Yep.

One thing that (isnt that big) that I wish they had remedied was...how did Maurice get back to the village while the horse stayed at the kingdom with Belle? Did he just walk all the way back?

It's implied the villagers apart from the girls don't really like Gaston.

I liked that it's showed the castle is frozen in time somewhat hence the snow. I do wonder why it didn't snow when the mob went to the castle.

thanks. that's what it looked like. I like how the villagers didn't all just slavishly worship Gaston ( aside from the bimbettes ). but they did give him more respect than Maurice and Belle.

it also was a nice touch to explain the relationship between the villagers and the castle and why they were unaware of it or its inhabitants for all that time. In the original film, it was kind of a plot hole that no one in the village knew about the giant ******* castle in the woods.......lol.

The scene where Jean Potts is trying to remember what he's lost which nicely ties together when he's reunited with Mrs Potts and Chip at the end, in hindsight,
the Enchantress' curse affecting the villagers as well makes the curse more tragic.

I saw it and will be honest... I didn't like it.

It's not bad, but it is pretty bland and mediocre. It feels like a theme park ride version of the original movie as opposed to a new take on the material. It has a lifeless, museum quality to it in that sense. Also, while I didn't mind the autotuned singing (though it ain't a patch on the original) Emma Watson is quite bad in this. I respect her, love her as a person, think she's a wonderful role model for young girls, so in that sense I'm happy she's in this movie, because at the end of the day it is more corporate product than film.

But for whatever reason, she played Belle as flat and with a blank look on her face for most of the run time. Maybe it was working off so many CG things that weren't there? I do not know, but it just made the movie feel even more monotone instead of joyous and emotional like the original. With that said, I am sure children will love it and families will have a good time. But I doubt folks will be watching it in 25 years like the original.

oh, so that was him?? I couldn't remember which one he was. I thought he was the baker......lol.

that's a nice touch to tie it all together.

and the story addition that I appreciated the most was at the end when

the servants die and become objects. THAT scene really hit me and the tears were definitely flowing then. :csad:

The scene where Cogsworth was reunited with his wife and him being not too pleased about it was funny.

I love hearing reviews from the Flick Pick (usually his language is crude, but for this it's actually descent)

oh, and I will say the audience at my showing was fairly packed ( as crowded as I've seen it in quite some time ). a good mixture of ages, from little children to older folks.

there was also applause at the end!!

That scene was moving even though you know it's going to have a happy ending.

I was confused when I read this. Because I thought it was about me, but then that means you called me the big D man and I don't know how to feel about that. :o

Well if it was for me, thanks Hunter. :woot:

Embrace your inner big D man-ness! :funny:

 I hope to get to see it but the way this month is shaping up I get the feeling it might be BR for me. :(

P.S. I actually did like the change of LeFou. I thought Josh Gad and Luke Evans were hilarious and had much more of a spark than of the human characters (Dan Stevens, even in questionable CG, is quite good on the animated side). The flap-up about LeFou being gay is a bit silly since it's a blink and you'll miss it development. But it was nice to show him have a bit of his own personality.

With that said, the ending falls flat, because again, the central love story just did not work for me. The changes to Belle and Beast's backstories are nice and more politically forward-thinking. But still, if I did not buy the romance and just felt like it was going through the motions, it is kind of moot.

LeFou's changes as he slowly becomes less and less enamoured by Gaston as the film goes on worked for me and made him more likeable.

yeah, you could tell that deep down he wasn't a terrible person like Gaston.

he was just an enabler who went along with Gaston because he was in love with him and wanted to be like Gaston.

but you could tell by the end he was starting to realize what kind of "monster" he helped enable all this time. He even basically said that in the Mob song.

I also liked how the Beast

also shared Belle's love of books and reading and literature. It was a nice way for them to bond. Indeed, I liked the extra time they spent on showing the 2 of them bonding.

I liked his disdain for Romeo and Juliet!

But he liked the romance in King Arthur. :o

The legend of King Arthur isn't even romantic considering there's adultery and an unhappy ending which is odd why he liked it in the first place.

when you're stuck as a man-beast for who-knows-how-many-years, you develop questionable and even kinky tastes. :o :oldrazz:

or maybe he was reading the sanitized Disney version. :o

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who cried at that part. That damn music, man...

I liked that moment. It was one of the few changes to their backstories that improved the relationship. The stuff about Belle's mother and trying to escape, or Beast's father, felt pretty arbitrary. But that was a nice inclusion. As was the fact that they both could relate on feeling like outsiders and being considered aloof.

yeah, I liked the outsiders angle. and even the parents stuff I didn't mind.

all of it I felt gave them more stuff to bond over.

it gave both characters more of a backstory than they had in the original. especially the part about Beast's mom and dad, and how that actually shaped the Prince's cruel demeanor, and how the servants factored into it as well.

So Malaysia's Censorship Board is crazy:

http://deadline.com/2017/03/malaysi...utes-of-beauty-and-the-beast-cuts-1202046562/

Disney’s Beauty And The Beast is enjoying a fantastic run in its offshore and domestic debut this weekend with full numbers to come later today. As reported last week, the film is not screening in Malaysia after the local censor approved it with what was characterized as “a minor cut involving a gay moment.” Disney then postponed the release, saying the film “has not been and will not be cut for Malaysia.”

In an interview with the New Sunday Times that was posted today, Malaysia censorship board Chairman Abdul Halim now says the organization had proposed four minutes and 38 seconds’ worth of cuts. That appears to contradict what he earlier told the AP. Today, he says what the board found questionable were “three parts,” the first “during the performance of a song where a male character (LeFou) hugs the other (Gaston) from behind. Secondly is the suggestive song lyrics with sexual innuendos and the third is a scene that takes place at the end of the movie,” Halim told the newspaper.

Halim suggests that the film might have passed with “a potentially minor cut.” But, he says, “people became curious” following the situation in Russia where the film was given a 16+ rating and “we had to protect ourselves.”

Sex between men is illegal in Malaysia. On screen, gay characters are allowed to be depicted, but only if they show repentance or are portrayed in a negative light. “Malaysia does not recognize the LGBT ideology,” Halim says in the NST interview. “So we have to be extra cautious in our work. We have our responsibilities to the country, the people and our constitution. If we let these scenes pass, people will wonder if Malaysia recognizes LGBT.”

The submission process is ongoing and Halim says the Film Appeals Committee, a separate body to the censorship board, is scheduled to meet on Tuesday to screen the film. It has the power to reverse the board’s decision.

Halim would not comment on whether the board is revising its 2010 guidelines under which it currently operates. Those guidelines, he said, cover “ideology and politics; religion, national security and peace; as well as social norms. Movies with counter-culture elements like the scenes in Beauty And The Beast went against social norms.”

Halim did allow there has been upset locally that the film hasn’t been released which he calls “a natural knee-jerk reaction because they were looking forward to the movie. Their children wanted to watch it with their parents. But later on if they get to see it, they will get to know the real story and why we did what we did. On our part, we have a job to do and we can’t make mistakes. If there is public outcry when the movie is already released, we will have to bear the consequences.”

Yes, LGBT people are going to boil and eat your children. Yes I've heard all that silliness before and I continue to hear that silliness even from people reasonable about everything else.

I don't care who says it and why they say it, it's wrong and silly and dangerous and wrong.
