EA EA and BioWare's Anthem

It's pretty obvious from the reveal trailer, this game is going to be EA's answer to Destiny. Sci-fi themed first person shooter with maximum emphasis on loot and gear grinding, with a story added in there as just a formality.

Plus... it's EA, how won't there be microtransactions? No don't give us that "on going discussion" crap like the choice weighs heavily on you. You're putting it in, we all know it.

The discussion is only about how to maximise income from it and how to quietly get rid of all remaining games where it’s hard to integrate them.

BioWare’s Anthem may have a virtual reality mode

December 18, 2017 17 comments

BioWare has been unusually quiet about its upcoming Destiny 2 killer, Anthem, since the title’s initial announcement this past summer. And while nothing official has been stated, some fans spotted an interesting detail at a company party that might indicate that virtual reality is in the game’s future.

The picture in question shows a BioWare party in which a cubicle wall in the back appears to have the words “Anthem VR” on the side. Now as someone on Reddit pointed out, this doesn’t confirm anything, as there could be several explanations for the photo. Someone claimed that this was simply an internal VR booth set up for the party and wasn’t indicative of any actual VR software being designed for the game.
Still, it’s interesting food for thought as we continue the wait for the company to talk more about this multiplayer shooter.Read more

Various details from sources close to the studio.

Anthem-Rumor_01-24-18.jpg

Anthem, the next game from the BioWare team behind the original Mass Effect trilogy, will launch in early 2019 instead of this fall as initially planned, according to a Kotaku report citing multiple sources familiar with the project.

According to one source, the “fall 2018” release date mentioned during the E3 2017 announcement was “never realistic.”

While exact dates remain to be set, Anthem must plan a beta release, an EA Access launch, and an ongoing schedule of patches and updates, but it does not appear that Electronic Arts will let BioWare delay Anthem past March 2019.

Kotaku spoke to more than half a dozen people close to the project, all of whom described feeling both optimistic they can make something good, but anxious at the number of forces that appear to be pushing against them.

Anthem has been in development since 2012 and remained in pre-production for “a very long time.” Rumors in 2014 and 2015 suggested development was not going well due to issues with the Frostbite Engine. Since 2017, however, development has been ramping up, and one source described game development over time as going from “this game is screwed” to simply “game development is really hard.”

In addition to Anthem, BioWare is working on a reboot of the Dragon Age series, which sources say will implement more “live” elements, but still heavily focus on characters and story. However, BioWare’s focus will remain solely on Anthem until it is released. Dragon Age series executive producer Mark Darrah also publicly confirmed that he is working on both Anthem and Dragon Age.

2019? Damn, seems ages away now.

I don't buy that for a second. Not for Anthem atleast. It'll have the same amount of "story" as Destiny.

This lost another big part of the development team apparently. Its all going to crap at Bioware.

The BioWare that made PC RPGs I grew up with died when EA bought them and DA Origins was their last genuine game.

What to expect from BioWare's new action RPG at the 2018 event.

Anthem_06-01-18.jpg

Electronic Arts has already confirmed it will share more information about Anthem, the upcoming action RPG from Mass Effect developer BioWare, at EA Play 2018 on June 9. But today, the company shared more information about what to expect.

Here are five things coming to EA Play 2018 for Anthem:
1. A New Trailer
That’s right, we’re delivering an unseen trailer that delves into the dangerous world of Anthem. You’ll get a glimpse into the story, characters, and monsters that bring the game to life.
2. More Gameplay
Last year we showed off some of the core gameplay that you can expect from Anthem – flying, fighting, and of course, collecting loot. And this year we’re happy to show off some more. Tune in to see it all.
3. Combat Showcase
One thing we’ll be showing in-depth this time around is combat. The power of the Javelin exosuit will be on full display as players take on the most ferocious enemies seen yet.
4. Developer Insights
The dev team at BioWare has been hard at work, and now they’re ready to show it off in-person. Hear some of the guiding principles that have shaped the development of Anthem as BioWare General Manager Casey Hudson, Executive Producer Mark Darrah, and Lead Writer Cathleen Rootsaert take the stage.
5. A Look Behind The Curtain
Along with hearing from the developers themselves, we’ll be showing off some of the concept and production art of Anthem. You’ll get a chance to see the craftsmanship that has built this incredible world from the ground up.
The EA Play 2018 press conference will take place on June 9 at 11:00 a.m. PT / 2:00 p.m. ET. It will be live streamed via Twitch, YouTube, and EA.com.

Seems like a co-op game in the vain of Destiny/Destiny 2 with a touch of BioWare elements. Gameplay looks fun and the graphics look nice and all, but it looks like its trying to appeal to so many masters (the traditional BioWare fans and the Destiny crowd) that its confusing me. It has a single player component but I still have to always be online in order to play the game. Why do I need to always be online in order to play by myself?

BioWare's never had good trailers so I can't judge the game by its marketing. Story is the most important thing to me when it comes to games, and unfortunately BioWare stuck out on that front with their last two releases. So combining their recent track record with the fact that Anthem is an MMORPG, I find it very unlikely that the narrative will be any good.

The gameplay looks fun, the graphics are good, but until reviews are in I can't get excited for this. Which is a shame, because the BioWare of old made some of my favorite games ever.
