Sci-Fi Edge of Tomorrow - Part 1

I personally thought Knight and Day was garbage. But it is a breezy movie that you wont feel angry about watching

If you like Tom Cruise and action movies then you will like Knight and Day, its not amazing, but an easy and entertaining watch.

An alternate ending. Sounds like they made the right decision.

And it sounds like Cruise was the one who pushed for more comedic elements. Why the guy hasn't done a full blown comedy yet is beyond me.

He has. Tropic Thunder. And he was amazing in it.

But yeah, this was a really good movie. I really enjoyed it. A combination of Groundhogs Day and Aliens, and it meshes surprisingly well. It's got something for everyone. For the people who hate Tom Cruise you get to see him get killed multiple times, for the people who like him, you get some classic Cruise action.

Trade hotshot Mike Fleming seems to think there will be sequel talk for Edge of Tomorrow, but I doubt a follow-up will materialize. 1) the film hasn't broke even worldwide, 2) where would the characters go story-wise?, 3) Legendary didn't have a stake in this film, and 4) it doesn't need a sequel.

There's absolutely no point in a sequel. Unless you want to see Tom Cruise hooking up with Emily Blunt a hundred times. :o

That's just it. The story is finished and the characters have closure. There's no potential thread a sequel could latch on and build upon.

A prequel showing Rita's time loop would be a fun watch.

A natural progression to the world would be the only way to go. So it would be like an entirely different film as there would be no time loop. Basically another chance for the marketers to f it all up again.

Well, the scientist guy did say in the movie there could thousands of meteorites floating in space with Mimics inside of the them. Just like the one that landed on Earth. I am sure an Omega being killed on Earth would make the other mimics interested in finding out how as well.

So they COULD do a sequel if they really wanted to.

They could do a Back to the Future 2 and have someone else who had the power the same day as Cage and we see the movie from that POV with Cage running around in the background.

If they want to do a sequel they can do a sequel, that's true for almost every film ever created. But my impresion what that the story was finished. And the aliens would not even have contact with the Omega on Earth. They worked independently.

Finally caught this Tuesday and despite never quite getting the big deal about Cruise (sure, he COMMITS to a part... So do many actors.) I really enjoyed the film and it's execution, the temporal mechanics of the finale aside (What did exactly happen?). Still a fun, thoroughly engaging ride with utterly fantastic production values that gets a lot of mileage out of it's premise. I will say this, as someone allergic to hype and having not seen her on the big screen before, I don't get the fuss about Emily Blunt in the least. Was she good in this role? Damned fine. She's not some coasting on her looks, can barely seem believable delivering her lines type like Jessica Alba or Katie Holmes for sure. But... She didn't blow me away as some gigantic, charismatic talent either. Rita was mostly a bare bones type of character anyway so the chances for showing more than a woman of intense focus trying to end the war wasn't there. Still, the way she's been built up I thought Blunt would be SO much more. She was good though.

I would like that too. Unfortunately, given the film's disappointing domestic profits, I doubt the studio would fund a prequel that doesn't have Tom Cruise.

And the point of that would be?

I assume with the ending by cage blowing up the globe it sent him back 2 days to live normally once more and him being sent to battle never happened but opened it up for the humans to win easier since the globe didnt exist?

The ending is pretty simple i think. Cage absorbed the Omega's blood so took on it's power, just like he did with the Alpha.

Cage wakes up back at the beginning the moment the Omega dies.

But itf thats the case then how did he avoid being sent to battle and they even showed the first time he meets emily blunt when she stands up and he smirks? Did him getting arrested and sent to the platoon and the beach invasion never happen or was this a day or 2 before the beach invasion? Did his body get reincarnated somehow?

Because he still retains all the knowledge and growth of character throughout the movie. So presumably the talk with the General goes very differently.

Plus the war is already over anyway in this new timeline. I imagine they still land on Normandy but obviously find no resistance.

Would Tom Cruise' character live on this old age for 50 or 60 years, die of old age, and then be re-born right before the battle of Normandy?

weird Blu Ray cover.

I'll still be picking this up though

Yeah, I had read somewhere that on OnDemand services they're calling the movie "Live. Die. Repeat." trying to re-introduce it as a different movie hoping it will spark more interest.

Weird marketing move.

I haven't seen this yet and plan on picking it up on Blu-Ray but then title change is really silly. Even on iTunes it's called "Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow". WHY WB?
