Ant-Man Adam McKay to direct "Ant-Man"

called it. THR reports negotiations failed

THAT doesn't bode well for the project. Firing Wright wasn't make or break, but what made McKay think against taking the job? That is another interesting question. Wonder if Thurber or Fleischer will pull out as well?

I never expected McKay for this movie. is it gonna be a really funny film like his others? Now Im expecting a comedy unless he pulls a Russo Bros and makes some awesome genre film.

and you were not expecting a comedy when Edgar Wright was directing...?

Good decision from Adam, this gives him more respect.

Should they give it up already? Looks like nobody wants to direct this film.

Did they even give him a chance to read the script? If he read it.. then left.. then maybe the script has some problems? :csad:

or maybe he didn't feel he would be given enough time and didn't want to rush it.

What was the plan anyway? Did they set a date on when they're going to shoot the movie?

I think most (good) directors would be understandably weary of taking on this film. They would be, for all intents and purposes, ghost-writing Wright's film and vision.

Ant-Man has to be almost completely done pre-production if it's going to meet that July start date for filming. Therefore, there's very little time for a new director to really put his mark on anything. It's more a matter of putting what already exists in front of a camera and filming it.

they may just have to push the film back to summer or fall 2016.

That is likely the case. Like Ratner on X3. I think they should consider delaying this film either until 2016, or late 2015.

Yeah... because then they will just hire a Bret Ratner last minute and give the audience a rushed version of Ant Man filled with mistakes.

I really hope Disney is smart and doesn't pull a Fox. If it's not ready by 2015 it is not ready. Take your time. :word:

Touché!

Agreed. I'd rather that they push back the release date and ultimately get a good/complete movie, then try and rush out the movie and have it be substandard.

They should just cancel the movie but they've probably already sunk too much money into it.

Wonder why they are having so much trouble keeping directors for this movie.

I'm guessing the lack of of prep time, script issues, and high pressure to deliver a quality project isn't worth the money they are offering.

On McKays Twitter:

"And yes, met w/Marvel. Kirby & Lee r my Lennon Mccartney so it was awesome. But have other projects I'm committed to. Not sure it can work."

He was never 100% attached folks.

We really need to slow down a bit with the gossip and give this a chance before we totally give up on the film I think.

Well it really was Edgar Wrights passion project. It has to be a bit of a weird situation to jump in last second to take over another directors passion project? especially if you don't feel nearly as interested in the material as the director you're taking over from.

I don't think they will shelve it. Doing a Marvel film is usually good for your career as a director and gets you some other big gigs afterwards.

I wonder how long before we get word on who being offered the position next.

We'll know for sure how bad the script is if every director passes on this.

McKay said he just doesn't have time in his schedule to do it, though that could easily be his excuse to get away from something he doesn't want to do that's already this far in.

Could be or could not be. So what?

The original article did say McKay was busy and might not be able to do it if asked . .

This shows that we shouldn't just believe any rumor that we hear, no matter how many trades report it .
