Well they already announced a sequel, it would have to do pretty bad for them to cancel the plans since they announced them at SDCC

A lot of sequels and projects have been announced that didn't get made. Hulk 2 never happened. There were even reports that James Schamus was writing the sequel.

They closed out hall h with the sequel news, it's getting made.

Haha wow that is awesome. Love the MCU breaking records

And speaking of records, they are two films away from being the highest grossing movie franchise of all time as I'm sure this and AOU will put it over the top. All it needs is around 1.3 billion, and I'd say these two movies are a lock for that total.

Well duh! And you dont need GOTG. Avengers 2 alone will break the record. 1,35 bil is a LOCK for A2 AOU.

Nomatter how bad the film is(and i dont find a reason why it will be bad) opening at 225-250mil (which is a guarentee) will prevent the total gross for getting under 550 mil.

A2 AOU will open big and that LOCKS a 550mil gross domestically. If the movie is gonna be good we talking about 650-725 mil total or more.

OS China will be providing at least 200 mil. 250-325mil should be expected.

And just matching the previous movie OS (without China) we are looking for a 700 mil.

700mil+250mil+650mil =a lock for a 1.6 bil total gross. and thats a modest prediction. my guess is a 1.75-1.95 bil.

MCU will be the highest grossing fanchise (unadjusted grosses) after A2 AOU and will stay n1 for ever probably. unless Marvel Studios do something stupid.

That's true IF you consider the MCU to be a franchise. Debatable.

I consider it a franchise. Mainly cause all movies connect unlike the WB DC movies that dont. so they cant be considered a franchise yet.

I dont think its debatable. my opinion anyways.

P.S. btw I really LIKE your signature. wp .

still way early but NOTICED a 93 on the Rotten

YES!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!

MCU is already the highest grossing movie franchise of all time.

I doubt this is all that surprising, but still, great news to hear!

http://variety.com/2014/film/news/guardians-of-the-galaxy-biggest-august-pre-seller-in-history-exclusive-1201271973/

“Guardians of the Galaxy” is set to become the biggest August pre-seller in Fandango’s history, the online ticket company reports.

The Marvel space adventure is outpacing sales of the previous record-holder, “The Bourne Ultimatum,” and is also outselling other films made by the comicbook production company, “Thor” and “Captain America.”

It is shaping up to be the hottest selling non-sequel of the year, besting “The LEGO Movie,” a sign of the strength of the Marvel brand. It currently accounts for 93% of tickets sold. Analysts expect the film will debut to north of $65 million this weekend.

Fandango surveyed more than 1,000 “Guardians” ticket-buyers on its site and found that 95% are attracted to the film’s humor; 85% are excited to see Chris Pratt in a starring role; and 80% are interested in seeing additional “Guardians” movies (a good thing as Disney just announced a sequel hits theaters in 2017).

Apparently yesterdays twitter count was 29,823

For Thor and TFA for the tuesday before their releases it was 7,675 and 4,909

So yeah GOTG has a lot of buzz going on

Somewhere, deep within a hidden basement, Alexei B just bolted upright out of a deep sleep, screaming incoherantly!

I'd call it the first true mega-franchise, or ultra-franchise, or whatever prefix one wants to attach to it. Basically a franchise....composed of smaller franchises.

It's not debatable.

If the movies share the same continuity and characters appear in each other's movies then they're in the same franchise.

The solo movies are the same as as spin offs.

Of interest to note is the fact that unless Guardians does way beyond expectations, this will be the first summer since 2001 without at least 1 film getting to $300M domestic. GotG is the last film to have ANY shot at all this summer. In fact the only lock for crossing that number in North America this entire year is THG3, though Hobbit 3 certainly has a better than 50/50 shot at it and will likely cross that line as 4 out of 5 previous PJ-Tolkien movies have.

Don't ruin the moment. Even if there are clearly distinct and different franchises. :oldrazz:

I view it as what it is, a collection of several franchises.

That makes it one continuity not one franchise.

A franchise is a series of films about the same characters or concepts. For example Harry Potter about Harry Potter, Stat Wars about the Skywalkers, Mission Impossible about Ethan Hunt ect. Thor 2 doesn't have any of the same characters, settings or story as TIH, Iron Man. Captain America doesn't have any of the same characters, setting or story as GOTG ect... Separate franchises, one continuity

The problem with this theory is they'd have to spin off from something originally. They don't. Each series, from Iron Man to the Avengers, is like a comic book series. Distinct, with their own runs.
