Reaction to films like this really concern me for society. Where people could just say they didn't like it and move on, there seems to be a desire to steer the narrative that because it underwhelms PhyllisDiller1234, everyone needs to feel underwhelmed. Could be the internet/ anonymous thing, could just be people are becoming wonderless, sceptical, joyless trolls whose only enjoyment is crushing optimism.

I assume Life will flop or disappoint a lot

I am not even watching that. Though if this month wasn't so crowded I think I would.

Next month, is pretty quiet, It would just be Fate and Vol. 2 for me. Then Pirates and Covenant in May.

So it's okay to go on and on about why someone likes it but those who didn't can't share their opinion? Okay...

I just got out and feel very "meh" about it. My mom thought it was decent and my brother shares my views.

Pros:
The set design and costumes was amazing

Gaston and Lefou were funny

The servants were excellent I felt bad for them at the end.

Be our Guest is every bit as exciting here as it is in the animated film

Cons:

Emma Watson: Been said a million times but Emma Watson's Belle truly lacks passion and life. She's bland, boring, and going through the motions. Her voice was definitely altered.

The Musical Numbers: Many of them (with the exception of Be our Guest) lacked the high spirited energy of the animated film perhaps because the cast couldn't handle them.

The Beast: His character design is a let down. His temper is not so over the top causing moments that were scary, exciting and thrilling in the animated film to just be boring here. They were afraid to truly let him be a beast tamed by love.

Minor nitpicks would be that I wish the rose had been given its enchanted glow, they'd kept the original narrator, and that the transformation scene was exactly like the animated movie.

Overall as someone who watches the animated film more than a few times a year I'll just stick with that.

Yep this is going this be the Jurassic World of 2017. The fangirls and fanboys will be split on it, the reviews are decent instead of very good and it's going to be an unbelievable smash hit that audiences like more than both of those groups.
There difference here is the nature of the fans. The vast majority of fans here, are quite happy. I thought this would remind me of Jurassic World, but this is more like TFA and even Rogue One imo.

100% this. I left the theatre thinking...what a waste of time, for everyone involved. I was told by an industry friend of mine Disney is remaking these movies in live-action because they're losing the rights and have to hold on to them somehow, but man, at the very least, make a film that isn't so by the numbers and basic.

I think it's safe to expect Aladdin and The Lion King will be suffering the same bland, generic fate.

How in the hell is Disney losing the rights to their own movies? I could understand if it was a fledgling company like New Line or MGM but not a powerhouse like Disney.

Same question here. 1991 was only 26 years ago. Disney can't possibly be losing the rights to that version already.

If they'd said it was because they know kids aren't interested in 2D animated movies any more and want to make sure they see their version of the story, that's more believable.

I wouldn't say it's safe to expect that at all as I found Disneys Cinderella(2015) and Jungle Book (2016) to be very well made.

I don't even understand that losing the rights nonsense.

I keep hearing that it brings nothing new to the table. That's just not true in any objective sense. There are tonal changes, changes to characters, story changes, new songs and subplots, they've fleshed out existing elements in many respects...

Of course they are losing the rights to their original property less then 3 decades after it came out... :lmao:

It is a funny comment. If you look at Belle and her father, the relationship is quite different. Members of the town are openly hostile to Belle. Even Gaston's ways is explained a bit.

I respect your opinion quite a bit Crowe. But not a million fold. :oldrazz:

I would go so far as to argue that other than Cogsworth and Lumiere, almost every major character has changed significantly in some regard. There are also key changes to iconic moments.

I love ending so much. Gives me chills.
And for me Ending 2017 absolutely better. And much longer. More emotional, much more beautiful. Belle and Adam in dance, and this Magnificent CHOIR. Also we see all characters happy, every have couple, every with smile and piece. There is something inspiring and sublime. It's seems like Nirvana. It's perfect.

Definitely movie have some episodes which better than in original. And divine ending is one of them.

This movie...this movie...it was so great, i loved every minute of it.(even though i sadly wasnt able to watch the english original, had to watch the german dubbed version here...but disney does a good job in getting the german voices right)

Everything about this movie was so good, i didnt thought it would be on the same eye level as the "original"...but it is.
The longer run time gave it enough time to flesh out some things here and there which helped quite well.
Some of the scenes worked better in the animated version, but some of the new scenes make up for that.

I always liked the look of the beast, and even more after watching the movie.
I liked that they made him a bit more human and all that, it helped sell the love story with belle.

The Enchantress is still a A-Hole imo, even though they got a bit deeper into the why of what she did.:woot:

I hoped that the movie would be good, i feared that it could be bad...but i was blown away from how fantastic it was in the end.

I for myself am pretty happy with how the movie turned out.

I knew Disney shouldn't have signed that contract with themselves that they'd lose the rights to their adaptation of a public domain story after 26 years. They were much smarter with Cinderella though, signing it for 65 years. Much more foresight.

Um. Create a thread about only positive reactions for this movie, then?

I have concern for society when people can't handle other people's opinions about a simple movie. If you absolutely loved the movie, don't let anyone stop you from doing so. What's the point of a message board when only a certain type of opinion is expressed (or allowed to be expressed), though?

Ok. It was technically well made and cute and all, but it kind of lacked the heart and charm of the original and felt kind of like a hollow recreation. Scenes like Be Our Guest despite trying really hard with this big elaborate CGI fest fell kind of flat and lacked energy and so did Gaston's song. I wasn't crazy about Emma Watson or Luke Evans. Dan Stevens and the servants were good but Beast's CGI was kinda ****** and the servant designs were a little creepy.

So Disney does a BatB remake out of desperation and it opens to a 170M DOM weekend. Fox does a FF remake out of desperation and it makes less than that over its entire run WW.

Desperate has a lot of different meanings in the English language I guess.....

Also, it's kind of hilarious how bent out of shape some people got about LeFou being gay, when it's barely there in the movie.

exactly.

based on what I heard and read, I was actually expecting more of a scene-by-scene, line-by-line adaptation.

but I didn't find that to be the case at all.

and I was pleasantly surprised by the new additions, both the songs and story elements.

Gasp!!!! The nerve of those subversive filmmakers at Disney. How did that boycott work out?
