I have read time and time again that this guy has a less-than-satisfying track record when it comes to scoops, but doing a bit of research has convinced me that he isn't particularly terrible, or at least not to the extent that you guys seem to be proposing.

There are plenty of things he has gotten correct in the past... So tell me, why the hate?

I don't hate him. I don't really pay attention to him. Though if I had to guess, it would be how ridiculous his "scoops" are. If you are going to get something wrong, it would be nice if it was at least plausible.

These days his track record is pretty good; it's not flawless, but he doesn't deserve the 'Eh Maybe' name anymore.

I think what many dislike about him is the fact he has a really inflated ego and can be relatively hostile to others over Twitter and such. Example, the other day when Collider posted the scoop on the actresses testing for Domino, he called them and Steven Weintraub, who posted the scoop, out as being wrong in a series of tweets, only for it to turn out they weren't. He did then apologise, but he has a habit of that sort of behaviour. I don't think he's a bad dude, just a bit hot headed. He's definitely far better than a number of other movie scoop folks out there, and miles ahead of people like Faraci, and I think he's definitely improved since his move to the Wrap

I don't hate him, but I'd imagine the inflated ego played a part. Especially with how often he was wrong in the past. That said, his scoops seem much more reliable now that he's working for a legit outlet. I guess they force him to, ya know, verify stuff before publishing.

i think the reason a lot of people don't care for el maybe is because when he's right it's often something anyone with a general wikipedia based knowledge of these properties could have guessed correctly but when he's wrong he presents his "scoops" as even more credible and from parties directly involved in the production despite knowing himself that there is nothing to substantiate it. now sure, he gets some good stuff, but the combination of the two scenarios i mention again and again over time destroy his credibility.

Oh hush, El Mayimbe, we all know it's you.

I'm still waiting for Iron Man to answer that distress signal from Star Lord.

Because he ****ing sucks?

Don't forget that he tried to get users here banned due to the negative vitriol he accumulated on the Hype.

It's weird that there is a sizable amount of online journalists/bloggers/whatever who have built their reputation around being arrogant and condescending to others. It's their thing. Why would you want that to be your thing? Your defining trait that you're known for. That sounds lonely.

I've met El Mayimbe in person, and he's a pretty nice, sociable cordial person. I simply wish he wouldn't act like such a condescending person with his online persona. Then again, I guess it works with him because he does have a sizable loyal following.

So no hate for Mayimbe. However, I don't like the penchant for breaking scoops and acting like you have the inside track only for many of these scoops not to pan out. Case in point. Iron Fist was supposed to be in Luke Cage according to him:

http://screencrush.com/luke-cage-iron-fist-finn-jones-appearance/

Yes he is. Episode 13. That’s why it was announced, or else it would have leaked … They shot him last week.

Here's a genuine fact: Finn Jones and Luke Cage didn't even meet in person for the first time until New York Comic-Con or shortly before.

I think he also lost a lot of points here by trolling the forums and dangling the scoop carrot in front of everyone only for the big reveal to be "Join my mailing list to find out!" I forget what it was about, but I think he was talking about World War Hulk and Planet Hulk in Phase 2 or some such. Hulk would get shot into space at the end of Avengers 2, which he didn't.

He's not had kind words for SHH posters or the forums probably because many people here don't take his word as gospel. And again, it's not an endearing quality.

I think most of the experienced posters here have put in many years and time in the hype. So nowadays I think more people know when to discern from the truth or not.

It just goes to show. Remember all these so-called insiders and scoopers we have online who know exactly who Jena Malone is playing in Batman v Superman? At the end of the day, she was nothing more than a lab scientist who Lois goes to for information. That's it. And NO one accurately reported that. Not a single person accurately reported her character. First Scoot McNairy is Nightwing. Oh wait, then he's the Flash. Now he's Jimmy Olsen. None of these insider scoops were right.

Before Iron Fist finally got confirmed, I was reading reports from multiple fly-by-night geek websites who had their own "sources" saying Iron Fist was not coming along and they were going to replace it with Shang-Chi or just make an Iron Fist Netflix movie. Again, all that was garbage.

And that's why I can't buy into scoops anymore. Usually, over half of them turn out to be absolute trash.

^Interesting....

So when he DOES get scoops correct, how do you respond? What do you think about it? Lucky guess based on very general information that anybody could hypothesize?

Basically, yes.

I also read yesterday that Gonzalez apparently got a whole slew of Age of Ultron tumors correct, particularly in regards to the first act. I wouldn't exactly say much of that was guessing material

What's that saying about broken clocks?

The main problem with him is his attitude. He would get a lot of scoops wrong and not come clean about them. For example, he made a huge spectacle on year about making a huge Super Bowl announcement. He did it in video form and everything. He said he had details on Avengers 2 ending with Hulk being sent into space and him getting his own Planet Hulk movie. He then said Avengers 3 would be World War Hulk. Obviously, none of those things happened but now he's trying to take credit for them using Planet Hulk elements in Thor Ragnarok. It's not even close to his original scoop. I've seen anonymous people release spoilers at a more credible rate than someone who touts himself as a "journalist". I'm not going to sit here and say he might not get some legitimate scoops but they are very few and far between.

I actually didn't know that, lol. Well I'd say that's a reason. :funny:

Yeah he contacted the owners of the site to ban users who were talking bad about him some time before BvS came out. :funny:

What's your point? You are asking a question why he gets hate. I don't hate the guy, but I'm giving you examples of why he has critics and why some people here aren't his biggest fan.

I'm not saying he never gets stuff right. I'm sure he gets some stuff right. However, I'm just saying why he gets criticized and how he has slammed the Hype Forums and the posters here.

Godzillasaurus, I'm not understanding what your issue is here. Do you know Gonzalez? Are you a big fan or something. You ask a question, people give you some valid answers, and then you are like "but he gets a bunch of rumors correct. Surely he can't be guessing all of these?"

I'm trying to tell you the issues some might have with him. Another poster here shared information with you that he tried to get some Hype posters banned here. Is it so strange to understand why that might put some people off.

I'm just trying to get to know more about him, because I've heard terrible things about even his scoops here, as some users above have pointed-out. That's why I keep bringing-up accuracy.

I'm sorry if I sound ignorant, that was not my intention. I'm just curious

I'm sure he has some legit sources and gets stuff right, but he also gets things wrong about a significant portion of the time. At least from what I've seen.

Again, I've met him, and he was cool in person. I think it's just the way he acts online that can put some people off and the way he acts about rumors.

I sent Latino Review a "scoop" of a photoshopped "leaked" Batsuit photo from BvS (I pranked them during the Dark Knight filming with a photoshopped vehicle as the Joker's car). He asked Zack Snyder directly and debunked it, then posted my email address on his twitter and asked his followers to send me hate mail. It didn't work.
