Yes, LGBT people are going to boil and eat your children. Yes I've heard all that silliness before and I continue to hear that silliness even from people reasonable about everything else.

I don't care who says it and why they say it, it's wrong and silly and dangerous and wrong.
I am curious if they spread out those 4 minutes or did the simply want to cut Gaston. Or did they want to cut some stuff like when Chip wants to know what was there that wasn't there before. Does that count as sexual innuendo?

Who knows what little thing they count as sexual innuendo?

I have no doubt that Disney is testing the waters for a full on LGBT protagonist.

It is sad that there is a significant financial cost, though.

Sure. It would be extremely risky and they probably shouldn't spend too much on such a film.

the LeFou moments, including the "moment" at the end, got chuckles from my audience.

And there were kids with their parents and grandparents. Obviously, I can't speak for everyone's reactions, but there certainly weren't any loud boos, gnashing of teeth, or vocal protests. We talked to someone after the show who was with his young kids and they all loved it and cried, too.

and I don't exactly live in a liberal part of the country, if you know what I mean. ;)

in reality, I don't think it's that big of a deal, even from amongst us more conservative folk, aside from vocal trolls on the net.

it's a shame when certain countries feel the need to restrict content. but it makes you appreciate the USA even more.

I still haven't seen the film but I am so happy that it now has the March opening weekend record. It certainly can't be worse than the last movie that claimed the record.

I am thinking of the biggest reactions in the theater. Outside of the big applause at the end of the film the biggest reactions, it was probably between the snowball scene, Gaston/LeFou "hug", when Belle rides off back to the castle, when Belle ask about the beard, and when Belle nearly killed Lumiere. :funny:

There was a lot of laughing throughout and the little kids were loud. There was a little girl sat next to me, and she wouldn't stop talking no matter what her mother said. :funny:

I just saw that. Good that it beat BvS. It was a better movie, too. :o

It doesn't have it yet. Don't want to count the chickens and all. But it looks like it should by the end of the weekend.

There is no counting chickens dear, Disney are under estimating that Sunday number. It's probably going to hit 175 when all is said and done. There is a 0% chance that it has a worse Saturday to Sunday drop than predicted.

Disney’s Beauty And The Beast charmed its way into the international box office this weekend with a $180M start. Combined with the equally monstrous domestic opening, that puts the global tally for the live-action update of 1991’s animated classic at a magnifique $350M worldwide. The Bill Condon-directed film is now the No. 2 March debut of all time both globally and internationally.

heh. well my theater has better behaved kids then. :o

but I'd say there were more teens, young adults, and older folk than little kids at my showing.

Has Disney put out numbers? I thought all the numbers so far were from other sources. At least on Deadline.

Well either way, the overseas number exploded over the weekend:

Refresh for latest…: Disney’s Beauty And The Beast charmed its way into the international box office this weekend with a wild $180M start. Combined with the equally monstrous domestic opening, that puts the global tally for the live-action update of 1991’s animated classic at a magnifique $350M worldwide. The Bill Condon-directed film is now the No. 2 March debut of all time both globally and internationally, the latter falls behind only Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

We had a sense yesterday that BATB was headed across $300M global and indeed it sprang past pre-weekend estimates on all fronts. Looking at the same suite of markets and at today’s rates, the opening frame is running 35% ahead of The Jungle Book, 96% ahead of Alice In Wonderland, 100% ahead of Maleficent and 148% ahead of Cinderella.

The Emma Watson/Dan Stevens-starrer was No. 1 in virtually all debuts — it’s playing in 44 material markets this weekend. A dazzling $22.8M in the UK gave BATB the highest grossing 3-day opening weekend ever for a PG title; and China opened to $44.8M for the biggest-ever Disney Live Action launch weekend (note that Disney Live Action refers to non-Lucasfilm/Marvel releases).

In other highlights, this is the top March opening ever in several territories, including the UK, Germany and Mexico. BATB also had the No. 1 bow of 2017 in those markets as well as Italy, Sweden and Brazil, among others. The film further surpassed the lifetimes of Maleficent and Alice In Wonderland in China, Korea and India.

In IMAX plays, BATB waltzed to a record-setting $21M on 1,026 screens worldwide. In 55 international markets, the gross was $8.5M on 649. The movie, which features an expanded aspect ratio that is exclusive to IMAX, is the 300th DMR (digital media remastering) title in the format’s history and pushes IMAX past the $6B total global box office mark.

BATB is the No. 1 global bow ever for a PG-rated film in IMAX, topping Disney’s own Jungle Book ($20M) from last year. It is the No. 2 overseas launch for a PG movie after TJB‘s $9.7M.

A billion is definitely on the table now. Also love that IMAX continues to increase its presence.

I also liked how Belle was more than a mere bookworm. She was actually an inventor/tinkerer herself.

What time did you go? I went early in the morning. My theater had a lot of little kids including babies with their mothers, teen girls with their mothers, along with a special needs group who took up a big chunk of the theater.

I don't remember the last time I went to see a movie and the audience was so obviously, overwhelmingly female.

Yes Disney's official estimate is 170mil.
That means Watson also beat her old total with Deathly Hallows Part 2. :woot:

Something really special about this, the tickets apparently skewed heavily 2d. 60%. Which means it brought out a lot of people who don't usually go to the movies.
