching the E3 shows and thinking about it some more, I realize that there are no X1 exclusives that I'm really interested in ( especially the ones shown at this E3 ).

I'm way more interested in the 3rd party titles, and I can play those on my PS4, in addition to the Sony exclusives, which DID interest me.

Plus, there's really nothing the X1 can do that I can't do on a PS4. except maybe surf the web better with IE vs the ok PS4 browser. But that doesn't warrant buying an X1.

Indeed, I was most surprised by Nintendo. Up until this week, I had 0 interest in getting a Wii U. but seeing the lineup of exclusives coming out has me now seriously considering getting a Wii U this XMAS.

So, as of now, I don't see a point in owning both a PS4 and X1. But I am interested in the Wii U solely for the Nintendo exclusives available on that system. And the money I would have spent on an X1, I'd rather save for the Wii U ( which is $100 cheaper anyways ).

Nah, Naughty Dog will get a LOT out of it with Uncharted. They always do.

They got a lot out of the ps3 for the time with the original uncharted but the difference between 1 and 3 is huge. I'm sure uncharted 4 will look great but will be noticeably lower in quality as compared to games at the end of the ps4s lifespan.
