^^ True. Basically, I'm just saying that there are better RPG's out there, IMO. Knights Of The Old Republic was better than Mass Effect, IMO.

Than the first Mass Effect? I'd agree, but ME2 was such a leap forward on nearly every front over its predecessor that its really the culmination of everything Bioware's been doing starting from KoTOR on in terms of cinematic but interactive and mature storytelling within video games. I think that's what a lot of players were connecting with last year.

To me KOTOR was basically a dumbed down Baldurs Gate. This wouldn't be so much of a problem if it benefited the game, but it doesn't, it's worse, by a mile. The interface was terrible and the combat was downright clunky. Like with Halo, it's similar to saying it's the best bike because it has stabilizers. Even at that, unlike Halo, Bioware didn't even built a good set of stabilizers.

I think Mass Effect has the same problem as Oblivion, characters don't emote well, I don't care about any of them. Having a conversion is like watching paint dry. One of the things about Morrowind'srudiementary text and blocky characters rather than extensive facial animtions and voice, was that the player filled it in themselfs like reading a book, this is more involving and using the players own input to fill in the gap, something that's going the way of the dinosaurs as games try there darnest to be a Hollywood fudge.

I know, but when I played Mass Effect 2, it felt like another space invovled game (that's not a bad thing at all) and, somewhat, just filler. The ending was great though. I don't know about other people, but for 2010, I thought red Dead Redmeption was a leap foward in storytelling. One of the biggest twists i've seen in a while in a video game.

I don't know if it was really a twist with a name like RED DEAD REDEMPTION :cwink: but don't get me wrong I really did like that game. I don't know if it was a leap forward in and of itself, it was just extremely well told (which automatically makes it better than 90% of the other video games out there) but it wasn't really interactive in the way Mass Effect's was and that's what I was referring to. I definitely think it deserves a lot of the praise it gets but Mass Effect and Red Dead's narratives are so different its practically impossible to compare the two other than their technical aspects. It would be like debating whether Wrath of Khan or Unforgiven was a better movie which is what both games remind me of when they're really some of the best stuff their respective genres have to offer.

But biggest twist of last year? Deadly Premonition, man. :awesome:

I guess it's all personal preference, lol.

Except for Deadly Premonition :cmad:

Here's my opinion:

- I felt that Mass Effect 2 was the best game of last year. Red Dead is second.
- Mass effect 1 one a good game lifted by great story telling.
- Mass Effect 2 was a great game with great story telling.

- I still love Knights of the Old Republic over every other RPG. Knights of the Old Republic arguably not only has the greatest twist in the history of video games, but the greatest payoff too. When I found out [BLACKOUT]that I was Darth Revan,[/BLACKOUT] that was a moment where, for the first time in my video gaming in experience, I put down the controller nicely and was truly shocked, but in an incredibly awesome way.

Also, the way the game built up being a jedi was awesome too. I really liked that you didn't start as a jedi. It made finally becoming a jedi that much more rewarding.

I agree that was one of the biggest revelations in gaming. Altho and i hate to admit this, i spoiled myself on that revelation. I had the strat guide and like an idiot i peered ahead and ruined it. Its been my greatest gaming regret.

No. :csad:

I remember that strategy guide. How could you read it? It literally had a thousand spoiler warnings before you could read it. :csad:

It's basically the same as Baldurs Gate. The player finds out he is Bhaalspawn, fights another Bhaalspawn who thinks he is teh proper Bhaalspawn. The end.

I spoiled myself, too. Read Revan's article on the Star Wars wikia site. Was still awesome when I saw it in the game though. I even kept the save right before then so I could go back to it in the future.

I felt more floored by the Revan twist, it just felt more personal and direct. I mean YOU were essentially the big bad responsible for the deaths of millions and the very enemy you were fighting against. YOU were the Emperor to Malak's Vader. It was just a really holy **** moment that turned a lot of Star Wars conventions on its head.

Finding out you were the offspring of the Lord of Murder in Baldur's Gate was big but it wasn't so earth shattering. I think the KoTOR reveal does more to mess with the player's head than being a Bhaalspawn.

What's this? Uninspired Cup complaining against the majority again? Right. And here I was hoping there was some news on the game. :o :p

KOTOR was a great game.
ME 1 was a great game.

I'd almost put ME1 above KOTOR, if only because it is takes place in an original universe. But I've enjoyed all of Bioware's games that I've played. Even Jade Empire.

Speaking of Obsidian, I wonder if they will do a spinoff of this once it out like they did with Vegas. I enjoyed that much more and it would be interesting to see there take on Elder scrolls.

I'm personally kind of hoping that they'll take the reigns on the Fallout series, but anything's possible at this point I suppose.
