Ant-Man Edgar Wright Leaves Ant-Man!!

This is from Faraci, who is saying the same thing as El Maybe and The Playlist:

"Yesterday Edgar Wright left Ant-Man when Marvel took him and Joe Cornish off the script and handed it to Eric Pearson, who had written the Marvel One Shots. Latino Review has the story here, and it's an ugly one of Marvel backing off their filmmaker at the last moment. The new script is apparently a disaster, and rumor has it that the problem is coming from higher up than Kevin Feige - Disney execs are sticking their fingers into the Marvel pie, I'm hearing."

And a little bit about Thor 2, while we're at it:

"

This follows on the heels of Marvel taking Thor: The Dark World away from Alan Taylor in post and having another director come on and shoot additional material. Marvel's always been autocratic - this is the house that Feige built, and he's been leading it with an iron fist - but things have been getting uglier over there for some time, especially now that Disney is getting involved. Why would the studio **** with the division that's making money and having a huge cultural impact right when they're at their best? Because of dumb egos. Hollywood is dumb, run by dumb, venal people, and the executives who aren't creative resent the people who are, and want to get their stink on the movies. And you have to understand that Disney doesn't care about the movies - they want the Marvel IP so they can sell diapers and shirts and bedsheets. The movies are just commercials for the IP."

What a nightmare. I was really hoping this wouldn't happen. Looks like the golden era is behind us.

Behind us? CA:TWS just put up over $700million and critically acclaimed. We've got GOTG exciting everyone and A:AOU coming up.

Easy on the grave digging. Honestly Wright was the most eccentric of anyone coming thru the Marvel doors.

Feige has admitted that the ONLY real reason why this movie is happening at all is because Wright wanted to do it. So this is really awkward beyond simply the timing of it.

That was some bunch of fans speculating, not me.

I expect a journeyman director to complete the movie project so that it could be released in time.

Directors like Aronofsky, Cuarón, Vaughn and Bird would not show any interest in this.

Gotcha, sorry.

Did you see the title of Faraci's article? "Is This The End Of The Marvel Movie Age?"

Lmao talk abought overwrought. And already people around here are wringing their hands in despair. :doh:

He's like anyone else running extreme headlines in order to get viewership. That's what that industry is about these days.

Disney brings a level of exposure they would've never had prior to this. The trade off is it will be hard to incorporate wildly eccentric directorial types like Edgar Wright.

I say this hoping that Disney limits the meddling. They clearly didn't have any negative influence on CA:TWS. GOTG looks wild and something very different from the other MCU films.

I have read some comments on many sites the net, there's a lot of speculation going on as for who's going to direct this movie. Fans have been suggesting names like -

* Darren Aronofsky
* Alfonso Cuarón
* Matthew Vaughn
* Brad Bird.

Any suggestions ?

:doh:

None of those people would come into this project last minute with a script that's allegedly studio driven. Look for the new director to be a moderately known director at best, or possibly even Louis D'Esposito (Marvel producer who also directed a couple of the One-Shots).

And now you see why Hank didn't invent Ultron. They were genuinely letting Wright do what he wanted with Ant-Man. That was the only reason, now it's moot.

Whedon doesn't seem interested in including Pym. show me evidence to the contrary.

Wait for what happens to Star Wars. :oldrazz:

I don't think JJ would have taken that job without being pretty damn sure he was gonna have total control. They had to go out of their way to convince him to take the job. I'd assume that something like that was in the courting process.

To be fair, I don't like Faraci's article, he seems to write whatever will attract attention to his site.

Marvel Studios will be alright, they will just hire someone who can make movies according to their vision.

They still have likes of Russo Brothers and Whedon.

No

there's been a lot of noise about that but it's been speculation.

to my knowledged there's never been any official comment from Marvel folks saying anything like that.

we might've not had a standalone ant-man film but i fully believe if Wright had never been in the picture we would've had either Pym or Janet in Avengers, possibly both.

Janet was a contender to be in the movie. and I see her becoming an Avenger (eventually) as inevitable. but I don't think they would have used Pym; at least not in the way people here want. he probably would still have been an old guy contributing the science that made the Wasp possible. and, because he would be a biochemist, he'd have nothing to do with Ultron's creation (again). it really just made too much sense to have Iron Man or another engineer be behind Ultron. and there was no room for another mad scientist in the Avengers roster. Iron Man and Hulk are just too marketable.

What I don't like is Faraci saying that the new script is apparently disastrous. It boggles the mind that Feige couldn't do anything, to not trust Wright & Cornish and give the script to a newbie for rewrites, what the hell?

Let's hope the tensions settle

He's also saying Whedon is gone after Avengers 2, and with him posting that tweet in support of Wright, that's not exactly sounding surprising.

Louis D'Esposito was on set when Edgar Wright shot his est footage saying "Wright will bring all of the coolest camera angles and shots mixed in with a lot of laughs.” As Wright was shooting, he was cutting it together.

"We changed, frankly, some of the MCU [Marvel cinematic universe] to accommodate this version of Ant-Man. Knowing what we wanted to do with Edgar and with Ant-Man, going years and years back, helped to dictate what we did with the roster for Avengers that first time''

It doesn't mean they would have done an Ant-Man movie for phase 1. But maybe Hank and Janet could have been in the Avengers instead of Hawkeye and Widow, maybe even appearing in other phase 1 movies as SHIELD agents or something. Hank could have filled Hawkeye's and Selvig's role in the Avengers, for instance. It's sad that Wright was the reason this never happened and now Disney/Marvel booted him out of this. All for nothing.

Well, Disney is notorious for flexing their muscles and screwing things up over the past several years aren't they?

Farcini doesn't have the faintest idea what the script is like. He took everything he wrote about from the LR piece.

"Disastrous". Internet "journalism" at it's finest. :down

Whedon doesn't seem interested in including Pym. show me evidence to the contrary.

Pym has been off the table since Wright had his hands in the Ant-Man pie for the better part of a decade.I don't think Whedon was gonna butt heads over using Pym,when Marvel had already decreed the almighty Wright was the only one who could use him.

The older Pym was thing was Edgar's thing and Feige said Edgar's plans dictated the roster and some of the overall layout of the MCU. I don't think Pym also being a scientist would of had any impact on Banner and Stark as there isn't a limit to how many big brain characters you can feature on one team. Plenty of people want ultimate genius scientist Janet and Black Panther in the same line up as Banner and Stark. Professor Selvig didn't tread on anyones toes in the first Avengers film when he dropped some scientific input in the film.

It all comes down to how the characters are written, how they are used and the dynamic between them ultimately.

Disney interference certainly isn't out of the realm of possibilities. They're wanting to milk the **** out of SW with all these spin-offs and such, and apparently they want GOTG to be their next big franchise, with possible spin-offs of that as well. I doubt the map on Feige's wall includes the likes of "Star Lord: The Movie" or "Rocket and Groot: Space Buddies".
